Both these projectors sound great. But I need something with a longer throw ratio (92 inch from 2.5-3m), unfortunately both fall short. There’s the TK710(not STI). Is the same just with a different lens? Would this review apply to that model too or are there other differences? Also, is there a longer throw version of the x500i? The x3100i is a little out of my budget.
I’m in the same boat….probably going to get the 710. It’s weird because I have the TK700sti and the throw distance on that is longer than the 710sti. Weird. What did you end up going with and did you find any other differences between the 710 and 710sti?
I already purchased the BenQ x500i after your "Ultimate Gaming Projector" video and was wondering about the new BenQ 710 series and how it might compare to the x500i. It's like you were reading my mind and this shorter video covered just what I wanted to know, thanks so much! Can't believe how succinct and efficient you are in ALL your videos, just amazing. Interesting side note, I did my own in-person comparison with the Epson Home Cinema 3800 against the BenQ x500i and I was very surprised at how competitive the Epson was with the BenQ. Even though it is an older projector, it definitely held it's own and it ended up a tie for me, with my decision coming down to throw distance. Have you considered throwing the Epson HC3800 into the mix for the gaming and/or other $1,000-$2,000 projector comparisons?
I generally do not review bulb based projectors due to the fact that their performance degrades very rapidly in the first 500 hours of usage. I could test a projector with 20 hours and it could finish first, but the same projector at 520 hours could finish dead last.
@@thehookupextras Ahhhh, that does make sense and is understandable. Thanks for the reply. Does one of these projectors handle RBE better than the other? That factor would be the most critical to me as they seem very similar otherwise. Thank you so much for your thorough reviews. Nobody else on youtube is creating anything near their quality.

Online reviews/video/pictures make both look really good. Would probably be happy with either but still love to see side by side video comparison
But are really good. The tri laser on the c1 makes colors look more vibrant, but the x500i and tk710sti are more accurate and a bit easier to watch for extended periods of time.
Question about vertical offset with ceiling mounting. My fixed screen is pretty close to my basement ceiling. The BenQ TK710 has vertical shift only in 1 direction only down when ceiling mounting).with a 3” beginning offset. Think I’d have to reposition my screen for it to work without using any keystone. Can’t find info on Hisense C1 offset to keep from using keystone. How does the C1 have to be positioned vertically in relation to the screen to avoid using keystone?
Would you go with the regular throw version of the Benq tk 710 or the jmgo tri-laser projector? I hate that there are so many options but I’m just trying to get the best bang for my buck in overall performance.
One thing to consider is the speckle, a huge issue on the JMGO and it does not have the dynamic contrast of the Benq, although the native is very similar.
Great video! I'm interested in the TK710, and compared to a Viewsonic X1/X2-4K, do you find the BenQ quieter? The X1-4K was unfortunately too noisy for me
The X2 4K was in my gaming projector video on my main channel and performed similarly but slightly worse than the X500i: ua-cam.com/video/biXPgm-pxiU/v-deo.html
Thanks @thehookupextras i was holding up my decision to buy TK710 for your review, seriously. As there are not much info available. i want to mount tk710 at 13ft from the screen with 1.0 optical zoom level. i am planning to use 120'' ALR screen to reduce the ambient light of my living room. please suggest if tk710 is good for more than 100'' screen ? can i assume tk710STi quality to be exactly same as tk710 , or are you planning to review tk710 soon?
I'm not sure if the TK710 is the same as the 710STi in terms of performance. They certainly have the same software, light source, and DLP chip, but the optical block may generate slightly different brightness and contrast levels. I don't have an plans to review the TK710 at this time.

Awesome video!!! Glad you linked me this channel. Just wondering what you thought was a better option (home theatre wise mainly) between the TK710STi and the Hisense C1 since you have reviewed them both. Tossing up between them as both throw ratios work for me, trying to find out what looks better in a more dark environment - black levels, picture clarity etc I've also read that the TK710STi can look a little blurry in images above 100 inches, not sure if you have experienced anything like that? Thanks again!
