Nice honey hole you found. Just a little advice you should leave the thin ones that have a smaller diameter than a pencil so they produce better for next year, they are young and if you leave them they will produce a stronger base to keep producing for years to come....and they will come back fatter next year!

Yea, this patch has been producing for literally years, big mature plants..honestly the small ones are some of the tastiest and we have never seen any signs of damge to the plants, personal preference really. This particular location produces hundreds of lbs every season and it's just been thriving year upon year. If it were some baby plants in my garden that I was trying to grow, your theory would make sense. 🤟😎

Been there twice, you are lucky to live there. Didn’t know you had this available.

Honestly it grows in many places, most are unaware of its identity. Very fortunate to be able to harvest such nutritious treats. 🙏👍

It's in the Southern Okanagan, unfortunately no direct locations but it grows almost everywhere throughout the Okanagan.👍😎

the best time to locate it is in the fall when the ferns turn bright yellow and orange..then take note of locations and go back in the spring.

Great question!! Spring is the time, the weather is the key, moisture, temperature ect. Late April/May is a good bet.

I was told to cut them under the dirt so more grows

I usually just snap them off, it's simple and clean, the lower sections tend to be extremely tough which is not pleasant..i don't believe it effects the production weather you snap off or cut below the dirt..the plants will re grow new spears consistently through the season as long as the weather is right for it in my experience. Just remember to leave a few spears to go to fern if you want to reharvest the following year..🤟😁

Cutting under the dirt will damage the plant, always cut above
