    This is the easiest way I've seen to prepare shad. Definitely going to try it!

      Make sure that the cross cut is thin… around 1/4 inch or thinner. Enjoy with your favorite dipping sauce. Grateful for the comment. 🙏🙏🙏

    I caught a bunch of huge Shad last night in Newport MA. Gave most to these Asian guys who were fishing next to me and apparently love them. Caught a 20" one just after they left and figured I'd try it myself. Thanks for the video!

    • @JUNationFishing

      @@notsoeloquent I haven’t received any feedback that it’s not good. I normally eat the entire one by myself. If it’s good enough for President George Washington and his men…. That’s why the American Shad is also known as the founding fish . I love it. 👍🙏🎣JU Hammah⚒

    The other way, is to cut it the same way you did here, but brush oil on it and put it in the oven on low heat for 5-6 hours, or air fryer low heat for 80-90 minutes. Still makes it crispy golden brown but not all oily.

    Planning to try some Shad fishing up there. What other fish would you say shad taste similar to? Thanks

    • @JUNationFishing
      @JUNationFishing  2 роки тому +1

      If not prepared or cook properly, it won’t taste good. Fish should be bled right away if you plan to eat it. If you don’t eat it the same day, make sure you soak it in milk for an hour before cooking it to get rid of the fishy smell. It is extremely boney, i.e., has lots of bones. It’s meat is soft and sweet. In my opinion, minus the bones, it tastes like steelhead. Thanks for watching. 👍🙏🎣JU Hammah⚒

    So what happens to the little bones? They get rendered? So the basis is to cook it long?

    • @JUNationFishing
      @JUNationFishing  Рік тому

      The bones are super soft. The key is to make small cuts less than 1/4 inch! Once cooked, one cannot tell that the bones are there; the bones become a part of the meat. Try it and let me know what you think. Use some dipping sauce and it will tastes even better! Thanks for stopping by. 🙏🙏🙏

    I like to take the eggs from the females or the ribs. For a fish, they have a surprising amount of meat on their ribs. I'll for sure try this for cooking the rest of the fish this season!