I was recently testing the 710STi on my golf sim screen which is the equivalent of 204" diagonal... definitely not blurry. Hisense C1 has much better HDR color space coverage and dolby vision support, but the clarity of the TK710STi is better (and it has low input lag for gaming and 3D support)
Thank you for this amazing review! And +1 on the TK710 review request 🙏 Btw, how does the TK710STi compare to the Dangbei Mars PRO 2? (or at least the original Mars PRO in case you haven't tested the PRO 2). Thank you!
Question: Are you able to measure the lumen values between the cinema modes? I can never go by the bright mode on these models because they turn bright green so I just feel it’s a gimmick really. I noticed you gave the Nits, does that translate to lumens with a formula?
I'm copy/pasting a comment i did on reddit that concerns the TK710 "I would advise you to stay away from that projector for anything other than gaming. It has great brightness and nice contrasts, but there are way too many problems with it. I replaced my W2000 with it a few days ago and i will send it back shortly. The main problems i have with it is that RBE is way more present than before. (Too much for me, and i did not see it at all with my W2000). It is also not that silent, even in ECO mode it is noticeably noisier than the W2000, but that stays in a reasonable range so that is something i could have done with. And there is an awful amount of dithering on the image as soon as the projector runs at 24hz. Dithering is to be expected on a DLP, and it is very reasonable at 60Hz, but when it switches to 24Hz it becomes frankly unusable for me. So much that I am kind of surprised that virtualy no one is talking about it. It was not even adressed for one second in a comparison video i saw. So maybe I have a faulty model, but if not, believe me, you do NOT want to watch movies with it. It is just unusable. At that price point, you will have to make compromises, that's certain, but not being able to watch films without some crazy grain running all over the picture is a complete deal breaker for me. Besides that, color coverage is not great, but i was aware of that fact before buying. (that was the compromise I was ready to make ^^) For gaming it is really great though."
Is it safe to assume that the TK710 (normal long throw) version will have the same performance as a TK710STi short throw version? I can't really place such a short throw projector in my room, and I prefer the long throw version.. (as an added bonus it's even cheaper) But I couldn't find any good reviews on the TK710 (non-STi) version...
Hello I’m looking for a budget projector for a launch monitor in my shed? Yet to be built what would you recommend around £500? Quality production and explanations but still went right over my head lol.
Is there a rainbow effect? I'm on a Sony VPL HW-65ES SXRD and I really like that. However, the price point for 4K with DLP is hard to ignore. It would be a nice upgrade and I get off of using a bulb.
Thanks for the review. I got a new Benq x500i from BenQ for 1429. I have had it for less than 10 days. Do you think I should spend extra money and get 710sti? Is it really worth or X500i is 99% or whatever percentage you can say of 710sti? I use it in a light controlled environment and I am happy with the brightness of x500i has as I only use around 52%.
If you don't need/want the extra brightness there's no reason to upgrade from the X500i to the TK710STi unless the buzzing of the XPR motor on the X500i drives you nuts.
Question, by 52% are you referring to the “brightness’s setting? Does adjusting that to 100% actually keep the colors while increasing the lumens? I was under the impression the picture modes like bright, cinema, etc were the only things actually changing the lumen output, as that setting called brightness seems to just overlay a static white blend into the picture
Is the tk710sti a better overall as a home and gaming projector? I know you did a bunch of test as to wether or not projectors were calibrated for gaming given the specs and cost of various projects types in the video you linked. Since the x500i and x2-4k performed similar given their setups.. would the tk710sti perform similar or better in those test as a gaming projector? Found x500i on deal for 1349 and trying to decide over the 710sti.
If you don't need the extra brightness of the TK710 I think the x500i will have slightly less motion blur due to using a 4LED light source instead of a laser and color wheel.
Would it be safe to assume the tk710 would perform similar to the lx700-4k in motion blur compared to the x500i? @@thehookupextras I'm in a smaller room and currently use a halo+ at about 123". Looking into short throw this time around to get the projector out from behind the bed. Room is light controlled since Halo+ doesn't have a high ansi for the length required. Is it possible to have too much brightness? So torn between x500i and 710sti. Screen is a cinewhite uhd-b. I had a x3100i in the mix but at that price the 710sti looks like a better value.
