For me as a penhold player, Xu Xin gives me hope to never give up and motivates me to train hard and get good at the techniques.

I watched a video about an interview with a former great champion, Guo Yue Hua. Guo said that RPB instead of push block transforms a penholder to more like a shakehand player. Guo also said that winning is dependant upon the individual player, not style. All techniques have pros and cons. Of course, Guo Yue Hua is a looping penholder.
XX backhand is getting better and better, I don't think Pen hold backhand is inferior to shake hand

My favorite male penholders are Guo Yue Hua, Jiang Jia Liang, and Ma Lin. As for a female, the one and only one, Cao Yan Hua. Coincidentally, Xu Xin came out of Cao's TT Institution in Shanghai, China. But Xu's accomplishments in TT is nowhere near his mentor.

True! But Fan is going take down the Dragon. I hope my comment won't jinx Fan Zhendong. Fan is by far the best player right now. Bar no injuries and ITTF changes rules, Fan Zhendong is going to win the next few important tournaments, including the upcoming Olympic Gold and the 2021 WTTC Single title.

@@benthekeeshond545 Indeed, Fan is right now the best player in the world. But I still bet on Ma Long to take the Olympic if he can recovery from injuries, since before the world championships this year people did not expect him to win either. The dragon has a big heart, and I believe in that :)

The Dragon has a big heart..... I have to agree with you. 2017 WTTC, Fan was the equal of Ma Long and the difference was the last point of the match. FanZhendong could have won that world championship title. Not that Fan is not a mentally strong player but the Dragon does have a big heart. He shows up and plays his best in the most prestigious tournaments and therefore triumphed over Fan Zhendong by a whisker.
Anyway, that was the past and I hope Fan Zhendong can hold his position as the premier TT player for the next 3 years.
@@benthekeeshond545 Yes I agree. The 2017 world championship final is so far the best match I have ever watched. Personally I hope Ma Long to win the Olympic again because that may be his last match, while Fan Zhendong is still younger. But indeed, physically Fan has a bigger chance.

though As a real fan of XuXin, I am deeply happy that Ma long recovers his health and won this game.Whenever I watch these 2 guys matches,I feel that I am in another planet with a very higher level of Table Tennis from the Earth!
In favor of both player, I really enjoyed this match while tasting yummy cookies and dont mind game scores. I dont doubt ML and XX is already world best, so doesnt matter who win or lose. Just thank them their incredible movement and technic.
Xu xin is so tired , he needs to play single, double and mixed double in this tournament, ma long only has to play mens single.

Ma Long and Xu Xin brought out the best from each other in this match. That game 2 was simply an amazing display of technique and will from both sides. Much respect to both players, especially to Ma Long who appeared to be still suffering from pain in his knees but gave everything he had to beat Xu Xin. Wow!

Ma Long knows XX weakness very well and XX's play style is advantage for Ma Long. He should modify new style only for Ma Long and FZD to reduce his weaknesses then, play with original style for other player.

ZweMin Thu yeah. Against the average field xu xin is better, but ma plays strategically better than anyone else against xu. They have to play those two in the Olympics regardless of what everyone’s rank is
Man what realy hard is, each of them knows exactly the playstyle of each other and what makes Ma long different is that he adjust he's game during matches! GOAT!
@@xxfernandez8187 Ma Long is very well rounded with no obvious weakness. Xu Xin's BH is still a clear weakness. Ma Long also knew very well that Xu Xin was already tired after the double's games. ML got Xu Xin worn out by getting him running around.
But you know what?? Xu Xin is once again crowned as a hero in China as he took down Harimoto to ensure the Grand Final title belongs to his country. He's happy as long as the final is fought between Chinese.
Fantastic for from Ma Long. The way he deals with Xu Xin's bullet-speed forehand bombs is incredible.

How can anyone pick a favorite between ANY of the top 5 players?! Each is a magnificent athlete and each has his unique and special style that is incredible to watch!
Personally, I'm soo grateful that we can relive those moments of brilliance via recordings; no matter who is performing them! We should just enjoy the show/s and be happy that we can. I would love to see some of the old great masters playing in their prime.
We want more Ma long.... This is not the last. This is just a beginning.... Getting stronger.

Ma long has the best technic, his forehand topspin is very quickly, strong and accurately, when backhand is very consistently.
Ma long has the talent skills from his mind, body and practice, even not 100%
Xu xin is still strong but not quick as Ma long.

Ma Long is even more consistent without injuries, he is going to be on the Olympics singles list for China for sure then second spot will be decided between Fan and Xu, but i see Fan going for it

XX' forehand attack is still a lethal weapon, however ML didn't give him much chances to use it.

Look how XX never Cho lied during the whole time out of courtesy for Ma. Both of them have been competing for so long, it's like they know everything about each other and still have to beat the other one. After all this time, still they have the magic that no one else can produce. FZD, LJK, LGY have a heavy legacy to carry forward, because they will the standing on the shoulders of Giants 💯

This Malong would’ve destroyed Harimoto at the World Cup couple weeks ago to earn his 25th world title, the most number in table tennis history over Wangnan.
So powerful between these two. A point normally won within 3 or 4 turns.

Looks like the Chinese men Olympic team is pretty much set with Ma Long and Fan playing single in the team event and single competition and Xu Xin will play in the team double + mixed double partner with Liu. The younger Chinese men player is still not up to the level of the top 3 guys and Xu is still the odd man out in the single competition.. let’s just hope that Xu and Liu can win the mixed double gold in Tokyo. That would be a crowning achievement for his (and her) career.
40mm ball Era: Xu Xin, being a penholder and a very good one, however, he is nowhere near Ma Lin and Wang Hao.
38mm ball Era: Compared to the former great penholder champions: Jiang Jia Liang and Guo Yue Hua, Xu Xin can only qualify as a 2nd tier player.

Well, they both didn't or rather couldn't play their best game here. If XX had won the second game, the result might have been different.
I guess that Xu Xin succumbed, case Ma Long play worse than early. I don't belive that Xu Xin can loose this game.

Xu Xin wasn't quite at his best. Ma Long is still looking a little shaky but at least he seemed to improve a little bit since the World Cup.

Let's don't talk about Asian games that's too much. Ma long lose twice against wang hao in china national games. Ma long stars 2014 in amazing shape wins everything and then losing against zhang jike. After that we all saw that his mental wasn't good enough to beat fan. Soo overall he had his moments and he proved it in 2016 but there was nobody to stop the dictator soo it was kinda easy Olympic for him. I just told u that long story (still only the things i remember so i guess that i missed a lots of them) hope u understand. He's such an inspiration to me and i like him soo much but when something is wrong and i know it i just have to say it. (hope u can somehow endure my English)
