you did a fine job, as always! i would like to offer you a couple tips to make this even easier and faster: 1) when you lock the string into the bridge, bend it sharply to allow it to conform to the shape of the saddle right away. this will eliminate some of the required stretching later. 2 ) after you pull the string through the peg, pull it sung but not super tight. hold the string with one hand at the peg. while doing this, grab the string at the nut, and pull it backwards the distance of 1 fret. this allows the perfect number of wraps every time. now, bend the string at the place where it exits the peg. instead of wrapping it with the peg winder, physically grab it and make 1 wrap. hold the end of the string against the peg, and wind it about the tension you would feel for a tuned string, the entire time keeping backwards tension on the string when you wind it. doing this also eliminates some of the loosness around the post so you will have less to do with continually "stretching" the string. before tuning, be sure to center the fine tuner at the bridge end. only cut the strings after you lock the nut down for each pair. doing these steps will eliminate about 70% of the stretching, and the guitar will be more stable. also, do the fine tuning with the guitar in playing position. doing it flat, gravity acts on the neck and causes a tiny bit of deflection. hope this was clear enough to understand, i'm not great at explaining things, but if you do this, it will be faster and easier.

I bought a Schecter that had a Floyd rose bridge awhile back. That guitar looked mean with the Floyd bridge. I didn’t know anything about these bridges on how to change the strings and start to cut the strings one at a time and I found out that was a really bad idea. After I cut three of them the Floyd fell down. Once I got it fixed and tuned up I started to play it and one of the strings came out of the bridge and almost got me in the eye. So I made it a fixed bridge and sold it to guitar center. I am now looking at getting another guitar with a Floyd bridge now that I know what to do. Great video Jassy J. 🤘
Great job Jassy! One thing I do is tune the first string that I replace, sharp & then the next strings a little less sharp as I go and then I'm pretty close to in tune once I'm finished
I have so much to relearn lol i was 14yrs old is the last time i literally played so these are extremely helpful,im 32 now so i forgot alot.i had a accoustic i usally messed around with lings electric guitar gibsons.
Hi Jassy, I am writing to inform you that I have watched two of your videos(the other one was Nirivana "Come As you Are" ) and they were awesome; also I didn't know that takings care of a guitar would include so many steps, but it's worth it in the end :). Hope to hear from you soon and rock on 🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸.
Hey JJ put some hard sponge under the floyd then you can take off all the strings and clean the neck at the same time,or put a wood block between the trem block and the body it will stay in tune when you remove it....awesome guitar by the way.
Thank you =) Yes I once had a wood block, but it disappeared. Then again this was a tutorial for beginners to understand how this system works. I guess they even have less tools at home =)
Been playing with Tune-O-Matics since 2019 when I started playing guitar, got 5 TOMs, just bought a floyd rose equipped DBZ Venom with active EMGs for next to nothing yesterday, and needed some visual aids and tips in order to restring it. Thank you for this video, definitely also getting a set of Wera tools, can't go wrong with german made tools. ;) Good thing I have plenty of strings to mess with. (I bought out 50 sets of super cheap noname brand strings from a shop that was closing down, so I can mess around with things.) (Normally I just use D'addario XL/NYXL depending on what I'm doing.)
Good explanation Jassy, they are frightening beasts at first but once you know what you’re doing it’s not that hard. I usually pull the strings to stretch them out like you showed but then tune a note up then get a Coffee and leave them sit for half hour then drop back to normal tuning. I find that helps with less minor adjustments once locked down. Go for the intonation video next 😁 that’s my job at the weekend if I can find my gauges, my Ibanez is out and needs some love. Stay safe 🙂
Great info. I did not know I could tune a Floyed tremolo with the back springs. I am really new to floyed rose tremolo system. I could really use one of these great tool sets because I am learning how to do all my own setup and it would be great to have the tools needed to learn everything. Even if I don't win great video I will use the info a lot. Thanks Jassy #Wera #ToolRebels #BAToolaRebel Thanks again for another great video Jassy
Awesome stuff! My second guitar was a yamaha with a floyd rose system and it was nightmare, but also a good learning curve. If you wanted to make restringing even easier get a set of 'speed loader saddles',it'll cut out having to untighten and retighten. Also i find when you want to bend a string the other strings sound flat and even knock it out of tune. For this you can use a 'tremmory' and you can also drop tune it on the fly and not worry about it going out of tune.Ola Englund did a video on one called 'guitar gimmicks' it's worth a watch :) looking lovely btw.
It can only help with not having to fiddle with your guitar so much :) It's also help your recordings sound more awesome if you gotta bend the strings......... More solos?
My 1st guitar had a Floyd. I was a complete beginner and didn't know it wasn't just a normal bridge so, I learned it along with everything else. Maybe I missed it but after I take a string off I also like to set the fine tuners on the bridge half way before tuning and stretching the new string. You would think let them all the way out because it would only go flat but Floyd's do weird things sometimes lol