I try not to speculate on projectors that I haven't tested. Both have the 0.65" chip and same laser light source. Optical blocks can make quite a bit of difference though.
Hi, what type of screen do you recommend for this kind of projectors (short throw)? I can't seem to figure out whether their image is super prone to distortions like in the case of UST if not accompanied by a properly tensioned screen or if they behave more like long throw projectors which can project with almost no noticeable distorsions on any decent screen (even non-tensioned ones) In any case, kudos to you and your hard work
Great video! I was wondering how this compares to the formovie x5? It definitely seems brighter and has better contrast plus the low input lag which is why im tempted to upgrade. But if the overall picture quality is worse because of lower color coverage or something like that Id just keep my X5.
I waited until the TK710STi came out, and I almost bought it, but I ultimately went with the x500i instead. While the increased brightness and contrast offered by the laser is appealing, I did not like the use of a color wheel as inherent to a single laser design. Single lasers are often touted to have similar or even greater longevity than LED, but the use of a color wheel means the presence of more moving parts, making it a substantially more complex system, which will inevitably fail sooner than a simpler system (such as LED or RGB Laser), which has less moving parts, assuming both are lacking defects from the factory. I have been very satisfied with my purchase- thank you for originally recommending the x500i!
Do you think HDR Pro also add up because it seems that it's only available on x500i. However, if you see around @2.20 in the video you can clearly see more details on the 710sti.
I don’t think the 710 has a colour wheel in the traditional sense. Afaik it’s blue laser, phosphor wheel to produce green and then a red LED? There’s not much information around though. From what I’ve seen the 710 has way less (even non-existent) RBE compared to its predecessor, so that’s why I’m thinking no colour wheel.
I have the Xgimi Z6 Polar, but i used it since 2019, 8 hours a day, "work from home". I notice that it's not as bright as before, but i cant measure it, it might be my brain trying to persuade me into buying the Jmgo N1... Should i?
Unfortunately I don't have a BENQ w2710i or Epson tw7100 so I can't comment on those. However, it's highly unlikely that the tw7100 would have better contrast since it doesn't have the UB filter and Epson's without it have relatively poor contrast.
@@thehookupextras since it is a lcd projector,it will have better contrast compared to similarly priced dlp ,right? Rtings also show the 7100 has better native contrast than dlp projectors. What is a ub filter?
No, LCD projectors don't automatically have better contrast than similarly priced DLP, it depends on the specific DLP chip (0.47" vs 0.65") and optical block of the projector. Many Epson LCD projectors have native contrast under 300:1, but they are designed for education and commercial use, so contrast is less important. Rtings projector reviews are bad currently. I'm sure they'll figure out how to review projectors eventually, but the system they have right now is horrible and is going to lead people to make terrible buying decisions. The UB filter is what makes the contrast on the Epson 5050UB and LS12000 better than the rest of their lineup.
@@thehookupextras because many dlp chips don't go above 1500:1 contrast ratio and lcd (ub6050) ,lcos projectors have better native contrast ratio. I thought lcd (above 1000$) projectors are better in black levels compared to dlp chip projectors like tk710 and w2710i . Rtings have changed their contrast ratio measurements and now also include 1 % apl native contrast ,right? So that would help to gauge the black levels, right? Also could you suggest the best projector in this range(1000-2500$)? For a dark room theater. Many new chinese(dangbei, formovie, xgimi etc) projectors don't have optical lens shift and may not be good value for home theatre for deep blacks and sharpness, right?
Again, the high contrast ratio of the 6050UB, 5050UB and LS12000 are due to the UB filter, not the 3LCD tech. LCoS projectors (JVC, Sony) are also not inherently higher contrast, they just happen to have significantly higher quality optics. The trap you are falling into is like saying "Sedans are faster than trucks", and while it may be true that some sedans are faster than trucks, the fact that they are a sedan or a truck is not the thing that makes them faster or slower. All my contrast measurements are done using 1% apl to avoid light source blanking. Do you need lens shift and zoom? If you can put your projector in the right mounting location you can get away with no having those features.
