I think the version in “The Batman” was the most intimidating out of all of them. But my favorite is probably from “Batman Beyond” because of how sympathetic he was since all he wanted was to be normal and make amends for what he had done in the past then when Blight betrayed him he did it by ending his own life
I just think it's the most saddest form he was ever in. He never properly said goodbye to Nora, she died, he lost his body, he's somehow become a head, he wanted to die, the one moment he got his life back was a farce, and then he died alone, submitting to overexposure and radiation poisoning. If there was one time I'd give a villain a hug? It'd be him.
I think what makes the version from The Batman more threatening is that he's driven by nothing but greed and a desire for vengeance, there's no Nora to think of or save, he's just an amoral thief and killer.
you're more right than you know. during Grant morrison's leendary run on animal man, mr freeze was used as one of the poster-boys for discarded, forgotten characters trapped in comic book limbo.
Truly, the Mr. Freeze from Batman: The Animated Series is the defining incarnation of the character. Michael Ansara (RIP) brought the character to life during his time behind the mic. Clancy Brown brought a 'cold' demeanor (no pun intended) to the character in The Batman. I would have to say that Keith Szarabajka's take as Mr. Freeze in Young Justice is underrated. I would also have to say that Oded Fehr had sympathy in his voice when he voiced the character in Batman Unlimited: Mechs vs Mutants. And on another note, if it were up to me, I wouldn't have brought in the character in a live-action 90s Batman film since he started to gain popularity when he was re-introduced in the award-winning episode from Batman: The Animated Series.
well technically the Adam West version of Mr. Freeze was the only version back then. Before Batman:the animated series Mister Freeze was a corny 1 note villain with no real backstory. BTAS turned what was essentially a joke character into one the more popular members of Batman's rogue's gallery and a fairly powerful character in his own right.
Arnold as Mr Freeze was an alright casting choice but let’s be fair you weren’t gonna get an emotional performance out of the guy that Mr Freeze deserves
@GodZpeed X7 Actually, Batman and Robin and TAS versions have the same motive - curing Nora(albeit, TAS Mr. Freeze also wants to get his revenge on the guy who made him unable to survive in above-zero temperatures. If they would take away the hurricane of puns and add a little more tragedy in his character - it would have been perfect. TAS came to define the comics version of Mr. Freeze - and the Batman and Robin version was influenced by it.
Michael Ansara and Arnold Schwarzenegger were both great actors for Mr. Freeze (even if the 27 ice puns Arnold pulled off were REALLY fucking corny, but don't blame Joel for getting mediocre results by mixing the 1966 TV show's comedy with the animated series' dark and tragic factors).
Indeed. In fact, for Batman and robin, he was MEANT to play Mr. freeze. But the script writers realized that the lines written in the script matched an Arnold Schwarzenegger type, rather than classical actor Patrick Stewart.
2004 Mr. Freeze is a step back on the character.
