You have no idea the volcano hole (not rabbit hole...it's too small) you're about to go down with Prince. If you're going to do this, I suggest you start at the beginning so you can see his growth and genius from the beginning to the end. He played 25+ instruments. Think about what you are listening to, and Prince LAYERING in EACH instrument and vocals (No autotunes), showing the band members his vision and all of them laying down tracks. Absolute GENIUS! Yes...he's doing what you think to the cab driver 🤔!!!!! Peace...Be and Stay Safe!

And an extra tip- for each album, ask your subs what non-hits you should listen to. LCD is a perfect example of a song most people would miss in doing a selection reaction from 1999.

So true. I feel proud of the youth hearing Prince now & trying to absorb his music. For people like me, it was part of my childhood so it was second nature to me. Then from the point on, no one compared to him. His early music is so important to (re) visit in order to understand his later music. F**king genius

      YES>>>this comment!!!
As I mentioned on this channel about 4 months ago...you gotta lotta party to go! If you really wanna get a feel for 'the roots and fruits' of Prince and some deeper cuts, check out Purple Current. The purple hour runs twice a day (all Prince), and the rest is the best of the best...music Prince influenced or was influenced by. Everything from (real) hip hop, jazz, oldies, indies, icons, and all the other good stuff in between.

It's one thing to have a voice but to be able to play all the instruments and not have outside producers and writers .....please stop thinking that him and Michael Jackson were competitors...never...prince was on a whole other level than mike...no disrespect to Mike he was talented in his own right. You said something then. All facts. I really didn’t feel the song Purple Rain like that until the concert and the movie. The movie really put the lyrics in context for me. Let’s Work, Get Off, DMSR, Scandalous, International Lover, Adore, Insatiable, Musicology, Future Baby Mama, Somewhere Here on Earth, Anotherloverholenyohead, Beautiful Loved & Blessed, Push It Up, Come On, The One, Do Me Baby, Strollin’, Erotic City, Damn U, Housequake, 1999, Uptown, I Can’t Make U Love Me would make my top Prince songs before Purple Rain

Purple Rain served its purpose but I have to agree with you, I don't think I ever play that song in rotation. As a matter of fact, when ot comes on the radio or TV or wherever I change the station.
When he passed I listened to Way Back Home not Purple Rain.

Twon, I wish Prince could see your reaction. I know he would be pleased. Your reaction was my reaction in 1982. There was nothing out like that at the time. Glad you enjoyed it and cause of your reaction I subscribed and gonna watch your videos.

In the song Prince is expressing how lonely he is but has nowhere and no one to go to. So he's basically venting to her how down in the dumps he is. After the first chorus he asks her "take me to your mansion", to which she does, and that's when Prince takes his frustrations out on her through intercourse. I love how he added in the sound effects of the bed on that part lmao. I could never make out what the gargling sound is exactly but my interpretation is probably he was drunk before he even got in the cab and the morning after, he's throwing up.

1999 the double album is a freakin' Masterpiece album, and this song is just one of the many highlights on it! It's all Prince (with Jill Jones as the cabbie) .... a classic timeless Prince song, and it's still SLAMMIN' in 2021 and beyond, his rhythm guitar playing here is insane! ... O(+> 4ever #GOAT ... btw, excellent reaction! :-)

If you're going in this direction, I promise you're not ready! It irks me when the only song people know is Purple Rain. That was his 6th studio abum. He had 39 studio albums in total & so many others, plus songs he wrote for others and played on uncredited. He was very generous with his time and money with millions to music programs in schools (loved kids), gave Spike Lee millions to finish She's Gotta Have It and Malcolm X, always gave $$ and coats for the homeless in every city, and gave all the proceeds to Freddie Grays Family when he went to their city to do a concert to calm the city after he was killed by police. He was socially conscious & tremendously intelligent beyond the music of which he taught himself to play 27 different instruments from the age of 7. He turned down his 1st record deal offer at age 16 because they refused to allow him full creative control, but at 17 had a deal with Warner Brothers and before he passed, had gained the rights to the Masters for all his music. It's been reported that Tamron Hall (who was once involved w/him.. She had to take a 2 month leave from her previous show when he passed. Her husband's Co. just bought the Rights to half his music catalog.

Going to catch heat for this.
    But here goes:
MJ was the ultimate live stage performer and dancer.. His albums were his concepts and he was at his peak teaming up with Quincy Jones.
    Prince?
Prince teamed up with NO ONE. He needed no one. At the age of (16, 17?) He turned down the opportunity to have his 1st album produced by Maurice White of Earth Wind & Fire, declaring that "the only one who will produce my music is me". And Maurice agreed saying there was nothing he could do for him. Prince was all set.
    Prince did it ALL.
    He played ALL the insturments.
Like MJ, his stage shows were monstrous. A studio engineer once said that the only reason Prince has a band was because he couldnt play all the instruments simultaneously by himself.
If I give MJ a 10, I will have to give Prince an 11.

      @traceyrankin936 So true.
Frank Zappa an accomplished musician in his own right, admitted that he wasn't a fan of Prince's music, but at the same time he recognized Prince's exceptional multi-faceted talents.
He rallied for Prince's right to make his music as he wanted too when he said:
"Hats off to Warner Bros for having the good sense to stay out of his way."

Prince was releasing Funk music in the 70s. His mainstream music made radio & was awesome, but long time fans of his, will remember that there were many of his songs that were not necessarily “radio approved”, that were just as important and successful. The man oozed funk! They will never be another like him 💜💜
