Thank you for your efforts to preserve this hard-working breed. My grandfather worked Punches in Melbourne Australia for most of his life. He loved his Punches and swore by them, working teams off the wharves till 54. My Father, who went to work with his Dad told me GF occasionally linked 3 teams together and was quite a sight hauling massive Timber Beams through the city streets to the Mill.
Excellent delivery of this very important breed information. Thank you for sharing the particulars of this outstanding draft breed on both sides of the Atlantic. Their temperament makes them so very special.🐴
My Granddaddy and my father both grew up on the same farm in the Ohio Valley, USA. Their farmland that their ancestors, (Scottish Conscript soldiers), were given for fighting in the American Revolution, as well as their citizenship. By 1950’s my dad’s kin were still using only horse power, their primary horses were drafts, my dad favorite was a Suffolk Punch. My dad and his 5 siblings rode the Punch and a Percheron to a one room school house everyday, after they arrived at school, my eldest uncle would tie the Percheron to the Punch and the Punch would lead them back to the farm. In the afternoon, my grand daddy would tie the Percheron, Crusher to the Punch, Puller and he’d lead the, back to the school to pick up all the kids. Though my dad’s kin eventually got a tractor, they always kept the draft horses, (and still do), we all know drafts can go and do when the snow is deep and all machinery frozen and bogged down, in my dads time Ohio regularly got appx 10’, (3.05 meters), of snow annually. The stories my siblings grew up hearing of people settling this nation are incredible and I am glad the S. Punch was part of it. In the 1700’s the state of Ohio was dangerous Indian country, settlers often spent many a night inside the a local stockade to avoid being raided and or slaughtered. My Scottish ancestors on that farm lost all their neighbors one night who didn’t think an attack would occur and they didn’t go to the stockade, 5 families perished. Thank you for preserving the legacy of the S. Punch, that helped and help humans generations and the world.
Horse Plus Humane Society just took in a horse that looks like it could be a Suffolk Punch. I don't know how he could have ended up as a throw away. At least he didn't go to slaughter
I love that breed, I slept with them, they feel me, I don't want sex, I love horses, I adore them, my grandfather had horses and foals all his life, I drew foals, I taught them life training, sometimes they bit me, but nothing, I'm from Lithuania, I live in Edinburgh, I'm nostalgicbuy a ticket😂

At Gressenhall in Norfolk you can take a ride on a cart pulled by Suffolks. Great for kids and adults!

I would love to ride a Suffolk horse. I can see they would make good riding horse as well as in harness.
