Huge thanks for watching and tight lines 👍🎣🐟
Great video, two points I would like to add. Calm sees are best for catching Mackerel from a beach. If the sea is rougher the Mackerel shoals will be further offshore usually out of reach.
If you don't see the sea 'boiling' they can still be there just not hunting on the surface. In that case cast and let the feathers drop through the water before retrieving.
Great advice thanks for sharing :)
Excellent video for beginners and people who need a re-fresher thanks for posting.
Great vid . Very informative . Many thanks .
Absolutely insane 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Brilliant video Jason 👍
Good video, nice and clear for beginners like me,thankyou 👍
Thanks for the video, for someone just getting back into fishing after a 20 year gap, they are totally valuable.
Welcome back to fishing and huge thanks for watching this video, im glad it helped :)
Top man sir 🦈🦈🦈
Amazing video, thank you very much. You answered a few burning questions I had.
Great to hear! Thanks so much if you need any more help ping me a message :)
Hi, I used to course fish when i was a lad, but have never sea fished. Its been on my to do list for along while and I've been searching for a good guide for a while. This video is superb!!! I'm coming in with no knowledge at all and now feel i know enough to buy some tackle and try it for myself! Thank you!!!!!
It's comments like this that make me smile 😃 sea fishing is fantastic and I would say to everyone to try it once cause once you do it's hard to not go! @@TheEastbourneFisherman will do! Will keep you updated as well. Thanks again!
@R Mos where abouts are you located - Chesil is an Amazing venue just be careful of the swells the waves can get you if not paying attention with strong under currents.
WELCOME to the bright side lol and good luck sea fishing :)
Aaah fantastic once you fish the sea you will never stop, the unknowing keeps me keen just never know what will take the bait.
Poole Harbour ace for bass lure fishing too.
Good luck with the move :)
Great stuff buddy!!
Great video mate!
Bait for winter sorted 😀😀
Thanks for your time, sharing your trip. Really appreciate and enjoyed it.
No problem thanks for watching :)

Cheers, for this, I'm a complete beginner looking at getting into fishing, and mackerel is my favourite! Looking to get a small telescopic rod for my wild camping kit, hoping to get some supper while bivvying out!

Thank you :)
Great video, I’m off to the isle of white next week and you have taught me what to do love it 👍
No problem Tony hope u catch some good ones :)
This is great, thanks for taking the time to make this guide. I've caught mackerel from boats before but never from the shore, I will be trying next summer after watching this
Deffo give it a go its my favourite time of the year :)
EXCELLENT VIDEO , well done
Thanks mate :)
Great video I’ve never seen the sea bubble like that with fish or whitebait beaching itself and I’m 50 plus and been in Devon and Cornwall hundreds of times must go closer to you lol
Tbh neither have I nor thd locals
We get good numbers but this year has been insane!
Great when you’re on the beach for the day….. BBQ comes to mind. You’ll never get fresher.
Well done Jason for the video!
Tight lines.

Do love fresh mackerel straight off the beach can not beat it mm mmm mmmm!
Cool vid. Whetted my appetite for this. And Mackerel is my favourite eating so tackle shop visit on Monday.
Cheers, dude.
Nice one mate which you all the best :)
Went down myself Monday morning, I couldn't believe it. Didn't even need a rod, we just lowered a bit of line with lures on into the sea from the edge of the water and pulled two or three at a time. Dinner was sorted! Pan fried that evening, brilliant, thanks as always for your encouragement and assistance.
Always good fun :) glad you got some :) love a smoked mackerel mmm!
May I ask which fishing spot did you go?
Langney point
Water needs to be clear
Atm water its too coloured and dirty
Ahhhh got it.
thanks for the video sir.
