Ughh I hate these social media doctors/nutritionists! Literally was recommended two videos about carrots in a 15 minute period. One says peeling carrots makes you lose nutrients, other says peeling carrots reduces the amount of pesticide you consume. Human diet in relation to health is extremely complicated and many people spend their whole careers studying it. The problem is that many people will study the same thing and come to different conclusions. Depending on who you ask, a staggering amount of food is either terrible for you or incredibly healthy. You can find scientists who spent decades studying the same topic and yet they disagree wholeheartedly.
@@Proof_you_ate_corn organic produce uses pesticides and fertilizers, just ‘natural’ ones. But what’s considered natural can be very far from what actually is. I’m not saying all organic food is bad, but people are so misinformed it’s hilarious.
That’s what I like about traditional Chinese medicine. They don’t just say eat leafy green vegetables. They explain some are better to eat in cold months, others in hotter months. If you’re angry this type of exercise is good for you and if you’re weepy another exercise. It’s variable to what’s going on in your life at that moment.
How can you say that all the beta-carotine lies in the skin? "As for beta-carotene (an orange pigment and plant form of vitamin A), the peel and phloem have approximately equal amounts. That is why both peeled and unpeeled carrots have the same orange color".
If you're concerned about pesticides you can look at the proper ratios for the baking soda vinegar fruit wash. Soak your produce in the solution for 15 to 20 minutes. Scrub and rinse thoroughly and your food is at least 95 to 98% pesticide free and now edible
I have to peel it because it is coming from the public market. The people selling carrot was not responsible for handling carrot and they were too lazy to maintain them just to make money. Big possibilities for swallowing dirt from the public market even if I have to clean it so many times.
@Rachel Jolley That is a good news to know that you know the grocery store gets them from a farm that is produces Organic vegetables, fruits I'm a Londoner here around 10 millions of people lives so when you buy Organic items unless it's a genuine Organic products ONLY shop ,supermarkets then you wouldn't know the difference. Omri soil, little worm castings, azomite for minerals, dolomite or crushed eggshells for calcium, Epsom salts for magnesium, and goat or rabbit manure -- best food ever! And very safe
I’m looking for ideas for carrot juices and one short has a lady peeling the carrots. Swap here and now I’m sold on doing what she did but with the skin. Putting two and two together
That’s true of many fruits & vegetables: even potatoes, etc. Also the green tops of carrots contain many nutrients & can be used in salads, or even juices. We throw away many healthy benefits of plants for appearance not realizing we’re discarding a lot of nutrients.
It’s not going to hurt you. No in the history has eaten perfectly clean vegetables. In fact washing your vegetables is the reason we can’t get b12 naturally anymore
But can't the dirt from the carrorts potentially get you sick, even if you wash it 😅? Washing it never gets the dirt from the crevices, even when lightly scrubbed.
I just wash them off and eat. I have had no problems for 50 years with bacteria. Certain soil bacteria are good for you and some probiotics contain them.
Yes! TY Dr M. Like others here I just scrub or rinse if local/organic. If I peel it’s to eat in meal. My parents always had big veg garden and berry bushes so I grew up eating fresh picked. Baby carrots and string beans yum!! Every child should have this. Easy to grow veg and berries in containers and kids love helping and seeing plants grow. 🙏❤️✨
The skin is thin. It's the same as the rest of the carrot. How does scraping off the super thin layer of the skin take away all the nutrients? Think I'll peel.
Buy organic. There's good farmers who grow good food for themselves, their kids & want you to have good food too. Corporate stores don't care about you except as their incline and tax slave
Does this guy have a clue? The entire carrot contains beta carotene. The carrot skin contains concentrated vitamin C and niacin. But I'd rather eat a peeled carrot.
I avoided carrots 🥕 in my diet, because I had to peel …. Wow mind blowing… I will be buying the big bags a organic carrots from shoprite then.. it’s about $5 for hug bag
I have never peeled my carrots due to me being lazy

Same here.so did my parents. Geeze!!!!

Two things can be true. It’s best to get organic carrots so you can keep the skin on without being exposed to pesticides
@@Proof_you_ate_corn organic produce uses pesticides and fertilizers, just ‘natural’ ones. But what’s considered natural can be very far from what actually is. I’m not saying all organic food is bad, but people are so misinformed it’s hilarious.
Just buy baby carrots. They're affordable, smaller, and you don't have to cut/peel them.

I learned this from Martha Stewart ! I just scrub them and they taste so much better
Due to my laziness I’ve never peeled carrots!! Or potatoes. Usually buy organic
The skins do have extra nutrients
How would you know the difference between organic and none organic carrots?
@@naughtyboy9044 the label
@@naughtyboy9044 also organic begins with a nine plu number

Yes, the rabbits prove that your statements are true. I have never seen a rabbit wearing glasses!
😅
😄
😂😂
Does the Energizer Bunny count?
Rabbits actually don't eat carrots all like that and shouldn't! No idea where that came from! Cool little fact
People peel their carrots because of pesticides
Wash/soak in baking soda
So true I always peel my carrots because of pesticides.
All you have to do is wash your carrots properly.
@@garywoods3561 most people don’t
Exactly
Thanks Sir...
Thank you for sharing this. Now I know!
I only peel carrots if I am going to eat them raw. If I cook them I leave the skin on & just cut them
Doesn't cooking it destroy the whole point?
Hey Doc ? You rock !

Just wash them in baking sodas and water or use a little white vinegar soak them 10 minutes and scrub with a brush
Does this include diabetes 🙄 when it comes to eating carrots 🥕🤔
🥕Thanks Doc! No more peeling my carrots! 👀
Same
Love carrots, just buy organic and scrub them, wonderfully tasty 😋

Thanks Doc, if I am juicing my carrots will I still get the same vitamin A?
Yes without the fiber.
And the fiber is important for stopping an insulin spike. Without the fiber, you get a sugar rush which is not good for your blood sugars
I juice them and take 2 or 3 bites of the fiber
Good job- and pls teach to not overcook veggies most kill their veggie just like that

Awesome!! Thank you so much!
But without peeling the skin the carrots have a lot of dirt, pretty tough to get the dirt off

What's up Doc ?? 🐰
But about all the dirt stuck on the skin. No matter how hard you scrub them with soap, the dirt filled with bacteria stays on the skin
Thank you 4the info
Thank you for sharing this Dr. Mandell!

But what about the chemicals that the skins absorb ?
Buy Organic or let sit in Apple Cider Vinegar& water to strip alot of chemicals
But can't the dirt from the carrorts potentially get you sick, even if you wash it 😅? Washing it never gets the dirt from the crevices, even when lightly scrubbed.
But the pesticides that lay on the skin

It’s also where all the chemicals they spray on them are. Keep pealing the skin if they’re not organic
Organic is much healthier and tasty.
You need to buy every fruit that doesn't have a peal like bananas organic.
I didn’t know that wow!!!!
Doc but we need to clean it very well by pealing the skin before consumption..
