Annie Lennox On Eurythmics, Fame, Feminism & 'Letting Go' | Mavericks With Ari Melber | MSNBC
I love that she hasn't had any work done, she has lines on her face but it only adds to her beauty!
True. I am almost 50 and have decided to spend my energy on dealing with my changing looks from the inside:)
@Kristina.. good point. I'm so sick of looking at Artists with their faces pulled back! So good to see someone with an age appropriate face for once!! (She's still beautiful and articulate...)!
@@davidhenderson5051 Or when they smile, their cheeks can't move naturally.
True. "any work done" is such a euphemism for doing quite severe surgery with significant risks just to aim to hide your age.
She is and always will be the class act we all saw that first time..
When you listen to her, look at her career, what she has done through the years, not only in the music industry, but in her life too and compare to these people who can't sing, can't play, can't perform and all they want is to be an Instagram "celebrity", you realize how precious she is. She is amazing, really amazing.
Annie Lenox knows who she is, where she came from, and her place in history. With humbleness she chose humanity over relevance, which is why she couldn’t be more relevant in our world today. Thank you for the music, and showing us the way to things that really matter.
Look around those who you interact with most days. They can be humble and show you what really matters. Ordinary people can shine.
@Trust me I'm a Doctor Trust me I'm a Doctor, but there can be such beauty in a crazy woman - a girl friend I once had cut her hair short too - I adored it
She's very passionate about the impact of injustice, abuse and poverty leveled on women and children.
you summed it up perfectly.
Beautifully stated.
Such an incredible artist in every way.
Thank you so much Jefferson. You are an amazing person and special in every way. Big HEART
Love love love this woman , she is such a diverse personality and it is wonderful to see a woman of a certain age, looking like she has lived life and not trying to look like a 20 year old ............you are a World National Treasure..........
right on sister! The real deal!
"woman" "real deal"
The real deal 💖💖💖💖💖
Mysoginy! She can look just as she wants, making oneself more beautiful is not a sin or immoral, stop putting pressure on women!
Love Love Love you too Donna. Thank you for your love and passion. Big HEART
Not only do I love her singing voice, but her spoken voice projects such wisdom and warmth and kindness. And her talent is enormous.
Annie, quite an impressive human.
an amazing woman we have all been lucky to have been graced by her beauty, an ambassador for all things great
Been listening to Annie since I was 10 years old...I'm nearing 50. Love this woman so very much. Thank you for a lifetime of wonderful music - you are a beautiful soul and we're lucky to have you share your incredible gifts with us.
Have you seen her profile/history on "Who Do You Think You Are?" Really worth a watch.
I was 30
#metoo 😊😉
Me too. Nearing fifty and listening since 1982. Great music for the ages.
Been listening to her since ~1983, over 50 here. Dressed as her for Halloween, including dyeing my hair with the exact same hair dye she used at the time. Big fan, even have a 45 rpm from her very first band.
i was at a meditation class one day in London and there was one seat spare next to me. Just as we were about to start someone came rushing in and sat down beside me. it was Annie Lennox! All i had in my head throughout the whole meditation was 'Sweet Dreams'. She spoke at the end and was intelligent and kind..much like she is here..lovely woman.
Too bad you didn't whisper "Sweet dreams are made of this". My sister met Dustin Hoffman in a K-Mart. He was with his sons and didn't want to be bothered, but my sister just said to him "K-Mart Sucks" LOL! (Line from Rainman). He laughed.
That must have been quite a challenge! "Equanimity? Not this time!!"
Annie is a national treasure. She is seemingly fearless on the outside but warm and caring in the inside. She is right about artists being sensitive. I love her voice and her music. I recall her saying when asked why she cut her hair short and dyed it bright orange, that she didn’t want to be “another pretty blonde” she wanted to be admired for her work not her personage. I think she and Dave Stewart were both Mavericks IMO.
アニーは世界の宝です。
annie is a world's treasure.
A national treasure...for Scotland?
Correction: International treasure...❤❤❤
And Bowie could only hold a note while running to the loo.
Yes, we enjoyed her music and yes she has lines on her face because she is simply another HUMAN BEING.
IDOL WORSHIP is so outdated . We all can and should find our own undiscovered gifts instead of searching for them in others . We are too busy idolizing
" made famous" people.
She’s genius, iconic, beautiful, powerful, trailblazing, original. Her place in musical history is assured for posterity. How many people can claim that?
When Eurythmics was at their height I wasn't even born and when Annie Lennox went solo I was a baby, but their music and her music have deeply influenced my life later. Such music transcends generations. Annie is a Diva, a Goddess, a Muse. And such a beautiful human, inside and out.