Thanks for watching :)
Great video
Cheers mate :)
I loved the comment at the end of the video "don't take more than you need", a chap down here in Weymouth 2 years ago said to me and my daughter "I've caught 48, would you like some, (I was mackerel fishing) and he dragged a MASSIVE great bag of fish off the pier, between me and my daughter we caught over a 100 ...... WE took 6, I'm a fisherman not a fish murderer
Deffo sustainable fishing is the way forward for us all :)
My mother in law would love them
Cracking video, really enjoyed it. It’s worth saying that when the mackerel are chasing the Whitebait on to the beach, get a bag and collect as many as you can. They are absolutely fantastic to eat, especially if you eat some with a couple of fillets of mackerel. I freeze small bags full, I.e. enough for a meal.
I fry them in a hot frying pan for about a minute in a little rapeseed oil and drizzle a little bit of butter just before taking them out of the pan and they are as good to eat as any fish in the sea. Never use olive oil to fry fish in as it ruins before it gets hot enough👍🏻
Thanks mate deffo will give it a go this year and thanks for the heads up on the oil. When i do it it goes to mush maby thats the reason!!!!
@@TheEastbourneFisherman absolutely and just remember that the pan must be almost smoking and they will go crispy in a few seconds. Then a little bit of butter and salt before bringing them out of the pan and they are sensational 😉👍🏻
I live in New Zealand, fish from a boat most weeks all year around. If you saw how any oil other than extra virgin olive oil was made, you would never ever eat it. I use extra virgin Spanish olive oil with butter, but don't get the pan smoking hot. Dust the fillet with flour 60 to 90 seconds a side perfect, but we are very lucky with snapper, kahawai and kingfish. Mackerel for us is bait, bit spoilt orobably
@@joedennehy386 you lucky lucky Devi you! For us here in the UK our mackerel are the tastiest fish in the sea and as such they really have to be looked after and cooked properly. With regards the use of cooking oil, even Rick Stein advises not to use olive oil, either virgin or other for frying!
Actually the best medium for frying is good old fashioned lard with a lump of butter smeared on the fillet just before removing from the pan👍🏻
My wife never dusts the fillet with flour, but she does heat up the pan till it’s smoking hot, drops the fillet in the pan, skin side down, and then turns down the heat and fries it for 10 minutes and it’s fantastic 👍🏻 She fries my Bass and pollock in the same manner 😉
First lesson for summer so called fishermen is to respect the nature, fish and don't leave any trash behind. During this time period the coast is the most disgusting place as a result of feather tossers!
I completly agree with you the "SUMMER" anglers make us look shameful with the litter that is left behind :(
That sort of behaviour drives me nuts. I always pick up what I can, but far from able to pick it all up.
Brilliant video! Lovely scenes and like the fact you took some patience too the shore too untangle your rig. Good message at the end and overall fantastic too see people catching these important little fish I caught absolutely ZERO last season here in south east Ireland 😂 however it was a bad season all round even for the sea trout river runs last year please god this year will be better.
I wish you good fortune in fishing my friend. This specific year was like none i or any of my friends witnessed the sheer number of these fish is insane the whole sea was boiling. Amaxing to see :)
@@TheEastbourneFisherman thanks a mil please god I get a few. Ah that’s where they all where so. It was a very strange feeling season last year but it looks like the bass laws are working there is an abundance of bass around again.
I live and fish on the Llyn Peninsula of N Wales and like you there were hardly any mackerel around here last summer. No problem whatsoever with catching Bass as there were plenty of them in the 3lb range. Also lots of garfish. Strangely I never saw any Whitebait. In 2020 the sea was full of Whitebait all around the shore and plenty of mackerel chasing them everywhere 🤷♂️
Eastbourne native here. Just bought a reel and rod today to start makerel with him next week, we're both newbies to this. Thought it would be a good idea to search UA-cam for hints and tips and your channel was the first one that popped up. Thank you for the video.
I am new aswell. Going this Monday to Brighton for first time fishing. Bought rod and reel.
