    Kid Cosmic really gives me the vibes that it’s summer, you’ve just finished running around outside, now you’re sitting on the floor in front of the fan in a hot sunny day, you’re a child and you collected all the comics for a certain series and you’re reading all of them in one sitting.
    It’s oddly specific but I feel this way whenever I watch KC, it really had a unique and warm vibe.
    I will and always love this show ‼️‼️

    I had no idea that the show used puppet animation! I was surprised since it looked hand drawn. They did an amazing job at bringing the characters to life with the selection of frames and puppet animation, and I appreciate the breakdown. This’ll help me learn more animation skills for sure

      That’s awesome to hear! Yeah it’s definitely one of the prettiest puppeted shows ever, and that’s probably in part to having a legendary director and amazing poses on the characters that definitely take some of the clunkiness away from puppet animation like switching between drawings/symbols

      It is a little wild that something like kid cosmic did come out because I've been trying to figure out how to make characters bouncy swift and energetic but struggle with making them look faster than everyone else, the analysis of this show really helped me realize I can make an energetic fast character by strangely enough doing very rare in-between frames instead of every quick movement they do

      I think if it was released on Cartoon Network / paramount plus instead of Netflix it might have been talked about more commonly, but it also seems like they were given a lot of freedom and trust, so the quality and popularity might be connected in some odd ways. Thanks for watching, I really appreciate it, and if there’s any shows or topics you’re interested in I’d love to know and to see you around on future videos!

    My mind is blown how little views this has. I thought i was just early when i watched this initially at under 40 views, but this channel is actually just underrated!
    This video is so interesting and informative. Without this video, i never would've realized the animation to this show was limited or puppet animation, simply because the actual show is so fluid, dynamic and engaging.
    (I've noticed maybe a quirk or two but i thought it was a result of the chosen comic-like style, not actually because they reduced the frames!)

    Kid cosmic is easily my favourite show and I cant believe I hadn’t stumbled upon this video until now. It pointed out so many things I hadn’t previously thought so much about. I’ve always loved not only Kid’s poses in the show but everyone else’s, they do such a good job at showing character personality through posing. For example in the Kid and Jo clip you posted, the way Jo more eases up into her pose while kid immediately jumps upwards with nothing in between.
    I did notice these clips are all from season one though. Did you watch the other two? Amazing stuff

  • @LawrenceAaronLuther

    Thank you for the great and thorough analysis. I had no idea this show even existed, but I'm glad all my searching about frame rates on YT led the algo to recommend this channel. This video in particular was very interesting as I animate exclusively on 8fps, as in, that's the framerate I have my program (Blender's Grease Pencil) set to, so even if I wanted to have a frame on "twos" or "ones" I can't do it. Sometimes it's really tricky for faster actions, but it's fun to try to figure it out. For example, when I tried animating a run using 4 frames, there simply wasn't enough info to trick the eye into seeing the limbs actually moving, and 6 frames would create motion but it was just a little too slow for a run, so I made a lop-sided 5 frame run with unconventional posing and it actually was believable and looks symmetrical (kind of). I could send a short video if you're interested.
    Another great watch for lower framerate goodness is the 3D animated "ONI" on Netflix. Just beautiful posing, staging, and snappiness.
    Oh, and as if I wasn't already enjoying the video enough, you treated us to some Frappe Snowland.

    • @Colby2D
      @Colby2D  9 місяців тому +1

      Thank you I’m glad you liked it! I would say for the blender issue I’m always happy to try and help, is your frame rate being 8 fps intentional? If not, you could move it to 24 fps and just hold the majority of your drawings for 3 frames each, giving the illusion of 8 fps, but occasionally only holding a drawing for 1 or 2 frames when needed. Otherwise I’d say you would have to be clever about your posing, speeds, and incorporating smears to give the illusion of speed. If you have any questions feel free to let me know!

    • @LawrenceAaronLuther
      @LawrenceAaronLuther 9 місяців тому +1

      @@Colby2D Thank you for the reply, as for the framerate it's simply a self-imposed limitation. I started out spacing the frames out like you said for "3s," but I've saved tons of time just using 8fps, not to mention in a digital world with endless possibilities limitations can be a godsend for creativity.
      The only time I have to work around it is when the BG is moving because 3fps can be a little too "strobe-like." I still do the characters on 3s, the BG on 2s for less strobe, and composite them in a file with their lowest common denominator 24fps.

  • @Cyynapse
    @Cyynapse 8 місяців тому +2

    i honestly feel animating on 2s and 3s with puppet animation is the best way to do it, if you do tweened anims on 1s/24fps it just looks kinda weird to me

    17:44 And it also loses it sense of weight and effort from the character doing that action.
    Another flaw of animation in 1s is that the brain would process the movement as well since 1 frame = 1 drawing, so the brain have 59th of a second to process the image before new one take it place.
    Imagine the Naruto vs Momosuki exchange was in 60fps. Interpolated or otherwise.