This is why I'm glad to be a bassplayer, fixed bridges ftw haha! One of the guitarists in my old band had a Floyd and he never tuned up before rehearsal so we had to detune our instruments to match his...thank god we played some awful death metal so it sort of added to the sound...kinda...I guess...
@@JassyPabst At least we were all out of tune so it sort of sounded uniform... The band is still going and they're working on their first EP so I wonder if that'll sound the same haha.
Entry level guitars generally use fixed bridge or fulcrum trems because they are cheap and reliable. Yes they are also much easier to keep properly adjusted as well but it’s mainly a cost factor. When talking about “Floyd rose” trems we are talking about a “family” of trems based on the original design. However a useable, reliable Floyd rose is going to cost 3 times more than a fixed bridge. If they use the absolute cheapest version they can find it’s still more expensive and that guitar will be in the tech shop more than in the hands of the player. The complexity is just a learning curve anyone can learn to keep them balanced and maintained but the build quality of a Floyd rose trem designed to sell with a guitar for just a couple hundred bucks is going to be dreadful. It’s going to break, it’s going to be out of alignment with the string radius and it’s not going to hold up to the job. I have been working on those trems since they first arrived in the eighties and by the early nineties they were slapping cheap models on almost all cheap guitars. 90% of the time the best recommendation I could make was to deck it down hard and treat it like fixed bridge. I could rebuild them or I could replace them but it’s going to cost more than they probably paid for the guitar. I love Floyd Rose floating trems. They are a great piece of engineering but a German made “real” Floyd is easily a few hundred bucks and a Chinese licensed Floyd is about $40. I personally won’t buy or recommend the Chinese licensed or any of the super cheap paid a fee to use the name. Just no point and no value in it.
That's incredibly helpful! =) Thank you for your input! I love it when people share their knowledge. For me I didn't know what a Floyd Rose system is xD My first real guitar had one, I got frustrated and I guess especially during the beginning it's incredibly helpful to learn a complete setup. But I am with you. No beginner should start with a Floyd.
Nice video. Of course one you get use to it, it becomes easy. But if you find your Floyd doesn't hold tune no matter what then the springs are worn out and needs to be replaced. I've had lots of this over the years especially in older guitars. 🤘
Hi Jassy. Great video, thanks. I've recently bought my first floyd rose guitar. I can't actually do a string change yet because I can't leave the house. I've never had a comprehensive set of set up tools and that looks like a great set. I'm sure it will prove to be very handy for years to come if I win. Greetings from Oz. #Wera #ToolRebels #BAToolRebel
About to replace the LO-TRS bridge on my old JS100 with a Floyd Rose Original. I'm so NOT looking forward to setting that up. 😣 Hardtails are so much easier to set up and adjust intonation.
@@JassyPabst If I'm practicing songs where I need to keep changing tunings I will use one of my fixed bridge guitars for quick tuning changes. If I won the lottery though, I'd just have a different floating bridge guitar set up for every tuning. 😆
What kind of tuning instrument is that on the ground. Cool something I haven't seen before ! How does that tuning instrument work! Do you have a video on that and a video how to tune to say drop d or c or any other kinds of tunnings with this instrument because I just don't know how to do that I would like to learn and something that I can learn fast and easy on maybe.
I use to own a Kramer Striker with the floyd rose, got it when i was 15 i think. My father ordered it from a website,it came with a small 30w Electar tube amp. Iv got tierd of the floyd cause it took me longer to change strings and tune it up cause it had those finetuners. I do miss that guitar now a few years later but it was a pain in the bum to string and take care of cause the stringclamps also gets damaged, it sorts of gets stripped over the years of tightning and loosening..if you know what i mean. I had a big bag of those stringclamps just in case. I just sold that guitar and bought me a les paul instead! :) btw those Daddario XTs are my choice now, love those strings and yes you have too much windings on the post! Maby one or two wraps is enough for the floyd rose. I do need this tools so can set up my guitars. It will be fun to have something to do now in this hard time and it saves me a lot of money too, instead of taking it to a luthier. Some of my guitars needs a set up. Im hoping you are doing well, rock on from Sweden! 🤟 #Wera #ToolRebels #BaToolRebel
If you are going with the same gage strings, change them one at a time. Stretch each one as you put it on and you will not have to do a lot of retuning and leveling the bridge !!!
Me: *has an ltd Alexi 200 with a floyd rose special* hmm how to re-string a floyd eh? Interesting... Also me: *doesn't even have new strings to put on* smh. Lol
#Wera #ToolRebels #BAToolRebel I desperately need that tool set because I have a Jackson with a FR-1000 and it is amazing, and it should not be meant to suffer because of my inadequate tools! Love you, Jassy!
I'd love one of these set up sets because setting up a Floyd is a nightmare and the set will make restringing my Hellraiser and Jem so much easier. #wera #ToolRebels #BAToolRebels
You could presumably leave the ball on the tuner end and then it would hold the string as you tighten it down then trim single center piece to keep it wound on the bridge. I wouldn't mind having one of those guitar tool sets. I have like 5 guitars and a bass.
