BenQ HT2050A Review - Is It The Best Projector Under $1000?

  • The BenQ HT2050A is the successor to the HT2050. Considering the success of the HT2050 I expected similar peformance out of the HT2050A. The HT2050A comes with the same body and all of the same features as the HT2050A but it comes with 2 additional features and a bonus. The first new feature is better input lag. The HT2050A has an input lag of 16.67ms vs the 33ms input lag of the HT2050. This is a huge plus for gamers and makes that one of the best projectors for gaming. This projector also has horizontal keystone correction, which was missing form the HT2050. And the bonus is that the HT2050A comes with a 3-Year Limited Warranty vs the 1-Year warranty on the HT2050. Overall, these are both great projectors and among the highest rated budget projectors on the market. The color accuracy is great and the projector has good brightness. The black levels are good but not as good as some more expensive projectors. It also has a great throw ratio that projects a 100" image from just 8.2ft.

    By far you have the best projector review videos on UA-cam! I have narrowed my choices down to the Benq HT2050a or the Optoma UHD50. Is it worth paying double the price to get a 4k projector or do you think the benq is a solid projector at half the cost. This will be my first projector so just wondering if I should pay the extra money and get a 4k. Thanks for all your information and awesome videos!

    • @ChrisMajestic

      Thanks. The ht2050a is a solid projector. If you're working with a tight budget then I recommend getting the 2050a and investing the rest of the money in a decent home theater audio system. If you're already happy with your sound system then 4k is a fantastic option. It really depends on how picky you are about clarity. 4k is definitely noticeable to me but if you watch mostly cable TV or non-4k movies then the ht2050a could be the better option.

    Hey Chris, thank you for the video. Im having a hard time choosing between the 2050a and the 2550. I had the uhd60 and was very underwhelmed. I didnt think it looked that much better than my W1070, which I sold. Ill be using the projector for 90% movies in a batcave dedicated theater. Does the image and features of the 2550 justify the extra $750?

    I just bought my HT2050A and tested it out. I noticed that when I project onto my wall and click the Eco Blank button (I assume this is to display a blank, black image), I see a greyish projector outline on my wall. I thought that the projector wouldn't output any light, and therefore produce a perfectly "dark" image(as dark as the room)? Let me know if this is inherent to DLP projectors, or what settings I need to adjust. Thanks!

    • @deejeemadrox1866

      The colors with this type will never be dull, it uses the color-enhancer wheel . Now, when you choose a model with RGBW wheel, you get more brightness and lesser bright colors.
      You can tell which wheel is used mostly, those with the color-enhancer wheel pumps out 2000+ ansi, the RGBW types pum 3000+ ansi. That is for DLP-type beamers.

      the answer is very simple; any 4K pixelshifter projector will show bleed on the edges. Any NON-pixel shifter projector will not bleed ;)
      No need to search for "bleed" on a fullHD projector (and below), as all of them are non-pixel shifters.

    Thanks for the review - looking at getting this model in the near future :) Any chance you are planning to also review the new updated version from Optoma as well - the HD143X ?
    Thats the other model I'm considering and these 2 seem to be the two most popular HD projectors for most people. Would be great if you could do a side by side compare. I hear the primary difference comes down to the Color wheel (RGBRGB vs RGBCWY) but yet to see a really good review that actually compares these (or their older versions) and their image quality properly in a way you can actually see for yourself.

    • @deejeemadrox1866
      @deejeemadrox1866 5 років тому

      @@cloam11 You can compare all you want but what it comes down to is this; Are you watching in dark rooms mainly the RGBRGB types have the upper hand. Do you watch mostly in a well lit room, or poorly dimmed, the RGBCWY is the winner , because >> more lumens (ansi) >> more brightness. In the dark, you don't need that much brightness, the better colors of the RGBRGB will show their strenght then.

      Looking for an answer to this as well. Anyone? Also curious to know which brand (strictly as a projector) is more reliable between > Optoma / BenQ / Epson? I've had an Optoma for years and the reliability of it has been fantastic. Never had a problem but it's starting to show its age now after 8 years of using it without any trouble. Wanted to get an Optoma again but keep seeing/reading reviews where the Epson Home cinema is ranked better than the Optoma.
      However, the terrible experience I've had in the past with Epson printers makes me very hesitant to go with an Epson branded projector. Any thoughts on any of this is super, super appreciated.

    Is this still a great projector under $1000 in 2019 or are there better options and I’m a bit worried about it being classified as a “short throw projector” because I’m planning on mounting mine on the roof in my room and I Don’t know the distance that a short throw should be compared to a normal one

    • @TheDearRecorded
      @TheDearRecorded 3 роки тому +1

      It makes a huge difference knowing where you can mount your projector and at what distance. Sometimes there are restrictions which only allow you to place it in a certain location in your room. Best would be to search for your model number + `throw distance calculator` and that should give you a very clear idea of what size image you would get at the distance you plan to project from. Was almos about to buy a projector but found out at the last minute that at the distance I plan to project the image, the image projected would go past the wall it was being projected on so definitely check on this! :o

    If you have like $700 or $800 get a used Epson 5030UB on Ebay just make sure you get a decent 30 day or more warranty , Not really a fan of any of DLPs and really didnt like the Warranty service from BenQ the couple times I had issues with them , But as DLPs go BenQ is the best

      They are very similar in image quality. The major difference is throw ratio

    I would love to buy a benq 4k projector, but my current benq projector (w1070) overheats with only 422 hours on it, I feel ripped off.

    • @ChrisMajestic
      @ChrisMajestic  6 років тому

      I think that issue was common on that particular model but I've had 3 BenQ projectors and never had an issue. I also have the Optoma UHD60, which I love

    • @ShaneTabaka
      @ShaneTabaka 6 років тому +2

      My 1075ht had the same issue with low hour use. I created a RMA with BenQ and they emailed me a shipping label. They covered the shipping, repairs, and return shipping. My unit was out of warranty as well, but they honored it. Most likely, one of your fans has failed and needs to be updated. Reach out to BenQ directly. They are located in in Chino, CA, so ground shipping time can take a little while. But, I'd say it was about 10 days in total to receive my project back. So far, it fixed all of my issues.

    I first watched some dummy drag on and on with the voice of a slumbering person, and the fool made a video almost 30 minutes long.

    Is it better than the Benq 3050 ?

    • @ChrisMajestic
      @ChrisMajestic  6 років тому +4

      The 3050 has more accurate color. The main benefit of the 2050A is the input lag and warranty.

      I had lots of 3D issues and Smart Eco flickering with the HT3050. HT2050a-NO ISSUES! Benq support was crap unfortunately. Only stuck with them cause 3 year warranty on this one and pics are great!

    does it feature auto keystone correction ?

    • @tripas421
      @tripas421 6 років тому +1

      Eyal Kobi no....and I'm having a super hard time getting a perfect square :( my right and bottom are in line with my screen, but my left from bottom up it goes inside like this / , and on my top from left to right it goes down like this \
      I'm having such hard time. I had an old autokeystone projector before and it aligned the projection really well, almost perfect.
      I also feel the project seems a bit dull/dim on the colors and brightness even on pitch Black room. I've had it for a week but I think I'm going to return it and try the Epson 2150. Right now it's on special for $699 on Epsons website, free shipping (previously $899), and they also have the Epson 3100 for $899 (previously $1200) but I don't have the money for that one lol.
      Anyways I think I might have to give the Epson 2150 a try.

      thank you for the detailed answer. in todays' world pf projectors , they are no longer static on the wall and more mobile , so my opinion is that auto keystone is a must!!
