Super Long track Rc Snowmobile - Is longer really better?

  • I later calculated the equivalent length of the skid, and I end up with a theoretical 245'' equivalent skid. Pretty impressive!
    You might think that it is lacking power, but it is really not. It has a big power combo from castle and with a similar ''normal'' track it can pull wheelies all day long. With the increased load and weight, it was only a matter of time before the gears had enough, and its actually the Traxxas spur gear that failed at 4:37, not my gearbox. (Yay!)
    Ps, Decagon part 2 was not ready for this weeks video, It'll come up in (hopefully) a week or less from now, same goes for the rc sled collection sale video.
    Leave suggestions on things to test, I do still read every comments!

    Ive been following you for a few years now. I love that you're testing new configurations all the time. What works for a full size snowmobile (dimensions, skis, track dimensions, center of mass, etc) may not work as well when it is scaled down. It is so much work to research this stuff and it is soooo cool you are doing it. With RC cars being as ridiculous as they are today it makes me wonder why Traxxas or one of the other big brands haven't figured out RC snowmobiles. Have you thought about increasing rotational mass for stability like RC motorcycles? (gyro effect) On full scale machines the rider provides a lot of stability by leaning which is tough to replicate on an RC. I think with you're determination, testing, and constant refinements, you will truly have an awesome RC Snowmobile that is incredibly fun to drive. Keep it up!

      I do appreciate the feedback! I like to do these kind research personally too.
      The track is between 8 to 10% of the weight of the machine. It actually has a lot in of inertia, especially and the speed at which they are spinning. If you have a nice ramp to launch it, and drive it properly, you can almost do a tailwhip. I'll do my best to insert a clip in a futur compilation!

      This is a good idea, would be sick to have a wheel radio with a thumbstick for your left thumb that would move a driver around. I think the sled would have to be bigger though to fit a doll that advanced on it and keep the weight ratios between the two right.

      It would most likely help get out of the snow easier but you would still have no control other than in a straight line. The track would still not dig and get to the stiffer stuff down there, So I still believe a regular 165 or 154 is a better option in a deep snow senario.
      I like the suggestion tho👍

    The problem is when you increased the length of the track, the weight of the machine is spread out across a bigger suface area which is making the snowmobile “float” on the top of the snow.
    The easiest thing to do would be to increase the depth of the lugs,
    Just for the hell of it, I would find out the weight of a mountain sled and divide that across the surface area of the full size track. I would also compare the lug depth compared to the length of the track.
    Do the math and you can figure out the PSI And compare it against your RC to see if you’re even in the neighborhood

    • @Pascal_Robert--Rc_Creations
      @Pascal_Robert--Rc_Creations  7 місяців тому

      You are correct, and understand about 90% of it. There's also a difference in how the snow itself is at that scale. The snow particules does not scale up and down with the scale of the machine. So you are never going to have a perfect apple to apple comparison. The only exception is when the snow is crusty or straight up ice, but that ain't as fun :)

    • @Pascal_Robert--Rc_Creations
      @Pascal_Robert--Rc_Creations  3 роки тому +1

      You are not the only person that came up with the idea. The problem is that even if you did it, you cant react fast enough at that scale to control it prefectly. Sure practice helps, but look at a real rider go. He's not only going side to side, he's back on the boards, walking the sled, foot down, all that makes it difficult to replicate, and even harder to control quickly and precisely.
      The idea is good and ill likely look back into it some day, but the challenge is immense

    Maybe paint the sled anything but white so it shows up on the cam. also needs LONGER lugs like a Mountain sled, the track is too long for the rest of the scale of the sled. that causes it to roll more from what i am seeing.
    I think for the deep powder you have to scale the entire SLED UP not just the track because sometimes when we scale things down, they dont react the same as in a 1:1 rig. looking fwd to seeing more from you,

    • @actionsportster7686
      @actionsportster7686 3 роки тому +1

      I agree. the long track provides greater flotation to back half of the sled, where it is already lighter than the front half, causing the front of the sled to sink or nose dive. The only thing to counter balance the weight difference is track speed. But increasing the spin of the track also has a downside ... it contributes to trenching. You need all of these things working together to create forward momentum. You have to find a balance between track flotation, weight distribution and power.
