I think Neil Sedaka has been overlooked by reactors. He made some beautiful songs. His music crossed generations. You never have to wonder what he said. His lyrics are as ckear as a bell. From preteens to grandparents .Love his music.
Being sentimental isn't corny or anything to be embarrassed about. This is a lovely, sweet, graceful song that makes for nice dancing music if one's so inclined. A classic.
Neil and Carole King (born Carol Klein) dated in high school in Brooklyn back in the day. Carole went on to Queens College where she met and married Gerry Goffin (her writing partner until their divorce in the late '60s). Neil even released a single entitled "Oh Carol" in 1961. Carole responded with a single entitled "Oh Neil." LOL.
Sedaka sang "Breaking Up is So Hard To Do" as a fast pop song. When he got older, he reworked it to a slow ballad. Was a remarkable song as a ballad. Also, his song "Oh, Carol" is about Carole King.
Had an album by Neil Sedaka back in the days, absolutely loved Oh Carol and so many more.... Laughter in the rain is one of my favorits, has been on my playlist for a long time 🤩🤩🤩 Thank you Imadrummin and Harri
It was a huge hit in the US, got no 1 on Billboard and when I listened the first time to that song, I got it, this is so sweet and catchy. BTW there were, even real young, a lot of famous studio musicians in LA like Russ Kunkel, Leland Sklar, Dean Parks and the sax is playing by Jim Horn, this great musician (Fifth Dimension, G. Harrison, Beach Boys, Stones, Carpenters and many more) on this smash hit record by Neil Sedaka !
@@Imadrummin Yes, I know, they were young and a kind of squad, working close together in even in early years, Rita Coolidge in 1977 or Summer Breeze by Seals and Crofts, Sklar was one of the most demanded bass player in the 70ies and 80ies, also for Phil Collins and Kunkel played on some many hits then, Parks too.
Neil's song "The Hungry Years" was released in 1975 and has been covered by dozens of artists. It is one of the most beautiful and sad songs of all time. Mostly just beautiful. The lyrics are a masterpiece, and the music blends flawlessly. Beautiful ballad.
Neil wrote this with lyricist Phil Cody with plans to put it on an upcoming album on the MCA label, under Elton John's auspices. But Lea Roberts recorded and released it first. When Sedaka heard it on the radio, he called Elton and urged him to have MCA release his version as a single. And it did reach #1, Harri. The sax solo is by Jim Horn, one of the busiest sax men in the business. Thanks Imadrummin and Harri! The music lives on!
Thank you so much Imadrummin for requesting this of Harri. Neil had quite a few big hits and also wrote songs for other artists. Neil has a channel on You Tube and he still performs requests. He is up in age, but his voice still sounds great. I love that he’s still entertaining. He is a real gem. Thanks Harri for the great reaction. 👏👏👏🥰
I don't feel so lonely anymore. For years I thought that I was the only one listening to "Laughter In The Rain", Harri. I'm grateful for you playing this video for your subscribers. Another beautiful song is "Daybreak" by Barry Manilow.
Songs from the 50's 60' 70;s 80's and 90's had so much meaning and healing for millions people around this globe. Remember when this one came out and did walk through heavy rainfall but the feeling was so great in a country without gun violence screaming people or fights. Just plain peaceful 24 hrs a day. Melody and lyrics always have a deep inpact for sure. Harribest wishing you the best during these england disturbances.
I just subscribed to HarriBest after I liked with a thumbs up. Do hope all is well for you during these times in England. Have watched you reactions before and I say thank you for listening to so much great music with an impact back then and perhaps now. THANKS!
One of the most beautiful songs ever! Neil Sedaka is a master singer/songwriter/pianist! You don't have to eat your slippers, harri because it did get to number one! 😂
Neil Sedaka is a great pop singer, pianist, composer & songwriter from the 50's-70's. He had lots of hits such as "Calendar Girl", "Breaking Up Is Hard To Do", "Next Door To An Angel", "Little Devil", "Bad Blood" etc. He wrote hits for other artists including "Stupid Cupid" (Connie Francis), "(Is This The Way To) Amarillo" (Tony Christie) & "Love Will Keep Us Together" (Captain & Tennille).