While I play shooters casually and also enjoy movies on a 120 inch screen I wonder if the HT4550i is worth the higher price compared to the TK710STi? Especially interested in the black luminance of both under the same conditions and how the contrast compares. I‘ve seen a review you did on th HT and I wonder if its blacks are really that much worse than the TK?
The contrast on the TK710STi is actually higher than the HT4550i. The advantages of the 4550i are: 1) Wide Color Gamut (WCG) filter for 100% DCI-P3 coverage 2) Vertical and horizontal lens shift 3) MEMC/Trumotion and 24p mode
I had the 4550i and x500i, I would recommend getting this710STi. The blacks were pretty poor on the 4550i. I felt the picture wasn't as good and you are paying more. If the 710STi is basically the X500i but better, that's a win.
From ur other video do u think this will perform similar to viewsonic lx700 laser. Bcz u completely discarded it in motion blur where lx700 added weird lines in ufo test. If this will be the same case in tk710sti. Then i will get the 1600$ deal on x500i
Has anyone compared the X500i to the optoma uhz55? I'm leaning towards the uhz55 but it always seems benq projectors have better contrast & black levels, it's mainly for gaming.
Hi. I watch only 1080p content in darkness , I'm thinking x500i . How is fan noise rekaticr to other projectors on eco mode for 1080p? I know the hdr is noisy but I won't use that for Movies.
does 1440p@120hz mode on these 0.65" chip projectors do anything for the sharpness, text clarity, texture details, edge antialiasing, or is it just downscaled to 1080p anyway?
It's not downscaled, but the resolution is kind of strange because it's generated with 2x diagonal pixel shifting. I personally don't think it offers any more clarity than 1080p.
@@thehookupextras it seems to be already available in Europe under a different name, ViewSonic V704K. LX700-4K RGB / V704K and Acer HL6810 (ATV) currently look like the best sub $2K projectors on the market, would love to see them compared with the rest of the bunch you already reviewed.

Those contrast numbers are better than the formovie theater! That doesn't make sense to me. This gaming projector is better than a UST theater projector? I'm told UST are a pain to setup. BenQ is smaller and cheaper too. Is the 710STi better in every way? Something seems off.
Dynamic contrast is different than native contrast, but seems to be well implemented in the TK710STi. Native contrast on the Formovie Theater and Nexigo Aurora Pro is around 3500:1 with dynamic contrast reaching into the 5000:1-6000:1 range (on the Nexigo, Formovie doesn't have dynamic black mode). Nexigo/Formovie also support Dolby Vision which the TK710STi does not. It does appear to be a phenomenal projector for $2000 though.
Movie theaters are legally not able to get those contrast numbers for fire and safety reasons. Short throw projectors save money on the lens by having little shift. They are easy to set Up?
I want to replace my 65" Oled tv with a projector for a bigger screen at least 120 inches, but for almost one year, I can't make a decision. Please help me . - the picture quality needs to be best for netflix movies. - good for PS5 , high refresh rate and low input lag - budget 3k I know nothing can replace Oled technology but biger from 65 inches are crazy expensive.
I don't think I've seen anything reviewed that has the contrast ratio of the TK710STI under $3000. 0.03 nits black floor and 5700:1 contrast is crazy. You would probably like that one the most coming from an OLED.
Interesting. Those that don't already have the X500i, the TK710STi looks nice considering how much more compact it is. What about speaker quality though? The TK710 looks Mono? The x500i has Stereo speakers that get surprisingly loud and good quality for built-in speakers. Granted people serious about audio will use their much better stereo systems anyway. But for casual use it's nice to not have to use external speakers. Also wonder if the bigger size of the x500i helps with cooling or if the TK710STi is more efficient for it's size. Nice reviews as always. 👍
Speaker quality is definitely better on the X500i, which is where a lot of the extra size and even weight probably come from. If you don't need/want the extra brightness there's no reason to upgrade from the X500i to the TK710STi unless the buzzing of the XPR motor on the X500i drives you nuts.