I need that tools, btw you have a different way to do it and well I learned something else, the thing is when you have a floyd, you must marry a tuning
Thx you JJ .kiss from LYON!! And take care of you
Hey there to Lyon! =) I can understand and talk a bit of french, but It stops when it comes to specific vocabulary xD Can you translate to English? As also google translate is messing it up.
I don't have a floyd rose model guitar, just a a standard metal Explorer from Chapman. The system is more lighter and less complicated for change the strings and also tune it (I use my Line 6 amp to cheating this 😋 ) . When i finished to tune, they are already ready to play, configuration of it : D'Addario XL and Seymour Duncan Microphones. I am surprised about your patience and frustration tolerance master, Nice video as usual 😉
Yeah it's a pain to switch strings and do diffrent tunings. I just keep mine tuned to standerd, other fixed bridges for other tunings. If only I got someone 7 years ago when I first swithed my stings on a Floyd, spent hours getting everything right again. Now for the reason I need that set! I'm tired of turning that tuner over and over and using a bulky cutter for the strings. Also, the hexwrenches always disappear into corners. Srewdrivers always somewhere in the shed. This would make restringen a hell of a lot easier and quicker and maybe we can do it more often then! #Wera #ToolRebels #BAToolRebel Rock'on Jassy
Tbh i got into guitars blindly. I learned guitar maintenance through very newbish trial & error/ youtube videos I have a few guitars now one of them being a schecter Damien 6fr which i was guilty of cutting all the strings..damien has had a love hate relationship with me but your video help alot. I really love guitars and i would like to change that especially considering music helps with my depression. I would be eternally grateful for the kit Jassy J
I have a fixed bridge Ibanez. The first time that I have changed my guitar's strings it took me literally 2 hours just to put the string into the hole and flip the knob till I had the string in place. You have said that Floyd bridge might annoy begginers, but this thing actually exausted me like a whole working day! #Wera #ToolRebels #BAToolRebel I've got a question - when you played with the strings you have said something about retuning using the strings and that you have to have less tension on thinner strings and more on thicker ones. Does this apply to a fixed bridge Ibanez? I'm asking specifically about Ibanez since it seems like my guitar's strings act on their own and are not affected by the others. Thanks for this vid! will save this incase I decide to get my second guitar, and as a Floyd ross one
I've been thinking about getting an Apocalypse Red Reign. Is the neck comfortable to play? :) Also, very nice tutorial, made me feel alot more confident with handling a Floyd Rose system.
I was just about to purchase a Jackson JS Dinky with Floyd Rose.... But now after seeing this... I think i will get something without a Floyd Rose.... ? ...... Is all the extra effort of a Floyd Rose worth it for a semi- beginner guitarist?
Hey jassy this was an awesome tutorial, if only I saw it a week ago XD, I did all my adjusting on my new mick thomson with restringing completely wrong but thanks to the fact that it dosent have the spring tension panel at the back it was very easy and forgiving to learn, I need these tools because I'm completely broke after buying the guitar as I saved up a years worth of constant work and hardship for the money, I had to cut my strings with a shoddy pair of scissors as I dont own a wire cutter or any proper tools and stuff got messy quick, I would really appreciate the chance to win the giveaway and even if I dont I still love everything you do, keep rocking 🤘 #Wera #ToolRebels #BAToolRebel
This is a very important video jassy, thanks for taking the time to put this together for people who don’t know. Before internet help I learned the hard way on my own. Made a mess the first few times😂 💕how you pronounce gauge... sexy schecter🤘🏻and outfit
I did the other things around, I bought Floyd rose first. I’m older but still a bigger, I was a teen in the 80s and 20s in the 90s so the bands I loved had Floyd and kahler.
I really need that tools, I've no serious tools got my guitars an some times I'm ending buying cheap tools that won't last or damage my guitar finish due the lack of quality
I've never actually owned a guitar with a Floyd. They're really cool, but they always seem to be too much of a pain. That's a really neat trick with tuning it from the back though. I never knew you could do that. Saves you having to get one of those D-TUNA things. :) I could actually use one of those tool sets because last time I changed my strings, I found my wire cutters were blunt. I had to struggle with a pair of scissors. It was awful! #Wera #ToolRebels #BAToolRebel Admittedly not a desperate need, but if I don't win, thanks for reminding me to buy new wire cutters haha.
you're telling me you have cut the strings with a pair of scissors? I just cringe from imagining the sound that it makes xD I also confirm your entry ;)
Irgendwie wirst du mir immer sympathischer, Jassy. Warum? ROCK ON!! \m/ #Wera #ToolRebels #BAToolRebel
Love the channel and your videos on both UA-cam and Facebook! I could really use the setup kit because I’m trying to get into working on and building my own guitars for people a little less fortunate and could use a set of proper tools! #Wera #ToolRebel #BAToolRebel
I need the set because I have multiple guitars that have never had a proper setup just quick action adjustments but nothing proper and with everything happening it's a good time to learn how to do something new and get my guitars playing best they can #Wera #ToolRebels #BAToolRebels
If you like D'Addarios, and that's what you want to use, go for it.. but just know they eat your frets. You can change all 6 strings at once by shoving a block of rubber under the back of the bridge.

