For any copyright, please send me a message. X Factor star Jahmene Douglas has warned singers not to take part in the show because it isn’t really a singing competition. The 28-year-old came second on the ITV programme in 2012 and signed a five album deal with Simon Cowell’s Syco label but was dropped after just one album. Speaking about his experiences in a new UA-cam video called X Factor Xposed, Jahmene said: “X Factor isn’t a singing competition, it’s a reality TV show, I realised who I was on it. They didn’t care about my singing, they care about the story behind you. “When I went on the show, it wasn’t about the story that I had, it was about my voice. That’s what I wanted to push. “I didn’t sign up thinking I want to tell my story, I wanted to sing.” Despite doing well Jahmene said he “lost sight” of who he was as a singer, saying:“It was a traumatising blessing. “I don’t like to say ‘I regret the experience’ because its made me who I am as a singer now. I’ve learnt a lot of things. “It’s like a crash course in the industry. “Traumatising? Yes. Would I recommend X Factor to a singer singer? No.” He went on to discuss recording his first album, which he claims he didn’t know was going to be a cover album. “It’s hard to talk about. Being forced to do a cover album shattered my whole singing dream of what I had done growing up and what I had dreamt of,” he said. “When I signed on the contract, what was pitched to me was ‘I want you to join these [famous] people on the wall. Your voice can join these people. I believe you’re not a one hit wonder’. “I signed a five album deal with them. They had me for my next five albums which was the contract from X Factor. “But they forced me to make a cover album and it was so soul destroying. “My heart broke and in that moment I realised no one cares.” He managed to get them to agree to let him do a duets album instead but he claims they changed their mind last minute. “I got to the end of recording the album and within the week of it being released, they said ‘we’re not going to do that, we’re going to stick with your vocals and release it like that’,” he said. “So the whole thing we agreed on was thrown out the window. “I was just lied to.“ The album went to number one but he was dropped by the label - and he claims he was unable to leave them due to his contract. Jahmene revealed: “They have to choose to let you go but they held onto me for two or three years. So all the work dried up, all the hype died down and at the end of that they dropped me. “You’re not making any money during those times [waiting to be dropped].” He went on to say he was never invited back on the show and never heard back from Simon when he sent him his second album to l

How do we know these are really jahmene's words? Showing pictures and putting words in quotations is clear indicator that this is possibly fabricated. Anyone could put this together easily. In the other hand, I can't prove this isn't true..

Jahmene the one good thing that has come out of all this negativity with the X Factor is You, you stood up to those who just wanted to use you, and yet your voice is out in the open. The X Factor did not make you, You Jahmene made the X Factor. You have been blessed with a powerful voice and now God will use that voice to reach out to those who have a voice like yours and to stand up to what you believe in as a singer and a songwriter. Never give up just because of some corrupted Record Label and never give in to corruption in the Music industry. You're better than that my boy and continue to believe in yourself and build your confidence and show everyone you are a survivor and meant to sing your heart out and give hope to others like you. I am so proud of you and so is everyone else you need to continue to believe in yourself as I believe in you and so does God himself believe in you as a professional singer either pop or gospel you can still make it in the music industry. Oh I’m so sorry to hear that it was so soul shattering. Do you regret not biting the bullet and just do their albums the way they wanted in order to keep your career ? If not, I hear you, I did the same with my career.
Why are they constantly showing that photo that isnt him? They dont even look similar.
When you sign a contract they own you if you want to do things your way you have to have your own studio it is totally normal what has happened you either accept it or you move on... Strength comes from these hard lessons in life!
That is exactly what *it is about* and it is a great way to gain exposure in a mass market. With a voice like his, he should have found his own way in a modern world of digital music - He did not!
Jahmene will never will be at peace with himself until he accepts that he is gay - which is very difficult for him as a conservative Christian. Having said that, I totally understand and agree with him about what happened on the TV show and with his recording contract. They didn’t treat him like an artist. They treated him as a product. He should release an album that reflects himself - whether that be gay anthems or Christian songs - or both. ❤

I think you're amazing Jahmene. But when you went on the show....wasn't it supposed to BE about your voice ? Everybody has a story...but at the end of the day...if you don't have the talent to support your story....the story is nothing. You HAVE the talent. You HAVE the voice.
I also don't understand the 'trauma' with having to do a 'cover album', when what you did that brought you into the limelight, were cover songs.
Perhaps I'm not following this story correctly. It's hard sometime to piece together in a proper time-line, how the events played out.
Anyways...as I said, I don't know the full story...but you should always remember that X Factor put you on the map. Whatever happened after that....without them, you would still be hiding all that talent while working at a grocery story.
His voice put him on the map, a lot of people audition on X factor but they wont get anywhere without their talent. Individual musicians can and have made it without the X Factor show, X factor cannot make it without talented musicians.
Brilliant singer, but he needs to chill, and tell the public who he is and not defend himself on what he thinks people may be thinking about him, because really it doesn't matter.