I have a BENQ HT3050 and looking to upgrade for both daytime picture improvement and 4K movies at night. Narrowed down to the TK710 and the X3100i but leaning towards TK710.
Can we have a BENQ X500i, X3100i , TK710STi comparison video ??
I compared the X500i and X3100i in this video: ua-cam.com/video/biXPgm-pxiU/v-deo.html
Thanks for the review! are these projectors suitable for movie viewing as 4K projectors?
Yes, if you need short throw these work great for movies.
@@thehookupextras What are the recommended settings for a mid bright bedroom? I also use an Apple TV 4K with it I am confused. It is my first projector, it has 4K Upscaling On. Awesome video!!! Glad you linked me this channel.
Just wondering what you thought was a better option (home theatre wise mainly) between the TK710STi and the Hisense C1 since you have reviewed them both.
Tossing up between them as both throw ratios work for me, trying to find out what looks better in a more dark environment - black levels, picture clarity etc
I've also read that the TK710STi can look a little blurry in images above 100 inches, not sure if you have experienced anything like that?
Thanks again!
I was recently testing the 710STi on my golf sim screen which is the equivalent of 204" diagonal... definitely not blurry.
Hisense C1 has much better HDR color space coverage and dolby vision support, but the clarity of the TK710STi is better (and it has low input lag for gaming and 3D support)
Thank you for this amazing review! And +1 on the TK710 review request 🙏
Btw, how does the TK710STi compare to the Dangbei Mars PRO 2? (or at least the original Mars PRO in case you haven't tested the PRO 2). Thank you!
Mars pro 2 doesn’t have anywhere near the contrast of the 710sti.
Hey man what do you think of the BenQ x300G???
Will the Vividstorm obsidian floor rising screen work well with this? Or go with a Matt white or grey screen? I see u used a white screen
Yes, the obsidian floor rising screen works fine for everything except triple laser projectors.
Question: Are you able to measure the lumen values between the cinema modes? I can never go by the bright mode on these models because they turn bright green so I just feel it’s a gimmick really. I noticed you gave the Nits, does that translate to lumens with a formula?
It's about 1800lm on the TK710STi and 1150lm on the X500i in Cinema mode.
I'm copy/pasting a comment i did on reddit that concerns the TK710
"I would advise you to stay away from that projector for anything other than gaming.
(that was the compromise I was ready to make ^^)
For gaming it is really great though."
Wats your thoughts on benq x300g for movie watching and occasional gaming .
Is there something with comparable performance to the x500i that exchanges the short throw for a lower price?
Not that I’m aware of
how about tk710's DCIP3 coverage
Is it safe to assume that the TK710 (normal long throw) version will have the same performance as a TK710STi short throw version?
I can't really place such a short throw projector in my room, and I prefer the long throw version.. (as an added bonus it's even cheaper)
But I couldn't find any good reviews on the TK710 (non-STi) version...
When is it most appropriate to use the dynamic light source mode? Night or day time?
Do you find any strange effects while using this mode?
Both of the dynamic modes are well implemented, but I think the X500i may be a bit better. Dynamic contrast works best in a dark room.
Do you believe the TK710 would be comparable to your review on the TK710STI? The TK710 would work better for my room
I try not to speculate on projectors that I haven't tested. Both have the 0.65" chip and same laser light source. Optical blocks can make quite a bit of difference though.
@@thehookupextras can we please review the TK710 vs. the x500i and X3100i or similar. Thanks!
Hi,
what type of screen do you recommend for this kind of projectors (short throw)?
I can't seem to figure out whether their image is super prone to distortions like in the case of UST if not accompanied by a properly tensioned screen or if they behave more like long throw projectors which can project with almost no noticeable distorsions on any decent screen (even non-tensioned ones)
In any case, kudos to you and your hard work
Short throw projectors will work with almost any screen. Ultra short throws are the ones that need special screen considerations.