Jassy very well explained video.. It's very hard to find a good video on youtube for Floyd Rose string set up. Your video is finest till now. Loved your pedal board as well , that tuner looks very convenient. From your video now I actually learned how to properly role the strings on keys. But one thing was a bit unclear to me that when you stretched the strings what was the purpose behind it? Although you explained very well. Mmm I'll be needing that kit because my guitar service shop is very far 🙃 and I never restring properly with my hands 😌. But I loved your video ☺ #Wera #ToolRebels #BAToolRebel
The strings still need to get used to the tension and will expand after some time =) So if you stretch them, they expand now and you don'T need to set up the guitar again! =) Also I confirm your entry!

Thank you for this video, definitely also getting a set of Wera tools, can't go wrong with german made tools. ;)
Good thing I have plenty of strings to mess with.
(I bought out 50 sets of super cheap noname brand strings from a shop that was closing down, so I can mess around with things.)
(Normally I just use D'addario XL/NYXL depending on what I'm doing.)
I have learned so much from this thank you!
Really happy to hear 😊
Its espetacular electric guitar!
I love your videos!
Big Kiss!
Thank you =)
Good explanation Jassy, they are frightening beasts at first but once you know what you’re doing it’s not that hard.
Stay safe 🙂
Thanks Craig, happy you enjoyed it =) I think I will do the next tutorial in a couple of weeks xD I spent 10 hours on that video here hahaha
Why am I watching this? I don't have a floyd rose guitar
I don't even have a guitar
Because this might give you a tendency if you get yourself one or not xD
No Floyd? that surprises me
I feel you bro
You know why !!!
thanks for this, i'll try to change my guitar strings myself from now
Happy it helped =)
Thanks Jassy #Wera