Hi mate good to see your giving fishing a go :)
If you ever fancy a fish together let me know Happy to come down and show u how it's done 👍
Happy fishing mate :)
@@TheEastbourneFisherman I love to go with you. If you text me when you will go next time and where you will go I will come down to see and get some experience from you. Thank you
Sure no problem mate drop me a message on Facebook or Instagram :)
I been landing Mackerel with 4lb line and 2-6lb rated rod with 7g Kastmaster lures. Super fun. 😊
Bet that's good fun :)
@@TheEastbourneFisherman Yes! Try it. 😊
Nice to see its not packed there. Went to Chesil and there were camps set up with a production line. 30 or so fisherman, chucking their mackerel up the beach, to the teams in gazebos cleaning and putting the fish in cool boxes. We were there 18 hours bait fishing, and they didn't stop feathering once, must have been doing shifts
Yeah thats not good :( some people just have no respect for the sea or retaining our fish stocks :(
Great video pal i will subscribe to your channel 👍🏻 well impressed and that rod i fancy i will have a look and see if i can get one
Thanks for the sub and watching my channel :)
Great video bro for beginners. In New Zealand when fish boil like that something is after them. Might be worth flicking a 60 gram 140mm stickbait or popper out, hopefully catch a big bass. Thanks for the great video
Thanks for watching and the advice I will deffo try this :)
You made that look easy 😂
Some days it can be!
Another tip if your fishing off a pier or breakwater is people often gut and dehead mackerel and throw it into the sea so basically ground baiting...a head down the side of the structure is a killer for bass
Cheers for commenting deffo gonna give your idea a go when i go up the pier next :)
@@TheEastbourneFisherman it's all about giving little tips...the more people getting into fishing and sticking with it is important mate
@@markypatt8340 totally agree
I do alot of youtube helping kids into sea fishing via my facebook group
Its important to guide the next anglers into the sport
Is crazy here we’re I live in Long Beach California the Asians people take 5 gallons buckets full of mackerels I think is a bit to much but I really enjoy fishing for mackerel
Yeah it's the same here :( only take what you need is my opinion :=)
Very good, you could also advise people for an easier release they could crush the barbs on their feathers
Great Idea never thought of that will add it onto an update if I do another video this year on mackerel
Thank you :)
Dry good mate
Great video. Thanks! Any advice on what the length of the shockleader should be?
Thanks so much :)
If normal bait fishing or feathering for mackerel with a 12ft plus rod
Usually it's twice the rod length plus a dozen turns round the reel
Asso do a tapered leader which is amazing
If lure fishing I tend to use about a 2ft leader of flurocarbon which hangs out the tip of my rod on the cast
Hope this helps
@@TheEastbourneFisherman cheers!
Mate this is the best starter video.. I'm just about to go fishing in the next few days either at Brighton or Eastbourne. This really helped me out, should I get a couple of rigs and weights incase I ruin or get snagged up.
Thanks mate :)
With mackerel fishing you will v rarley get snagged up as your casting and reeling straight in keeping it higher in the water.
But its always good to have spare bits incase you do loose something.
Happy fishing :)
@@TheEastbourneFisherman Thanks for the response much appreciated. I'll let you know how I get on.
Great video mate...are the mackerel still being caught today would u know
Hi Darren thanks mate :) nothing showing atm, however this week is calm and sunny so possiblity of seeing a return in the shoals, hopefully :)
Another good video cobber i used to make my own mackerel feathers and i would pickup white bait and coat them in flour and fry them . Do u ever smock any of the mackerel o m g thay taste so good been smocking yellow eyed mullet we caught this morning. Happy catching from AUSTRALIA Nick
Hay Nick yeah i do smoke them they taste amazing. I have also made my own feathers before but for the cost of a pack here around £1.30 itz easier to buy them!
Crackin video, thanks very much. I went out and caught 10 just like that....cooked them up, delicious just with seasalt n pepper . Thanks for the excellent advice. Do you think its worth going out early October....west coast Scotland area?
Hi mate thanks for watching and your comment, im not sure in scotland as i have never fished there :) my facebook group uk & ireland sea anglers may be able to help you should join
Lucky for some , every single location in Scotland and most of England the mackerel were absolutely shite , Really small this year
Oh no we been having really good runs down here for last few years last year when this was filmed the sea exploded with them was best season by far.