@@thehookupextras thanks man, appreciate it
@@thehookupextras do they even work well on retractible screens that aren't tab-tensioned? Thanks!
Great video! I was wondering how this compares to the formovie x5? It definitely seems brighter and has better contrast plus the low input lag which is why im tempted to upgrade. But if the overall picture quality is worse because of lower color coverage or something like that Id just keep my X5.
The X5 is quieter (fan and XPR noise), has MUCH better internal speakers, and a sleeker overall look. Everything else on the 710STi is better.
@@thehookupextras thank you!
Should i?
tk710 better tthan w4000i ?
Please please please, 🙏 ibeg you , please compare this with your lifestyle projectors and see where it ranks
Thanks
tk710sti vs benq w2710i vs epson tw7100( 3800) for dark room theater setup? does Epson have better sequential contrast?
I've got an older HT3550 for 4K content, and a TH685 for gaming, it looks like a TK710 could replace them both.
The advantages of the 4550i are:
1) Wide Color Gamut (WCG) filter for 100% DCI-P3 coverage
2) Vertical and horizontal lens shift
3) MEMC/Trumotion and 24p mode
@@thehookupextras and HDR 10+ apparently
I had the 4550i and x500i, I would recommend getting this710STi. The blacks were pretty poor on the 4550i. I felt the picture wasn't as good and you are paying more. If the 710STi is basically the X500i but better, that's a win.
How does tk710 fair against say the x3000i?
The tk710 is much better than the x3000i. I prefer x500i to the X3000i, twice the contrast.
@ the tk710 is the way to go then it seems.
The tk710 how does compare to w1060?
A massive upgrade from the w1060.
The actual fan is very quiet, it’s just the xpr motor that is noisy.
does 1440p@120hz mode on these 0.65" chip projectors do anything for the sharpness, text clarity, texture details, edge antialiasing, or is it just downscaled to 1080p anyway?
It's not downscaled, but the resolution is kind of strange because it's generated with 2x diagonal pixel shifting. I personally don't think it offers any more clarity than 1080p.
Great review 👏 Does anyone know what settings are needed for 1080 @ 240hz for ps5 and benq tk710 ? cant find them anywhere
I don't think the PS5 supports 240hz. Only PC gaming currently supports 240hz.
This looks great, I only need a review of the ViewSonic lx 700 rgb vs benq 710. I’ve narrowed down to that and would love to see side by side
LX700 RGB is not getting a global release last time I heard so I won't be reviewing it.
@@thehookupextras it seems to be already available in Europe under a different name, ViewSonic V704K.

They are easy to set

@@rickflare6893What? There are multiple Christie and other movie theater projectors that have this contrast.
I want to replace my 65" Oled tv with a projector for a bigger screen at least 120 inches, but for almost one year, I can't make a decision. Please help me .
- the picture quality needs to be best for netflix movies.
- good for PS5 , high refresh rate and low input lag
- budget 3k
I know nothing can replace Oled technology but biger from 65 inches are crazy expensive.
I don't think I've seen anything reviewed that has the contrast ratio of the TK710STI under $3000. 0.03 nits black floor and 5700:1 contrast is crazy. You would probably like that one the most coming from an OLED.
The noise output is a bit of a downer.

I use an Xbox series X for all my smart features and have a 7.1 receiver based sound system.
Am I on the right track with the TK710? Will it be a noticeable upgrade from the HT3050?
Definitely pick the 710 over the 3100. Both will be noticeable upgrades from the 3050 (especially in terms of brightness and vibrancy).
@@thehookupextras Thanks for the reply! This is super helpful. Just a quick follow up question if possible - does the TK710 have better (or comparable) black levels than the HT4550i? Contrast ratio comparable?
Received my TK710 and it’s great, but noticing the blacks are not quite as deep as my prior setup. Curious if switching the “light source mode” to dynamic impacts the darks/contrast compared to staying on normal… seems to kind of fade in and out of the dynamic effect to me.
I currently have a white projector screen so I may also consider a grey or ALR since my setup is not completely light restrictive. Appreciate any guidance!
