People, people... people!!! You know the journey I'm going on with Prince, and so far it's been amazing to discover him with all of you! But THIS... '1999' album is something else, entirely!!!

Man, the more I listen to this album, the higher I rank it on the list. Funky, catchy, creative, and never, ever plays it safe (which is what distinguishes him from his other peers at the time). Amazing stuff... ❤🔥

EDIT: I told you to start with "1999" and "Little Red Corvette" (when he first started to gain mainstream success) and I'm SO HAPPY that you've now decided to go back to the VERY beginning. There are NO WORDS for how much I'm looking forward to watching you blush when you get to "Dirty Mind" (the third album) 😆😁.

Also check out "do yourself a favor" by 94 east, a band prince orginally was in. He was 15yrs old playing the bass in 94east

The 1999 tour is on you tube. You can search prince concert 1982/83 it's a mix of controversy and 1999 material. Albums were bout a year apart

Hi Luke! It's so much fun listening to this with you! Seeing someone discover these songs fresh makes me remember when I 1st heard them. The synthesizer on Delirious is quirky and fun and used to make me laugh. DMSR was our anthem! If I could only have one album, this would be it! Not only being a double album full of insanely, funky tunes it holds sentimental value for me. The 1999/Triple Threat Tour was my favorite concert experience!

Thank you for going through this album! I first heard Prince when I was in middle school in '79..his first album. We knew he was star then. You're going to see the different stages he went through. Just a pure genius, and I don't throw that word around. You're a joy to watch, keep going!

I've been a Prince fan since 1978, blessed to have seen him live 5 times. Best concerts ever. Played the shit out of 1999 album. My favs still are 1999 which will be played at my funeral lol but true, International Lover and DMSR which he performed in most of his concerts. Look for live performances. 1999 is such a massive vibe. It’s the closest to a “dance” album Prince ever made. No bad songs on it. It’s a classic. It was fun watching you listen to this for the very first time and i hope you review more Prince albums in the future! The Purple Journey is Incredible!!! 💜💜💜

Great reaction Sir. Unbelievable to think that early cassette tape versions of 1999 in the UK omitted the song DMSR, simply because losing that song meant they could put it on a cheaper cassette that had less running time. Sacrilege!
I know I am late to this party but...when 1999 was originally released D.M.S.R. was not on the album because it would not fit on the vinyl. It was not available until the album was later released on CD. Though you could get it as a single. I collected nearly everything Prince released up to the love symbol album

He played All The Critics a lot... and sing All the Critics love you in ... London, or wherever...etc.
Obviously he played 1999 and LRC a lot too.
Go back in time and please review his Dirty Mind album then be funky

I agree with you. All The Critics Love You In New York, and Something In The Water (Does Not Compute) are my least favorite songs on this album. The funny this is though that Prince performed them differently when he did them live. So different in fact that they become my favorite songs from this album when he does them live. Genuinely surprised for the dislike of Something in the water. That song is pure genius which is perhaps a difficult first listen, but it definitely grows on you the more you listen.

So glad you did the entire album! Videos usually detract from the music and they're edited down to 3 minutes. A travesty!
