I sang this song for Solo and Ensemble and received an Excellent when I was a Senior in High School. I'm more of a Musical Theatre singer(I'll be a MT major when I transfer colleges) I took voice lessons back in Middle School and I learned a lot of Italian Songs in High School. For me, it was difficult to sing in Italian and I eventually do want to learn more.
My vocal teacher gives this song to literally every one of her students, including me. Wow, I can see why. This song is so gorgeous. Cecilia does this song absolute justice.
I bet every voice student has been assigned this art song. I have accompanied hundreds of students in their performance of this beautiful melody. Never gets boring for me.
The balance of the piano accompaniment with her exquisite vocal range is bloody magnificent. Love all the comments below, but what blows my mind in this version is the amazing delicacy of her pianissimo. Anyone can sing loudly, but true genius to sing with such clarity so so softly. Bless our Heavenly Father for Cecilia's supreme talent.
Cecelia will be caonized and elevated to sainthood. Except she is not trying for sainthood. She is.just doing her thing as a true artist. Aiming for the bedt she can do and achieving perfection. . . cho cho san is a writer in phpenix az
I love how she smiles at the end of everything - she almost looks surprised, and certainly delighted, at the applause. What a wonderful woman she seems to be.
I don't care what her facial expressions. When you sing with that level of perfection, both technically and emotionally, you can do whatever expressions you like.
Caro mio ben Credimi almen, Senza di te Languisce il cor, Caro mio ben, Senza di te Languisce il cor. Il tuo fedel So spira ognor. Cessa, crudel, Tanto rigor! Cessa, crudel, Tanto rigor, Tanto rigor! Caro mio ben Credimi almen, Senza di te Languisce il cor, Caro mio ben Credimi almen, Senza di te Languisce il cor.
I remember singing this for my Grade 2 exam and thinking it was a simple enough piece. Now, after watching this, I can see that it was foolish of me to think that I was singing it even remotely well and doing it any justice at all. This is divine.
Auditioning this piece for solo ensemble and this is probably perfect for practicing with. She sings with such emotion and intensity and her diction is soooo clear when she sings the pianissimo parts. I LOVE IT!!!
How in the world does she achieve that delicate, floating pianissimo? Seriously asking here, from all you beautifully trained singers, as an only intermittently trained, but very enthusiastic amateur. What do you do to begin learning to create and support pianissimo singing? Don't worry--I know Ms. Bartoli's level is far beyond my (or most people's) ability to get near, but I've found in my area of performing that it's best to really attend to and try to learn from the best (while, of course, letting your own creative interpretation blossom, rather than simply copying). I do love singing this song, but with her version forever inscribed on my heart and mind, my own is just not very exciting...not that that stops me.
My advice is to feel the melody when you hear it and not just listen to it, if you catch what I mean. You'll notice her hand is touching the piano in the video at points. You sort of feel more connected. I'm by far no pro in fact I'm learning this piece in my lessons but that's what I try to do. course practice is major. Cecilia here has been singing since she came out of the womb since both of her parents were pro singers. Her 1rst performance was at 8. I don't know when this was recorded but she's been singing for 20+ years :)
AvalonMorley Little late here I guess. My advice would be to make sure you're singing on the breath and sending it as high up as you can. It should feel like the sound is floating above you, not in you. Completely relax your jaw muscles and minimize to only the muscles needed. Most of all, just feel it. You know what you want to acheive, so just trust that your voice can do it. Don't think about it too much, as that actual subconsciously engages unnecessary muscles. Just relax, breathe, open, and send. :)
Pianissimo is the hardest dynamic of classical singing (I'm a university tenor student). The singer must first master the singing and breathing techniques, than slowly train his breathing to achieve perfect control even when singing PP, and further train his vocal cords/folds to "soften" them. Singing PP is only achieved by "la crème de la crème". It's not given to anyone, no matter how hard some people train. Keep the dream alive! ;)
It's exactly the same as fortissimo singing. You just take the voice off. The breathing and support remain the same. Simple. If you have a technique you can rely on, trust it. There is no difference. Thinking there is creates a psychological problem with soft singing.
