Great build, BG. What an awesome way to remember your dad. I'm sure it was really tough getting back at it, but it's an awesome thing to see and think of him. I love the cornmeal idea. I've got lots of dirt outside my house. The last thing I wanna do is dig it up and then sift it. Cornmeal, it is for me. Thanks for the tip
A beautiful tribute to “The Old Man”. Sorry for your loss. My dad worked for IH and had a ‘76 Scout II. I’ve been wanting to build one like his. But his was a convertible. Would be neat to see how you would build one now with new knowledge and techniques. Peace and love.
Hi TJ, thank ypu so much! I agree, one day another version may get built using these techniques. I believe, from what i have seen of this kit and remember of the build, it could be possible to remove the top. but it would be some work.
I love your builds and your approach to building but this has been and is my fave build of yours ever since I first clapped eyes on it years ago. Great attention to detail, cool tribute too. I've got several build dedications for passed family members to do myself.
Hi Fred! Oh man I am so stoked to know this is one of you most favorite builds! I'm glad i shared on this one! I hope you can get to your projects and that while working on them you enjoy the memories of the good times you got to share with the folks you are building for.
No worries there BG, the memories are still quite vivid and I think of them often regardless of how much time has passed. They are among my highest build priorities on my projects list, which itself is quite long. I would like to do a similar version of your "Old Man" but not weathered.
That's a great looking build. Excellent weathering and cool use of the hot wheels tires. I often wondered if those would fit. Sorry to hear of your pops.🙏
A - This build is so good! Love the mud and fenders. B - The fact that its a tribute makes it all the more special. I really appreciate and admire that you finished it.
Hi James, thank you! my condolences my friend. very hard to hear about others having suffered through the loss of a Dad. I hope you had a good support group and bench time to help you though it.
Great tribute, BG. Sorry for your loss. I lost my dad in the 90s. And you're absolutely right. This hobby helps me with many issues in my life. It's more than just a hobby.
Hi Rob, sorry to hear about you father. Losing a parent is one of the things we have to suffer. sometimes it comes sooner than we expect. I am grateful that I had the hobby and at the time a great crew of friends in a local club that were there to help.
A great story of you truck and how it came about. Sorry for your loss of your Dad , I know how you felt at the time for I loss my in 1982 and them mom in 2020. It take a bit to get over and I thought I would never get over losing my wife of 35 years in 2011 but I did with the help of my kids and my wife now. i still think about them all the time.
Hi Donnie, I am so sorry to hear about you're loss. It sounds like you are in a good place now and that's what is important. This hobby and by extension the people in it are definitely good for the soul! Thank you for sharing your powerful story.
A really good episode of Model Cars & Coffee there BG. Thanks for sharing the build and the story behind it. I have been thinking about doing a build dedicated to my Pops. He had a few memorable vehicles that he was known for. (Most of them are NOT produced by the model companies… 🙄) It would be interesting to do a GB in honor of our fathers…maybe to coincide with Father’s Day. 🤔 Add that to the growing list, eh. 😂 Anyway, appreciate you sharing and inspiring us to keep building. ✌🏽😎👍🏾 BTW, love the “snappy” music you chose at the end. 😆 🎶🎶🎶🎶
Hi Clifton! Thank you so much for the kind comment! Sounds like your dad had quite the eye for the interesting car just like mine did. LOL! a fathers day appreciation build would definitely be a sweet idea and I would partake in that! =) Glad you dig the tunes! just a quick experiment on my part!
I'm sorry the loss of your father, but what a wonderful way to remember & honor his memory. I've always loved the IH trucks from the 60's & 70"s. A high school buddy of mine had a 2 wheel drive 4 door IH TravelAll and it was a great vehicle for "male bonding"(aka partying & road trips) Good luck with completing the Super Bee. "The Old Man" is another example of your outstanding weathering skills. Thanks for sharing this build and its significance for you. Tom S.
Hi Tom! thank you so much my friend! A guy in our neighborhood has an orange one with a white top. I thought about making an offer on it, but my rule of "one hobby at a time" comes back to me just before I do LOL. sounds like you and your friend have some pretty fond memories of the truck! =)
Yes! This awesome Scout has made it on other video. I’m enjoying these Cars and Coffees episodes. This is still one on my favorites of your builds Brian. Thanks for recapping the story even it’s good and bad. Your dad is proud on this thing trust me.
The AMT Scout II is an okay kit, but a bit light on details. Hopefully Revell will make a better detailed kit of it. Speaking of replicating mud, on a 1/35 scale US Army tank model, I once used cinnamon powder to make my "mud". It's the only kit I ever entered into a show, and won a First! I wonder if the nice smell of the kit encouraged the judges? 😅
Hi Lance! I agree, Hope Revell can make something more detailed and a heavier parts count! WOW!!I have never heard of someone using cinnamon powder on the model before!! congrats on taking first! I bet the lovely scent had nothing to do with it! LOL!!
Hi Edward, I have seen those trucks before and really like them! I wish they produced a model of them. Man, really sorry to hear that your brother smashed it up. I hope he was ok though.
I know where you are coming from I loss my pops 8 yrs ago I was in the middle of a diorama (military) it took me six to eight months to get back to it on a side note my pops said to me once never call me the old man because one day you will look in the mirror and see the old man that you became funny how fast time came
Hi Timothy, I am sorry to hear about your Dad passing. My Dad said to neve call him that either, but it sort of fit the build. =) It really sounds like you were in the same place I was when you Dad passed. Did getting back to the bench and working on a project help you start moving forward like it did for me?
Corn meal, brilliant, have to ask, didn't Mrs BG have a little house plant somewhere to steal a little dirt out of?? LOL Really great build!! My wife just lost her dad 2 weeks ago. I'm still blessed to have mine, he'll be 86 on the 28th.
Hi Oron! So sorry to her bout your father-in-law. I hope the Missus is doing as well as a can be expected right now. Nope no plants here. we have brown thumbs lol. any plants we have are actually Lego! =)
That truck is awesome your dad would be proud cool wheels god bless your family.