@@TheEastbourneFisherman I was catching plenty , When I found out they had arrived I caught around 50 odd my first session but the biggest I caught over the space of 2 months was a normal sized eating mackerel , the rest were all around 20-25cm maybe
Great video, really helped as I want to take my kids this summer. Is it shock or shot leader and how long should that be?
Thanks
Shock leader as it takes the impact (shock) of the cast
Asso tapered leaders I have found to be the best :)
An excellent and informative video. You kept saying that the sea was boiling with fish but unfortunately it didn't show on the video, I assume that most of those fish went back, as you caught so many.
Suprised that you didn't say anything about taking some of those whitebait back to eat, they're delicious.
Hi Tony thanks for watching :) if you skip to 11.05 in the video it will show what I mean - anglers refer to it as boiling of the sea (lots of splashes on the surface from the fish) cheers
Im not a big fan of the white bait tbh good bait for dabs tho
Nice…Welldone mate….where is the location in this video….I wanna go there and try for mackerels….you really motivated me mate😊
Cheers for your ace comment this was langney point in Eastbourne
However atm the water is too dark and nof clear so might not be good
Need hotter weather with no wind for few days for them to show properly again in high numbers :)
@@TheEastbourneFisherman thank you so much mate…hope one day I will see you there and learn from you. Cheers mate 👍
Hey! Thank you very much for your instructions, just ask, do we need a license for sea fishing like you did for today?
No licence my friend in the UK
Try using a 1/4 or 1/2 oz. Swim bait instead of sinker, you'll be pleasantly surprised 😊
Cheers mate will give it a go :)
Hi great video, any idea where I can buy 4oz pyramid leads, I’m new to sea fishing so any advice would be appreciated 👍
Your local tackle shop will stock them :)
Do you have a beginners video on Bass fishing please.

Did you use to fish in Newhaven? You look very familiar! I've just gone to Peacehaven Angler and got my wife a rod and reel for mackerel, I should still have some rods in the garage for myself. You said July to September is Mackerel season, when would you suggest to be the best time to go fishing though? We're taking our 6 year old, that's why I ask. Very helpful video too, got a lot of information to start fishing again! Subbed to the channel too!
Hi mate :) fished newhaven a few times not my regular tho.
For mackerel 2 hours before high tide to 2 hours after usually best times.
Happy fishing :)
@@TheEastbourneFisherman I was reading the comments and finding advice and hints from others too and saw your name, if you own a couple of gorgeous Fiestas then that'll be where I remember you from, along with a car club from 10+ years ago 😂
Perfect, I'm hoping I'll be out tomorrow fishing for the first time in a long time, it's been so long, I was clueless about how to set up a decent rig but this has helped so much, fingers crossed for a good session 🤞
I enjoyed watching your video, i been in chesil beach last Saturday and unfortunately all of my 5 lures and weight gone and snap off, I did not notice that my ceramic tip is broken. And also too much wave and windy.
On no was you using mackerel feathers or lures
I think Chesil beach may not be the best place to fish with lures
You need more reefy places or sunken boulders and structure
@@TheEastbourneFisherman feathers I'm just a newbie so I haven't done lure's but I seen on your view about the lures you been using, so I will try that soon
Great video. Is it best to fish on full tide .thanks
2 hours before high to 2 hours after
Happy fishing :)
@@TheEastbourneFisherman thanks. Love the channel, just subscribed.
Hi Jason just wanted to ask if month of October there is more mackerel👌
Hi Filipe weather needs to be calm and sea clear
There is a possibility the mackerel will return once the weather is calmer but atm its too windy and the sea is too coloured :)
Love the video and would love to fish there, but my recent expereinces of beach fishing have yielded no fish at all. Do you fish along the beachfront at Eastbourne or Langley point and what is the best time of year to go? Its May now, but the weather is still unsettled and not to warm. When do the whitebait come in. Sorry, but I am a novice and have only been fishing a few times, so want some encouragement. :)
Hi Brian thanks for watching my video :)
All along langney point area you will catch fish
Lugworm is a good all round bait to start with and should see you well.
