BEEKEEPING: When TOO MUCH Honey Becomes Dangerous
Переглядів 5 тис.3 місяці тому
The effects of a honey bound hive can be serious if the queen runs out of space to lay. Keeping at least 6 frames with space to lay in the middle of the brood nest area is critical during the summer months. If you over feed or under super, the bees can fill the brood area with excess food. Blake walks us through how to identify and fix this issue!

Thank you for the information. Appreciate it
great video!! short sweet and simple...thank you sir!
Have you done any research on the condensating hive. Lots of good articles about it completely sealing up your colonies with on upper ventilation just leaving a bottom entrance.
Yes, the key is certainly to have that upper entrance!
@thebeesupply the condensing hive does not have an upper entrance.
Thank you for the video
I try to build up my hives with winter bees in the late summer. They are overwintering in NY and I check them every few days without opening them up with my FLIR camera. I also check there using Broodminder. I pop the lid every 2 weeks to add Hivealive fondant if needed. It’s been working out pretty well for me as I only have a few hives. OA treatments coming soon too. I wish you a Happy Thanksgiving and I enjoy all of your videos.
That's great to hear! Sounds like a great plan. Happy Thanksgiving!
Mistakes are often the best Teacher, it happens don't let it stress ya. New beekeepers need to understand, Bees Die it's no fun but not a Loss if you Lear From It. Thanks for sharing your time with us, Blessed Days...
It's so true!!
Awesome information! Thank you!
Excellent information
What do you do with your internal feeder during the winter? Do you leave it?
You can also put more supers on if she lays in the lower supers
Thank you for making these videos!
Excellent!
Thanks for the info
Hi your video very nice. What's type of CO2 to make bees sleep?
Thank you for sharing your time to do this video.
What kind of entrance is on this hive. It looks like a deep box is below the entrance.
We were actually using a deep box as a hive stand.:)
Your a smart man
How much money did it take to buy in at first?
30k?
Hey TBS. These videos have great content, but that intro jingle is SO DAMN LOUD compared to Blake's voice volume. Can you please tone down the intro music to better match the audio level of the video?
This video was super helpful. Thankyou so much
i would like you to do a video on your large scale 30,,000 hives so we have a understanding what it takes to tend to 30,000 colonies , that a lot of bees,, show us how to do that, please, thank you
30000 bees not hives, guys lying
@@menodelarosa7358 30,000 bees are in 1 hive
Great video, thank you so much ♥️
Awww bummer! I missed the sale by a day. Love the great info though!
incredible that you claim to personally oversee 30,000 hives per year. cannot take this company seriously.
I thought those were wax moth larva
Great video! Straight to the point! Thanks!
How do you get around 30,000 hives?
Well...that's a long story.:) But it started with a few hives, lots of splits, and growing over 22 years.:)
I have had the same problem during my history with bees. I would try to find out why they were weak. If the queen was old, I would pinch her, then give the combs to several other colonies. Then make splits in the spring.
Great video straight to the point thank you so much for posting it.
Impressive follow your gut you will do fine ❤
Good advice Blake. One of the best things about getting to 10 or more hives is to not sweat so much over the weak ones and having the resources to help them if you want to.
So true!!
You are running 30,000 hives?
How?
Like your knowledge. Sounds good
Lots of great help.:)
I bougjt half a semi load fr9m you last year to help me boost my operation, they were great bees and made alot of honey!
Thank you for these informative monthly webinars. Question for future issues of your online and printed publications: Many of the beekeepers that I work with in Central TX have Top Bar hives, including myself. Would it be possible to include a segment or mention strategies for Top Bar beekeepers during each of your monthly updates? Thank you for your consideration.
Thank you! Very thorough. I looked at other videos but they were only working with one hive box and I have two boxes. I was not sure if you needed to put the strips just on the one lower box or not.
I put apigurad in 3 hives last month. 1 week later 2 hive where dead. Bottom board was full of dead bees. All other bees where gone. Read where high temps could effect apigurad treatment and make it deadly. Is that true.
Ha Blake thanks for reposting and doing in the bee yard again the sound was great hope you have a blessed week.
Maybe you should call it "TOO MUCH FAKE Honey Becomes Dangerous" or instead of Fake Honey you can just call it Sugar/syrup liquid
Thank you for your videos, very informative. A question, when feeding pollen pattie’s, I see you feeding them a whole slab and other times you feed two good sized pieces. How do we know how much should we feed a hive? I have been feeding very small pieces per hive. Is that too little?
I live right down the road and up until about a week ago we had tons and tons of wild sunflowers where I think they were getting a lot of their pollen from. I’m not seeing any sunflowers with pollen on them anymore though. Do you see a fall nectar flow after right now into about mid October when it cools off pretty good?
Usually there is a pretty good pollen flow in early October from the broom weed. Nectar can be pretty iffy though.:)
lol New Brunswick is 2 hours away from my area we have the same winters it’s cool you have been in around my area now you can understand why I can’t split in fall😅
Makes sense!!:)
You guys can do fall splits up here in Canada we can’t do that
We have so much pollen flow in Nova Scotia Canada we don’t need pollen
best teaching videos!!
Video title says fall splits…actual video, hive inspection only no split or change seen. I don’t get it. 😢
I’m half Polish. I just started trying to learn Polish. Whew. It’s something. 😊 I took Spanish for 9 years (1st to 9th grade). I wasn’t fluent but knew some. I wish I remembered more. When you don’t use it, you lose it. 😢
why dont you use your screened patty trays?
Good question.:) For Stan's Sugar Bricks, I always use the screen tray. For pollen patties, I usually just use them if I have a reason to be concerned about SHBs.
That would make the hive beetles sooo happy!
They can-we just make sure to only give a hive enough of a pollen patty that they can eat in about 7 days. Or, we use one of our screen patty trays that keeps the patty lifted off the top bars.
