Sid McLeod I taught AP Literature for a number of years. One of the best lessons I ever taught was the lyrics to this song, completely stripped of punctuation and structure. Also, I let on that Brian Fallon was a reclusive poet. Just the words and kids had to decipher the aforementioned and interpret. It was incredible to see what the kids could extract from the text.
Scottie Stephens the majority of kids interpreted the narrator (Brian) taking on the metaphor of a hurricane. Destroying everything in its path, including this relationship. The “home” they built has been decimated by Brian’s destruction. The personification of the wind adds a nice twist to it.
Brian Fallon's voice sounds like a brilliant combination of Springsteen and Waits. There is a deep Jersey influence and it translates beautifully. He is far too underated, it's only recently I stumbled across his music and now can't imagine my life without it.
I know it's three years old at this point. But this song, this performance...it is still absolute perfection. I listen to this daily still, never gets old.
i’m getting divorced. i knew it was coming. i have these words Behold The Hurricane tattooed on my neck to give consolation against the pain that will come. Thanks, Brian.
In the name of all that is holy, why is this entire show not available on here?????? This is the one of the best live versions of Behold the Hurricane and espec. the Blues Mary I have ever heard. PLEASE, PLEASE make this entire show available!!!!!
I remember everything at night Every breath of this house creaking I'm familiar with the cold and the windows and the doors And the sound of my heart beating Beating in and out of time And it's such a shame I heard the wind say this morning Be still my heart I age by years at the mention of your name What a pity this season You remember me, my lover I don't recognize myself I'm not the man you love Behold the hurricane Behold the hurricane I walk around these empty rooms We once moved like the morning Silhouettes they haunt this house Like a memory haunts me now As if it were a dream As if it were a dream And it's such a shame I heard the wind say this morning Be still my heart I age by years at the mention of your name What a pity this season You remember me, my lover I don't recognize myself I'm not the man you love Behold the hurricane Behold the hurricane I heard the moon has visions of her nightly I heard the mighty rivers cry out her I saw the heaven and the earth I saw the heavens and the earth cry alone to you And it's such a shame I heard the wind say this morning Be still my heart I age by years at the mention of your name What a pity this season You remember me, my lover I don't recognize myself I'm not the man you love Behold the hurricane Behold the hurricane
This is probably one of the greatest songs about hurting inside ever written, this and Band of Horses “Laredo” both take you through the whole stages of pain & despair.
Think I found my new favourite song, but just barely. So hauntingly beautiful. At least I'll have two favourites on both side of the spectrum: Smoke and Behold The Hurricane. Thank you for making this available to us to cherish.
The joy in Brian's face when the crowd does the accompanying melody says it all. As every other comment has said he is one of if not the best songwriter of our generation. No other artist/group has ever captured my heart like The Gaslight Anthem/Brian Fallon and I hope that the hiatus ends sooner rather than later.
Paul, Lee et al - this is very nice work - as was said - "Basically all of it!" - great work; apparent great team - pre and post-production. Bravo. Please visit my channel - thanks.
So underrated. One of the greatest songwriters of our generation
Ryan Smith
His use of pros, metaphor, and imagery is beyond most.

@@ericferraro6264 I would be interested to hear about some of these interpretations

He most definitely is! Always come back to his songs and feel right at home

His talent is massive. I mean massive

"I age by years at the mention of your name" Wow, that is pure poetry!
I love his face at around 14 seconds when the crowd start joining in with him, looks like sheer happiness.
oh that smile when he hears the fans sing. *swoon*
i’m getting divorced. i knew it was coming. i have these words Behold The Hurricane tattooed on my neck to give consolation against the pain that will come. Thanks, Brian.

Greatest songwriter ever.

@@TheMasterdestroyer right??? There has to be more
Oh Brian, you magnificent wizard
That smile in the beginning....he is like "yeah its all worth it"
This recording is just utterly wonderful: the music, the camerawork, Brian, the crowd, the venue. Basically all of it!

someone could hire Brian Fallon to sing 'Amazing Grace' at a funeral and he'd sing the entire song with a smile on his face.
The future still needs you, Brian.
I feel as he is reliving a Past Life! I can see all the stories. A Beautiful Love Story!!
I remember everything at night
Every breath of this house creaking
I'm familiar with the cold and the windows and the doors
And the sound of my heart beating
Beating in and out of time
And it's such a shame
I heard the wind say this morning
Be still my heart
I age by years at the mention of your name
What a pity this season
You remember me, my lover
I don't recognize myself
I'm not the man you love
Behold the hurricane
Behold the hurricane
I walk around these empty rooms
We once moved like the morning
Silhouettes they haunt this house
Like a memory haunts me now
As if it were a dream
As if it were a dream
And it's such a shame
I heard the wind say this morning
Be still my heart
I age by years at the mention of your name
What a pity this season
You remember me, my lover
I don't recognize myself
I'm not the man you love
Behold the hurricane
Behold the hurricane
I heard the moon has visions of her nightly
I heard the mighty rivers cry out her
I saw the heaven and the earth
I saw the heavens and the earth cry alone to you
And it's such a shame
I heard the wind say this morning
Be still my heart
I age by years at the mention of your name
What a pity this season
You remember me, my lover
I don't recognize myself
I'm not the man you love
Behold the hurricane
Behold the hurricane
I’m so glad that we were there for this! It was such a beautiful night!

How freaking beautiful is this?

Some of the most beautiful lyrics I know
I am so glad this exists.
This man's such a great artist!
His smile ☺ 😍

Seriously can't wait to see fallon in April next year- he's a true genius in his own right 😄
Eu te amo, Brian Fallon!
Someone could hire Brian Fallon to sing Amazing Grace at a funeral and he'd sing the whole thing with giant a smile on his face.
It was an amazing show!! Glad I was part of it!
Wish this had gotten recorded + pressed to vinyl. This is beautiful!
Agreed!
Silent legend
They're so missing out
Fallon is playing at Foxwoods Casino in January and I was debating going.
The debate is over.
This song always gives me shivers! I hope he will do it live when I get to see his solo show next month!
Amazing performance; great recording at a great little venue.
i just love this songs.. and this version suits the song so well.. perfect!

Crossroads (Garwood, NJ) Amazing. This must have been one hell of a show!

THANKS! Enjoyed this very much.
Is there a copy of "blood loss' in this performance? If anyone has that, I would love it.
Save for him messing up the chords towards the end, this was amazing!
Where can I buy this version of the song?
I dont want to be the nutcracker, but even though I agree he is from The Gaslight Anthem, this song is from his side project The Horrible Crows
just out of curiosity and i am sure you get this a lot, but is there a place i can go to see more of this show?
he's so adorable. yummy

Similar voice and genre to Bob Dylan.