A proud Scot watching a proud, very able and gifted Scot, a world citizen..... These days in America, to see, listen and experience something positive is such a breath of fresh air, this was a pleasure.....Thanks Ari Melber ...What has happened to the USA ? since 2016, the wall has gone up, not down. Together, we can get anything done...a motto for the USA, although many times not quite perfect, but ready to mend and move all of us to a better place. To witness the state of America today, it is truly disturbing, undeserved for those citizens who have worked so hard, yet see so much going wrong, and now seeing this place in history...confusing at least, is hard to accept. How to tell your children about a president who lies, has been caught up in scandal after scandal, is a friend to dictators, ignores his own agencies, endangers the country, who cons the very people who put him in office..how do you actually come to terms with such a glaring reality..... The waste from the top, the abuse, lies and continual affront..paid for by those from the bottom and middle classes..never the rich.. This, little segment gives you a sense of hope, there are many folks who care...Thanks Annie.
Gosh I’ve loved and listened to her my entire life! ❤️🙌❤️
Another great SCOTTISH artist..
Why the all caps?
@@telectronix1368 Ever heard of EMPHASIS?
@@pugsandcoffeeplease Hi there, my question was to the OP.
@@telectronix1368 And my answer was for you.
@@pugsandcoffeeplease No, you weren't answering why the OP typed that comment the way they did.
(Regardless of how significant you felt your words were.)
Annie Lennox: humble, insightful, wise, brave, vulnerable, generous, compassionate, inspiring. A person with grace. Thank You.
Scottish.
Oh yes every adjective is spot on!
She's simply put a bonafide goddess as far as I'm concerned!
You are amazing Dan. Thank you for the love and passion. Big HEART
There's something very beautiful about this woman beyond her music, voice and beauty.
It's her mind and her warm heart.
She is very special in all kinds of ways.
Be happy Annie.
I remember when I was probably just a teen I saw her doing an interview in the early 80s and she walked in with that amazing bright hair in a very modern type of space the interview was set in and though I wasn’t really into her music then, I felt she was from another world that was kinder and more beautiful than ours. She was so comfortable being her.
Annie Lennox has one of the most amazing and powerful singing voices ever recorded. I really loved the explanation she gave for her art installation.
True
Ari Melber is like a gem miner
he has such a keen eye and ability to recognize what's precious
Annie Lennox is really such a gem
He's a shill for Cadillac.
He’s a Marxist lefty jew who keeps bringing up Marxist lefty talking points while interviewing a Brit pop star from the 80s and 90s.
@@megamillionfreak amen
So glad she mentioned '1984', that album blew me away then, and it is still a fave today.
Love them both. Annie Lennox is one of the best vocalists of all time!
I think it would be great if she collaborated with Enya. The coming together of an ethereal relaxing sound.
Annie is a legend. She's an incredibly strong performer.
The interview with Annie warmed my soul just like her music. She epitomizes grace, charm, and spirituality.
Annie is my hero. Her voice sends me to the stars.
Ari Melber blows my mind. He's just as sharp with his legal and political journalism as he is with music.. with exquisite taste as well. Cool interview.. hope to see more of this series. A+++
William Baker And he’s Gorgeous
He's a shill for Cadillac. What are you talking about?'
Ari's interviewing style holds a deep gravity and authenticity. He always can bring his interviewing subjects to a grounding clarity of their secured suitabilty of individual 'genius. He's brilliant!
@William, I have ONLY seen his political journalism and this was quite a shock to me, seeing him smile and chit chat... he's good!
@@anatasiabeaverhausen7942 He's a cultural stiff. He doesn't know anything about her and it showed. She deserved someone a little more hip. Sorry Annie. You've given us decades of music only a female maverick could. Your activism for children, girls and those with AIDS did so much. Can't wait to see your exhibit here in Mass.
"Why" is one of the greatest songs.
I love Shame and I love to Listen to Beethoven.
I concur 🕊
I perform it at least once a week!
Explain "why"

I LOVE her! She exudes strength and fearlessness. And dang, she is so incredibly intelligent and articulate.
I Love you too Steve. Thank you for the love and passion.
I am a 77 year old unrepentant MAGA republican and wish Annie nothing but success and long life in whatever she wants to do with the time she has left. I have never heard an Annie song that wasn't a gift to humanity. She is spectacular in every way. I am with you Annie. Go get 'em.
Great interview. Annie is a legend. A very thoughtful, creative, positive individual.
i feel very lucky to be able to have experienced the eurythmics when they were happening ,sadly the youth today have no idea i cant think of anyone with the talent and magic that annie and dave had ,and still have .
richardm239 so glad I grew up in the 80s. The music blew my mind.
I was lucky enough to see The Eurythmics live in concert a few times. Such an excellent show! Such a voice! I even snuck in my camera one time and got some pretty cool photos!