Excellent vídeo! Thanks for everything!!
happy you enjoyed it =)
Awesome stuff! For this you can use a 'tremmory' and you can also drop tune it on the fly and not worry about it going out of tune.Ola Englund did a video on one called 'guitar gimmicks' it's worth a watch :) looking lovely btw.
you're the second one with the same tip =) Maybe I should check out this video =)
One of the guitarists in my old band had a Floyd and he never tuned up before rehearsal so we had to detune our instruments to match his...thank god we played some awful death metal so it sort of added to the sound...kinda...I guess...
oh my god, what an ear torture xD
No beginner should start with a Floyd.
xD
Nice video. Of course one you get use to it, it becomes easy. But if you find your Floyd doesn't hold tune no matter what then the springs are worn out and needs to be replaced. I've had lots of this over the years especially in older guitars. 🤘
That'S also the thing with cheaper models. It seems to me the quality of the springs isn't too great.
Thank you very much =) Glad it helps! =) I also confirm your entry! =)
nice tip.. It took me 45min for my first sting change
40min for me with the explanatory part here xD you're good!
About to replace the LO-TRS bridge on my old JS100 with a Floyd Rose Original. I'm so NOT looking forward to setting that up. 😣 Hardtails are so much easier to set up and adjust intonation.
But what do you prefer? Chilling string change or exciting dive bombs? xD
Actually it's just a tuner pedal =) There are already a lot of videos online on how to tune a guitar =)

Whoa you’ve came up with your editing 🔥
Thanks to the support on Patreon I was able to invest a bit ;) Glad it shows! Still I need a proper Mic solution.
You could presumably leave the ball on the tuner end and then it would hold the string as you tighten it down then trim single center piece to keep it wound on the bridge. I wouldn't mind having one of those guitar tool sets. I have like 5 guitars and a bass.
hey, saw your comment on thecontentbugs video and decided to stop by! Awesome content! Keep crushing it ❤️!

Thanks =D Well I think if you are practicing guitar you need an equal amount of patience ;)
I really love this videos 🤘
happy to hear =)
Yeah it's a pain to switch strings and do diffrent tunings. I just keep mine tuned to standerd, other fixed bridges for other tunings. If only I got someone 7 years ago when I first swithed my stings on a Floyd, spent hours getting everything right again.
Now for the reason I need that set! I'm tired of turning that tuner over and over and using a bulky cutter for the strings. Also, the hexwrenches always disappear into corners. Srewdrivers always somewhere in the shed. This would make restringen a hell of a lot easier and quicker and maybe we can do it more often then! #Wera #ToolRebels #BAToolRebel

#Wera #ToolRebels #BAToolRebel
I've got a question - when you played with the strings you have said something about retuning using the strings and that you have to have less tension on thinner strings and more on thicker ones. Does this apply to a fixed bridge Ibanez? I'm asking specifically about Ibanez since it seems like my guitar's strings act on their own and are not affected by the others.
Thanks for this vid! will save this incase I decide to get my second guitar, and as a Floyd ross one
The fixed bridge doesn't care that much. But you might have to look for the trussrod and the intonation if you switch strings there!
@@JassyPabst Thanks ^^ The truss rod is the metal rod inside the neck right? that thing that can bend after a while?

Ui, vielen Dank =)
do you consider to change your tremolo block in your guitar like fu tone fat tremolo block ?
I did the other things around, I bought Floyd rose first. I’m older but still a bigger, I was a teen in the 80s and 20s in the 90s so the bands I loved had Floyd and kahler.

#Wera #ToolRebels #BAToolRebel
Admittedly not a desperate need, but if I don't win, thanks for reminding me to buy new wire cutters haha.

Achso!

Hello JJ What king of strings should i use to play in drop C on my epiphone les Paul standard Pro ? Thx
I think .10 - .54 should be good. But then again you need to test yourself!
If you like D'Addarios, and that's what you want to use, go for it.. but just know they eat your frets.
You can change all 6 strings at once by shoving a block of rubber under the back of the bridge.
I dont own one yet but want to get one maybe in the next months so Im watching all Floyd Rose related Videos to prepare me for the pain 😂😭
Great video 😉 I don't like Floyd Rose bridges 🤔 the tools are great 😮
I got a trauma from my very first Floyd Rose guitar xD That bridge was pretty cheap and unnerving to tune....