Thank you!! It was something I always hoped he would get to see.
Great build, BG. What an awesome way to remember your dad. I'm sure it was really tough getting back at it, but it's an awesome thing to see and think of him. I love the cornmeal idea. Howdy! thank you, I feel my dad would have liked this build. Glad to hear you like the corn meal idea! Hope it works out for you!! =)

Thank you very much Cal! I don't like being that heavy in videos, but the back story really helps illustrate what this model a means to me.

Best wishes, Joachim
Many Thanks Joachim! I have always wished my father could have seen the truck when it was done.
Great story on the build . Sorry for your loss. He was probably a cool guy like you are.
Hi Sammy! thank you so much! he definitely was. he helped me become the entertaining fellow I am today! =)
That's a great looking build. Excellent weathering and cool use of the hot wheels tires. I often wondered if those would fit.
Sorry to hear of your pops.🙏
Howdy! Thank you so much. I feel the wheels fit great for this build, however, I don't think they would fit other types of builds. like rock crawlers.
@BGsModelWorkshop Maybe a truck and tractor pull pickup...
Oh!! Yeah!!!!!😃
Nice job on the truck 👍🏿
Hi Leon, thank you my friend!!
Looks fantastic Bryan👍
Thanks Paul!! =)

Hi Steve! you are so right! well said!!
This was an amazing build Bryan and great tribute. I think the way you did the mud was brilliant btw and looks great.
Thank you Joe!! when i created this "recipe" for the mud, i sport of kept with it and have gotten really good at "muddying" builds! =)

Amazing build im sure your dad is so proud of that tribute. I did a tribute build for my dad it was the 78 dodge truck wit a trailer and model a
Hi Carl! Thank you, I agree, i think he would have liked it also. That sounds like a great tribute for him!! =)

Thank My friend! now-a-days, i think this old build would get smoked by modern competition. LOL

Awesome Scout build! And an even better tribute to your dad. Ironically, my father also passed very suddenly and he owned a yellow mid-80s Scout II.
Hi Johnny! Very sorry to hear about you dad too my friend. A yellow version? I don't think i have seen one of those before! =)