I was 20 when the Eurythmics hit. To my mind, she taught a whole generation of vocalists how to sing with deeply personal emotion, in a way that felt just so new at the time.
She's so Awesome, she had such a cool look 😎 she sounds like my neighbor. We like the Eurythmics because they ROCK 🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸
so humble despite her shining star. the way she shook Ari's hand in the end.
Annie is such a thoughtful and insightful human being. This interview makes me respect her musical artistry even more.
I love her. She is so real. I hope I look that good when I am in my mid sixties.
Great interview of a classy lady who just happens to be one of the greatest singers of all time!
I met her when I was 15 years old in San Antonio. I waited until like midnight at the Majestic Theater after their concert there in 1984. She's as gracious now as she was then..and TOTALLY agree with her mention of the Album 1984...if you haven't listened to it....definitely suggest doing it! It's a MUST have in one's Eurythmics collection.
I definitely want to check that out!
The Majestic is the most beautiful theatre I have ever been in and I saw Les Mis at it decades ago and it changed my life. I imagine seeing her there was also amazing.
@ Craig Sorrells Indeed - To this day, my husband and I are likely to refer to something as "plusgood doubleplusgood" What a joy to have met her!
Annie, all talent and no false glib, love and respect you! 😁💖
Could not click fast enough! LOVE me some Annie Lennox!
Ari be killing the game!
Thank you for this one, sir!
Annie is an absolute LEGEND. I love her so much.
Ari is a cool dude and a conduit between the previous and more current adult generations. His sense of humor and enjoyment of life is not hidden in his work and that’s brave in a sense. Very unique and valuable journalistic persona.
What an unbelievably gracious, humble and well-spoken human being.
Her/Eurythmics music is so iconic, that it still stands on its own, sounding still current not in the least bit dated
Some of her post Eurythmics music is also amazing
Annie is a true artist, in every sense. An incredible talent, and an incredible woman.
YES! We don't see enough of the fabulous Annie Lenox! Her beauty and talent are ageless.
A remarkable artist, and a wise and lovely person. I felt a warm streak to her response to the most overlooked Eurythmics song. I remember when critics were not so kind about,1984, but it's an excellent record, and one of my faves.
Bold. Breathtaking. Beautiful. Thank-you Annie! Thank-you Ari!
She's a magnificent artist, musician and visual artist.
I love Annie Lennox. She is an extraordinary human being, and artist. And she is so emotionally present-- particularly in this interview. I think Ari Melber was, perhaps, a bit in awe of her presence, passion, and intelligence. I appreciated how respectful he was with her.
I have always loved the Eurythmics!!!! Always a good message!!!!
So endearing to see her vulnerability and sensitivity. You can just feel her compassion, what a loving creative soul.
I must go now and watch some Eurythmics videos! Thanks Ari and Annie!

@Jewels Star Gregory Porter is just 1 of the most talented artists out there nowadays, with a Jazz background and beyond...
Wow...I love her!!!...Ari, this is really good!
Excellent interview 👍👏 Annie Lennox is a great artist and I grew up listening to her & Dave Stewart in the 80's, 90's both were awesome together. I hope they'll perform together one more time.
With remarkable teachers like this, I refuse to apologize for being a child of the 80s.
Annie Lennox has a really beautiful voice when she sings. Her voice can be strong and powerful or soft and gentle with great range.
What a warm, beautiful human being she is.
I loved what she said. To look out of the box. The world is always out there, only memories are inside the mind or "the box".
One my favorite groups of the 80's. Annie is a very deep person and appears to be a down to earth and REAL person. Love to meet her one day. " Who's that Girl " was my favorite song. " Sweet Dreams" is very relevant today. When your music can span generations, that is a great Musician.
Appreciate Your Work Annie!!!!
Yes i like how you said that. That's the feeling i get from her. She's famous but she's not in the least boastful about it.
💖Really love Annie Lennox so much! A wonderful interview.
Annie has an angelic voice. Very talented. Does 🎶 she wants to do , not what her label orders her to do.
She is a true artist. An amazing women that is classically trained singer and can belt like the best of them. The comments about being an artist and being vulnerable and her having ‘melancholy’ illustrates how humble she is. She is a true lady.
She's still got it. A true icon. Where are the icons of today?
Why Cardi B. She's a glamorous, elegant, classy beautiful woman of style. LOL
Guilty Pleasures Music are you kidding me 🤣😂😅 Cardi B is the antithesis of Class.

A dynamic person you are Miss Lennox. Thank you.
Thank you Ari and Annie. This is probably the best interview of Annie I’ve seen in 30 plus years.
given she went to School with my mom at Aberdeen Grammar, best interview by Ari ever.
What a beautiful woman....yesterday and today!! Always had a mad crush on her and her music. So talented.
Thanks Ari and Annie for a great interview.
