Chinggis Khan= Genghis Khan. And yes, many of their songs reference him, generally as a bringer of wisdom and uniter of nations. They are serious about bringing their culture to the world, as well as bringing it back to the forefront of the Mongolian consciousness. So many of their song center around how great their culture once was, and how they could be- and should be!- again.
The really deep throat singing you heard was called khoomei, and it's actually kind of similar to Geoff's subharmonics in how that sound is created. The overtones were a variety known as sygyt- both Enkush (one of the morin khuur-horsehead fiddle- players) and Jaya (the fellow with the long, long hair; he was the first singer in this) can perform that kind of throat singing.

i see these guys whenever they're within 300 miles of me, they are fantastic and the energy they bring to the stage is some of the best i've ever seen! you should checkout Yuve Yuve Yu and their remake of Wolf Totem with jacoby shaddix of papa roach. you're a big fan of home free (i'm also a home fry) and the hu is one of adam rupp's favorite bands. keep up the awesome reactions🤩 BTW The Hu has received several cultural awards from the Mongolian government for bringing their culture mainstream. most of their music is about history and heritage or are actual ancient war chants and battle songs. their collaboration with Lzzy Hale from Halestorm on Song of Women is beautiful. i'll be happy to sponsor a reaction, let me know how

The first song I heard the Hi sing was Wolf Totem......so far that has been my favorite. The most pop is Huge Give Yu. Wolf Totem got this 70 year old women's blood pumping. I highly suggest Wolf Totem.

mongolian culture and history are epic af. Tengrism is similar to animism in mongolion culture and tengri the designation for "gods" and spiritual creatures (as a really short Explanation). Genghis Khan is one of the highest tengri in mongolia.

Nah. Tengri is the literal sky above us. There is no god figure in mongolian culture. Closest we have is ancestral worship.

@@adiyadashshatraabal8703 Tengri is actually also the name of a pagan religion that old nomadic people had who lived around the region.

By most numerical estimates, Ghengis Khan killed a larger percentage of the human population than any other disaster we have recorded in human history, depopulating entire cities and sometimes even entire nations and creating the largest contiguous land empire to date. He was called "the scourge of god." (It's even in this song, "The scourge of Tengri") That said, from the Mongolian perspective, they see him as a uniter and a peace bringer, and a bringer of wealth. He did bring great riches and newfound rights to the people of his homeland, giving them a special passport called a "gereg" that let the mongolian people travel freely, and it makes sense that Mongolians look back on his reign like a golden age. It was -- for them. Modern Mongolian Nationalism is strongly tied to Ghengis Khan and the "Black Banner". I love the Hu's music, and I'm fascinated by Mongolia, but my GF is Chinese, and to her their songs are absolutely terrifying. After all, there's a lot of history there.

The scourge of God was Atilla the Hun not Chinggis Khaan

@@lorriemiller6750 From the Wikipedia article "Scourge of God"
The Scourge of God may refer to:
Attila the Hun who was known by this name
(In medieval ecclesiastical legend) a generalized epithet for any disaster afflicting a nation because of sin
      The Black Death
      Genghis Khan, etc.
(Alternately) the affliction of the virtuous through same, using "scourge" in the sense of purification through mortification

If you love this type of cultural music, I highly recommend watching Heilung. They also have throat singing, but a different type from The Hu. Heilung is proto Germanic and VERY GOOD. I can't recommend them enough.

0:16 Not a play on words, the man we know as Ghengis Khaan is actually Chinggis Khaan as he’s known in Mongolia. His real name is Temujin, “Chinggis Khaan” basically means “Leader of all Mongols”.
