Not yet. I’ve actually sold the Ltd now as I bought a Chapman. Kind of wish I’d kept the Ltd and never bought the Chapman but that’s hindsight. The Ltd and Jim Root both have a similar neck radius and both weigh a ton. The Jim Root doesn’t have a tone knob (not that it really matters) and one thing to be careful of with the Jim Root is that the neck is aligned properly. The one my drummer has had to have the neck pocket adjusted and packed as the thin e ran almost off the edge of the neck. You get this problem on lots of squier Telecasters. Apart from that, they’re very similar guitars so check the neck on the Jim Root, and if it’s straight, just choose whichever you prefer the look of. I think the Jim Root would hold its value slightly more though. From memory, the Ltd has more carves and the Jim Root is more of a slab body. The Ltd also has real binding
I have a fender strat and wanted to get a telecaster but basically wanted to mod it out to play heavier tunes. Thinking about getting this instead, I’m pretty small and enjoy lighter guitars how much heavier is this than a standard telecaster? Thanks for playing it on clean as well. Of course it will sound great with distortion but enjoy reviews playing all tones.
It can definitely do clean playing but that is one heavy guitar. The HH player Tele is a lot lighter and the cool splits sound great. The Jim Root is also really heavy. Not offensively heavy but really heavy for a Tele
Great review of a nice looking and sounding Geetar. The only issue I have when playing my Tele is hitting the pick up selector switch whilst strumming. I'm considering reversing the control plate which places the volume pot closer and the selector switch out of the way. Just wondering if you have any experience with this mod?
I’ve never hit the switch. I do find that the switches on almost every style of Tele go too close to the knob in the middle of that plate so it can be difficult to adjust the volume when the switch is in the bridge position. I’ve never tried that mod but I know loads of people do it. If there’s enough cable it should only take a few minutes. You’d need to turn the pickup switch round too but that’s only 2 screws
Its such a design flaw in what otherwise is a simple and perfect design. Why put the knob so close to the switch when there's so much room to move it over?! 🤦♂️ There must be a reason?! Otherwise, they made an awesome instrument, great design and put the switch on at the end and just went "that'll do" 🐴