Discovered this aria through Beyoncé's brilliant new album and absolutely had to research the original! This interpretation is so delicate and sensitive! It sounds very technical and hard to achieve too with such precision and intent behind each word and emotion rendered in the vocalisation. I didn't know this composer before researching this, so I don't know how much of the writing and how much of the interpretation are to thank in this incredibly nuanced performance, but I'm in love with this! It's been a while since I last dove back into classical music and this might just have pulled me back in. It's absolutely beautiful!
No hay nadie que hace lo que Cecilia logra con su voz especialmente cuando suspende las notas con una delicadeza que es notablemente conmovedora. GRACIAS Cecilia, simplemente hermosa.
My vocal coach taught me this aria when I was eleven. Twenty years later and it still brings tears to my eyes. My favorite aria ever! Her facial expressions match the tone and meaning of the song. This was beautiful!!
She is amazing... she has such control, but her sound still comes across so effortlessly released. I love her voice and really admire her. Her dynamics take my breath away...
I agree with you. Perhaps if they knew the translation they would realize how connected she is to the lyrics. Her facial expressions are reflective of each lyric of this tender petition for love.
I'll give Ms. Bartoli a 'thumb up' but do not like the fact that the piano is not in tune with the way a voice hears the intervals (listen to the WOW WOw wow as the last dissonant chord fades [should be consonant]) and that the composer has to write the melody in the accomp. along with the soprano. What was the problem then: Did he not trust his sopranos could carry a tune?
You're wrong. Sorry, but as long as she's visible, the expressions are part of the performance and ANYTHING which distracts is NOT good. Also, if she NEEDS to contort her face to produce the tones we hear, something is equally wrong.
A Person It’s not all bad so you cant say that there are some really beautiful new artist, and guess what these new “junk” sounds your hearing aren’t junk, you all are, for being so pitiful to not think about the future and setting your views on one style of music, and critiquing stuff that you don’t like, unaware of the artist themselves feelings

Talking about "tenerezza" (tenderness) --Bartoli is marvelous. This is the Teatro Olimpico by Andrea Palladio in beautiful Vicenza (provincia veneta) in Italy. Wow! Three greats: Palladio, the song, and Cecilia Bartoli! Qualcosa di speciale!
Thank you! Finally someone mentions this because so many people are saying they are ugly. She is showing her emotions and feelings because the man will not listen to her, and she wants him to believe her. Her heart is longing for him.
i think that there is a point where a person is just so talented that it doesn't matter what they look like, they will always be considered beautiful. she lives and breathes music and puts everything she has into every performance and it's wonderful.
I am learning this aria right now to work on my upper range. It's helped me get to a high A and now my teacher thinks I may be a soprano instead of a mezzo.... It is getting into my blood and I love it! It's fascinating to hear different qualities in different great singers.... good luck everyone who's working on this aria!
I've come back to this video over and over again over the past 10 years, and I never grow tired of it. Her interpretation of this piece absolutely *DRIPS* with the most rich and decadent emotion. It's such a common aria that's been performed countless times by vocal students all over the world and yet Bartoli demonstrates such deep respect for the piece and its author. She makes it all her own to such a degree you'd swear you'd never heard it sung before. In fact, in some ways I prefer her interpretation of Caro Mio Ben over Pavarotti's. I know the term "Master Class" gets thrown around the internet so much it's become clichè, but, in my humble opinion, Cecilia Bartoli's performance here is an absolute *Master Class* in vocal performance. Even if you don't agree her performance is a "Master Class," then surely you'll agree that she is most undoubtedly *WORLD CLASS.*
Aw, she sings straight from the soul, it's beautiful! As someone who has also sang this song, I really have to compliment this performance. I love Bartoli, such power and grace.
This is so beautiful. I am singing this in a concert soon and wanted to hear a recording. She doesn't just make it beautiful with her voice but with her feeling. She understood the song and showed it in her face, making us believe it. Amazing. Absolutely amazing.
My mam is such a big fan of her and her version of this song. At 1:54 where she seamlessly goes from "tanto rigor" to "caro mio ben" without taking a breath blows my mind every time
Lo ha fatto di nuovo! Per un attimo ho pensato che il mondo sia fatto solo di delicatezza, che la vita sia una carezza sulle piaghe e che la morte sia una elegante e consolatoria signora. Grazie
This is the business. It is the best performance out here on you tube. The rest you can keep. She captures the painful elegance of this emotionally desperate yet sensuous song. Bravo!
