You mentioned the benefit of a top feeder being it can hold 2.5 gallons. But that is also negative - giving TOO MUCH feed at once can cause problems (mold, mildew, sugar water spoiling, etc). Top feeders also give Small Hive Beetles a place to hide where bees cannot control them.
Also, the frame feeders: many people simply have a frame feeder in EVERY brood box and leave them there. So if you have 2 brood boxes, you do not have to move the top box in order to feed the bees...
And I cannot believe you did not mention the *major* disadvantage of Boardman feeders --> they cause robbing. It's basically putting food right at the entrance to a hive which will attract bees from other hives to come gather their food. During dearth times, this can cause major robbing issues. It's such a disadvantage that I quit using Boardman feeders entirely. Forever.

I run two double deep brood box. Why do you recommend placing frame feeder in bottom brood box?

I wondered how you might consider these feeders in terms of what people might need a setup for, for dry, arid areas like hot dry Arizona, New Mexico, etc.
Some places don't get much rain in the southwest. I'm in the southwest.
But many beekeeper videos don't really talk about this, and are from areas where they have abundance of water all the time. This leaves some knowledge gaps for some of us that are more concerned about water management than others.
I wonder how you might compare these tools with what someone would need for desert beekeeping specifically, and the type of setup someone would need for this type of climate. These areas do have beekeepers in them, so some people must be getting it to work. But you don't here them talk about it, and how they differ in approaches.
Maybe you could go into this a bit. Or reply.

With a top feeder, do I have to worry about sugar water fermentation after even just one week? I have been told that a hive is unlikely to consume more than 1 gallon in a week, but clearly the top feeder holds several gallons. Can I really be away from feeder for two weeks? I live 70 miles from my hives.

Do you really need these feeders when you have lots of vegetation close by?