Oh my, I love Neil Sadaka. ❤ From Neil's 1974 album of the same name, this beautiful song, composed by Neil, with lyrics by the talented Phil Cody, is magical. Neil's addictive alto vocals, were often mistaken as a female, which he said sold more records to both sexes. Don't eat your slippers Harri, 😂😂 this song was Number 1 on the Billboard Hot 100's in 1975. The instrumention, including a Hammond organ, piano, guitars, beautiful strings, and the delightful sax solo by Jim Horn. Fabulous!! The chords under the "ooh" is a genius move that grabs your heart. Neil was an absolute staple in my youth, co-writing over 500 songs. Great reaction Harri. ❤❤ Great choice Imadrummin👏👏 Loved it. ❤ Cheers ftom Canada ❤❤🇨🇦🇨🇦
I was surprised only one other song by Neil Sedaka had been done on Harri's channel until now. I plan to sponsor at least one more Sedaka song very soon. Thank Mary for stopping in. 👍✌❤
He said the song was inspired by "The Blue- oooh -ooohs!" in Elton John's song Goodbye Yellow Brick Road". He loved that particular chord, and he kept playing the chord until he got a melody and then got a title, and then had Phil Cody write the lyrics around the music.
Elton John started a small record company in the early 70s, Rocket Records and I think he had Neil Sedaka on his label. Neil Sedaka has a great voice and made some beautiful music.
Billy Joel said that when he initially wrote the song "Movin' Out" he unconsciously stole the melody from laughter in the rain. He played the song for his band, and they said, "You just played the melody to "Laughter in the Rain!" and so Billy had to play around with the melody until he got it to where it is now.
Imadrummin - You took me back to '74-75 with this Sedaka classic. It doesn't matter how long it's been since I have heard it, as soon as it comes on I'm singing along word for word. Great song and selection!
Love this so much!!!! Makes me feel so happy and relaxed hearing this. What a great song Mr Sedaka!!!! I will always being playing this so until I die, it's wonderful. I could picture Carole King singing this it's sounds similar to her style of music with the piano and the sax. Please Harry listen to Jazzman and Hard Rock Cafe both songs from Carole, you will love them!!!
I remember this song from so long ago. As a teenage girl I always thought it was sung by a female. Imagine my surprise to discover it was a guy singing!
Pure pop perfection. Save your slippers Harri, this went to Billboard #1 in the U.S. in early 1975, and was probably a big hit in other countries around the world as well. Sedaka also went to #1 with his follow-up hit "Bad Blood," which featured vocal assistance from Elton John.
Elton John saved Sedaka's career, signed him to his new record label. He had not had a hot in 12 years due to the musical change in 1963-4 led by the Beatles. in 1975, suddenly new hits came pouring out like this and Solitaire, Bad Blood, a remake of Breaking Up is Hard To Do done as a slow ballad. Our 6 piece band during the college years used to cover an album song called One Night Stand, a rocker he wrote, and Bad Blood. Others covered his songs.
Brings me back to my early teens. The music was so great and so varied. "Saccharine" is the word you're looking for i believe Harri. Easy listening pop music. This song was all over the place. Sedaka was not on my "cool" list tho. Lol.
I’ve always been a little embarrassed that this is probably the first 45 I ever bought with earned money. Suddenly I don’t feel that way, embarrassed. I bought it when I was falling in love. 😢 PS: Bought “Alone Again (Naturally)” on the same day. Talk about yin and yang. Probably a bipolar phase, like most teenagers. 😝
other Neil sedaka songs of his comeback period-The Immigrant (about John Lennon),Bad Blood (with elton John) That's when The Music Takes Me, Breaking Up Is Hard To Do (slow version) and Should've Let Her Go with daughter Dara. Also had a great rocker in 1958 that's seldom heard-I Go Ape.
i think in those years if you were into progrock or hard rock, it was probably a mortal sin to like Neil Sedaka, except say at a wedding party with uncles and aunts
For the longest time I thought this was a lady singing. Never knew the his name until years later. Great song. And I don't want to know what's going on in your bathroom.
I was just a kid when this song was big. I honestly assumed it was a woman singing. No disrespect to Mr. Sedaka but am I the only one who thought that?
I think Neil Sedaka has been overlooked by reactors. He made some beautiful songs. His music crossed generations. You never have to wonder what he said. His lyrics are as ckear as a bell. From preteens to grandparents .Love his music.

Monster radio hit! Haven’t heard it in years, still know every word, every note.