I was listening to her perform Voi Che Sapete (most likely from the same concert) as I was assigned the piece in vocal class, and then I stumbled across this one day. She truly had me at that first line, singing with such delicate emotions and fine control of breath and delivery. Her voice and the piano accompaniment together felt so gentle that I felt like I had to hold my breath to not disturb the music! Thank you for yet another legendary performance :")
@@laulago3771beyoncé is not obligated to do the same thing as the classical singers do! She's not a classical singer but a pop/r&b/soul singer who used her classical training in a song and she's doing very well. Why yall want her song sound fully like this? Lol use your brain please.

I think it interesting to observe that many comments are dealing solely about Ms. Bartolis facial expression. To me, it's a proof, that "the rest" leaves no room for discussions: it's just perfect. I don't mind her naturalness at all. I love and admire her. She brings some freshness and relaxedness into the sometimes a bit stiff classical attitude. A. from Switzerland
the first song I heard that made me fall in love with her. I first read an interview in Vanity Fair about her. "I will wait ten years to do Carmen," she said. That was 1991? 92? I went out and bought her cd with this on it without ever hearing her voice. I will never regret my choice. I got to meet her in April 1994. Sweet, funny, and kind. A lovely woman and a great memory. Sometimes, music just finds you. Her mother, Silvana, did great work. One of my favorite mezzos.
Without a doubt the most talented singer male or female in the world. When the great Pavarotti passed away, Cecelia took over the number one spot. She is beyond talented. She is with god's grace. She has all the qualities that singers would like to have.
I have to perform this for class in two weeks. When the voice teacher introduced me to the song and got me practicing it she explained what the Italian meant and what the song was about and honestly it’s beautiful. The song is gorgeous, the meaning is beautiful and the anguish you can hear in the singer is astounding.
I wish the whole video was focused on her. As beautiful as the venue is, her full artistic interpretation (as well as facial features) would have been nice to witness.
Most college voice majors view this an "easy song." My mentor told me, "Singing a song and singing it well are two different things".
+Mark Carpenter easy? Hahahaha. Nope.
Erin Bullock it's easier then others in its genre that's why it's deemed as easier

As DELICATE AND GENTLE AS A WISP OF FEATHER ALOFT AND FLOATING DOWN TO EARTH. THANK YOU CECELIA. . . . CHO CHO SAN IS A WRITER LIVING IN PHOENIX AZ
She gives a sense of "holiness" to this song. And this must be the 1000th time I'm listening to it and I'm still welling up...
No one can deliver technique and emotion like Cecilia. A native Italian singing in Italian makes all the difference for the vowels as well.
the 411 dislikes can’t sing or they had their phones upside down 😂 this is beautiful!
i know nothing about opera but even i know how UNBELIEVABLY DIFFICULT it is to sing so softly but with so much quiet POWER!! AMAZING!!
❤simply beautiful.😍 anyone else here because you heard this on Beyonce’ new Cowboy Carter album?
This piece is sublime, deep, beautiful, and so is Cecilia and her sound. Amazing, outstanding, I cannot describe...
Who else is here because of their singing teacher?
I have to perform this for class in two weeks. When the voice teacher introduced me to the song and got me practicing it she explained what the Italian meant and what the song was about and honestly it’s beautiful. The song is gorgeous, the meaning is beautiful and the anguish you can hear in the singer is astounding.
My friend said she sounded like Clarabelle Cow... were not friends anymore
I haven't heard Beyoncé's album, but im so glad that it woke this up in the youtube algorithm, and brought it to me. ❤❤❤
You're an angel❣ had tears in my eyes
🎼🎶🎶🎶🎶✨✨✨✨
Sempre eccellente, sensibile, raffinata Cecilia 🍀👍
Beyoncé most definitely brought me here and I’m so glad she did.
si ti amo cecilia. I performed Caro at a music festival and recieved 1st place, and all because of exposure to cecilia!! Thank you you are so amazing
I wish the whole video was focused on her. As beautiful as the venue is, her full artistic interpretation (as well as facial features) would have been nice to witness.
Thank you for posting this compilation of my heart's only diva.