Mackerel tend to arrive once its constantly warm and settled weather most seeing them arrive in eastbourne from end of july through august, sometimes a bit earlier or later on occasions.
Happy fishing :)
@@TheEastbourneFisherman Thanks for the info/encouragement. Mid may and the weather is looking good for the next few weeks (famous last words! :) so I will try to get there from Guildford when I know the weather is favourable. Must remember to bring my sun factor 50 and a hat though.. :) Bri
Do you bleed them, if you do how, or dispatch them or none of the above? Nice video :)
Dispatch quickly by pulling head back
Great video! I've been told that you fish 2 hours before high tide, then 1 hour at HT, then 2 hours as it goes back out..is this correct? Thanks
Hi Michael thanks mate :)
Yeah thats when i fish 👍
2 hours before to 2 hours after
Early mornings are good too :)
great video and tutorial. im travelling to cornwall in a month and was thinking about trying to catch some mackerel down there. . would i need a license to fish in the sea? .
Thanks Paul :)
NICE one you will deffo catch in Cornwall 👍
You do not need a licence to fish the sea in the UK
However if targeting sea trout you will need to obtain a licence for this
Thanks mate so want to try a catch n cook. im new to this and love the outdoors more bushcraft than fishing . but its just another feather to my cap. keep up the great advice and videos ..
@@TheEastbourneFisherman
Hello. You’ve mentioned putting either a 2oz lead sinker or a spinner at the end of the line. Most of the dexter wedges I’ve found online are less than 2oz, will these suffice?
Hi thanks for watching 14 to 25g will be fine just to add a bit of weight onto the feathers :)
loved this video, i watch it every week
i went to mackerel fishing with my cousins coz they got a van,
now i wanna go on my motorcycle
so i want to ask,
can i go mackerel fishing with a telescopic 10ft rod? wich i can fit on my backpack?

100 percent you can fish with a telescopic rod :)

How have I not found this video sooner? In Dorset where I am, the mackerel seem to be not so numerous, but I will keep looking for the boiling as you suggest!
They should be there this weekend :) fish over the High tide :)
Wait what’s the lure called the has 4 lures on the line? The one that you said about you liked the shrimp one, I want to get one but to get one online
I think they called sabiki
hi, do you have to do this from the beach or can you fish from cliff rocks/ harbours?
Can fish from anywhere if they are there :)
Stupid question maybe but I like eating white bait if I ever came across white bait beaching can I take that as well?
Yeah you can lightly fried is v nice check for cooking instructions on google :)
Just to clarify as soon as it hits the water u reel in ? I’m new to sea fishing and will attempt this first top video should have 1m views
Cheers mate
Yeah cast out then reel in if you feel a hit a slight pause can help you hook into more faster but pause then back to reel don't pause too long if that makes sense
Happy fishing
Hello, can you tell me in which month it is best to catch it, please
Depends on location some places all year round.
Eastbourne end june - maby end sept depending on weather
can you catch anything other than mackerel with feathers?
You will pick up the odd bass too :)
I think you need a bigger bucket Kkkkkkkkk😂😂
Deffo note for next year! They do mKe for good eating :)
Please let me know where the location is in Eastbourne for Mackerels Fishing Thank you
Bit too late now most have gone further out
Hi what’s the postcode for makeral fishing
There is no postcode mate just go to the beach and fish when they are there :)
Is this place Eastbourne Fishing pier?
Eastbourne beach
Is this september ?
So is this how it's done when fishing for mackerel? You just cast the line out and then reel it back in and cast it out again?
Yes mate that is it
Cast out
Reel in
Stop the reel
Then start again
Some people sweep the rod to the side on the stop
Then carry on again
@@TheEastbourneFisherman that's amazing, why do it like that though is there a reason why?
The mackerel are chasing white bait
Your feathers imitate the white bait fleeing. So when you reel and pause reel and pause that's what is replicating the feeding pattern and the mackerel will strike the feathers thinking it is white bait
@@TheEastbourneFisherman great! Thanks so much!
