      It's funny that the Germanic people originally came from the eastern steppes, and they originally had a culture not so unfamiliar from the mongols. They even shared throat singing though it has died out in the west. It is known that the Yamnaya and their derivatives traveled as far as the taklamakan desert, and traveled through central Asia into northern India. Pretty cool to think about how a Scandinavian guy could be related to someone in Afghanistan, or India for example. It's a small world for sure 😂

    So the name Chinggis Khan is the actual name of Genghis Khan, the latter is the Europeanized version of his name.
    If I remember correctly, Marco Polo met the grandson of Chinggis (Genghis) Kahn, Kublai Kahn.
    Nice to see that you took the time to familiarize yourself with the history behind the music in addition to the musicianship :)

    This music stirs in all of us that primordial connection-
    to the land, to our collective human history, to each other.
    I believe this is why it has attracted so many, regardless
    of any presupposed language barrier.

    Just stumbled upon your video, great setup, voice and analyzation ! Regarding the history, Genghis Khan = Chinggis Khaan, same person as you found out. The guy you are talking about in Marco Polo is actually Kublai Khaan, the grandson of Chinggis that inherited the Chinese part of his empire. Chinggis Empire was created in 1 lifetime (he was a slave until his 30's !) and stretched from China to Poland, he was by far the greatest conqueror of all time (and one of the most brutal ones). A very interesting character to say the least

    • @StoneTitan
      @StoneTitan 3 роки тому +2

      I might be recalling wrong, but pretty sure that Chinggis father was a powerful man, so Chinggis while he had his time battling slavery indicating he had 30 years of slavery seems a bit extreme, but well he is one to remember, Temujin.

    • @Icetubexd
      @Icetubexd 3 роки тому +2

      @@StoneTitan It's true he was somewhat powerful but AFAIK his father and his followers all got killed. Genghis powerbase effectively seized to exist and he spent much of his early post-slavery time forging local alliances and building up a 'new' tribe with unique organization. I meant to write 20's instead of 30's too btw., was a typo. Regardless that's still incredibly impressive to me.

    THE fearsome Mongolian warrior of the 13th century, may have done more than rule the largest empire in the world; according to a recently published genetic study, he may have helped populate it too.
    An international group of geneticists studying Y-chromosome data have found that nearly 8 percent of the men living in the region of the former Mongol empire carry y-chromosomes that are nearly identical. That translates to 0.5 percent of the male population in the world, or roughly 16 million descendants living today. From the National Geographic 2003.