What a blessing she is. Couldn’t love her more.
Great interview. Ari is top dog. Intelligent and understanding of music. Annie of course is a stunning woman, not just in looks but her fire is fantastic.
I can't believe that I had never encountered this interview before. What a marvelous artist, woman, and person.
She's just an amazing individual.
Wow! So authentic. So passionate. So unselfconscious. I am impressed, and didn't expect to be. God bless Annie Lennox.
As others have commented, Ari is fantastic. Such a great interview and in less than 20 mins I feel I connect more with Annie Lennox than I ever have before. 😊
There was a lot of editing...a goid interviewer asks the question and lets rhe subject speak until they are done.
noonsound He is not “fantastic”. He’s just another Marxist lefty jew asking inane questions and bringing up Marxist Left’s favorite talking points while interviewing a 65 year-old aged Brit pop star. Oy vey.
Such an interesting lady! Seems to be a gentle soul.
Annie is the best...
She is AMAZING!
An incredible artist. Period. Love her!
Love you Annie..💗💗💗💗
What a wonderful example of humanity. Having achieved great professional and financial success, she barely stops before boldly marching onward to new passions and new work to be done. And thank you for reminding us of the beauty of a woman who wears her age like the achievement that it is.
A true maverick. Humility is success and what a marvellous example of it. She speaks from her heart and comes across as completely grounded and simpatico with the universe. Love your music and the message you leave for the generations to come. Respect ✊and love ❤️
Our youth. Music gives us all our own special place to be. . Trees bring me strong earth, emotion. People extremely complex. Love Parents. Children, All enveloping depth no limit. Nature constant preoccupation. We have destroyed so much desperate feeling.. Annie has just brought out . Introspection Rare. Ari Melber great .
so deep wow
She's so intelligent and sensitive and perceptive, and she's devoted her life to creating beauty and inspiration through her music. A true artist. We need more people like her today. So badly.
I have always loved the Annie Lynox and the Eurymthics.
I adore this woman and always have. Its nice to see her again I haven't seen much of Annie in a while.
I've always loved Annie Lennox. She's most definitely a maverick!
Ari, 🎼🎶 'who's that girl, running around with you, tell mey?!'🎵🎶 ---- I'll tell you who it is, it's beautiful Annie Lennox!💝😀 She's one of my favorite singers/performers! It was her resonating, angelic, sultry voice, like none other,....sort of haunting (in a good way). I love Annie Lennox!, her hair styles/cut/color!, her bold fashion!, her accent/the way she talks, her caring heart, and universal soul.....
Another one of my favorite songs is: "Sweet Dreams" 💗💕---- don't get me started,..... because over here, they're telling me to stop singing, right now, But that's okay,.....i'll just dance to the song.....
Her intelligence stands out She speaks with such innocence and elegance sincerity with her words that is so admirable.
I've never heard any scandal coming from her. She comes across as very likeable and her voice is very soothing. I didn't know she was Scottish. She's not trashy, and not male bashing either, just a normal person. Even if she wasn't famous If she sang in a bar i would stay all night and listen to her.
I agree
This is such a great interview!
When I was just shy of six years old, I saw the Sweet Dreams video with my older sister and thought Annie Lennox was David Bowie's sister. I typically do not like female singers but Annie's is a treasure among artists across all mediums, nationalities, and genders. She is a true Maverick and I am grateful to have enjoyed her music nearly my entire lifetime. What a journey it's been. Great interview. Thank you, Ari.
Yes, the skin is no longer the same, the voice is no longer the same and even the color of the eyes is no longer the same, but still a beautiful person. For me it will always be unforgettable, because all my youth was accompanied by his great voice and music. Thanks for all your talent, Annie! Kisses from Brazil!
That was a quite an interesting and beautiful exhibition a true artist in every form thanks Ari for that delightful display
Thank you so much! I would never have seen, or even know about, the installation if you hadn’t covered it. Marvelous interview!
Wow she is still a STUNNING woman. This is how to age gracefully. And what wisdom and grace. It just shows, she came across as intelligent and different in the 80s and it wasn't an act. Well done Annie.
Gorgeous. That voice, that voice!! Glad a saw this video. She is so cool.
This lady can reach down into my soul
She always has
She reaffirms the only values I subscribe to
Strange how you can feel closer to a stranger (only caught her onstage once) than anyone in the world including family
Probably just schizophrenic
Maybe only musicians would understand
But she’s not a cult leader or a guru so think I’m safe here
And happy
The bad thing has gone away
The good is here to stay
I love this woman, this artist.
"It's alright, Annie's coming back!" ;D
"And I don't really care where she's been" ^_^
Annie, you are an icon!! Thanks for rocking my life in the 80's & 90's!! Ps. You are still hot!! Coffee?! 😎😎🔥👍👍
