Looks great. On my JD mower, I installed a marine type squeeze bulb on the gas line and give it a few squeezes before starting up (on cold start). Makes a WORLD of difference on crank time. Right around where your fuel filter is at.
That's a nice striper, I like the brush concept and it seems to work well. I saw a video of a guy that has a zero-turn with forks in front that pull the blades up before cutting then brushes them to then be perfectly rolled...amazing stripes!
Pretty nice review! Probably going with this JD striping kit for my new JD tractors I'd like to make the janky DIY one for $20, but I frequently back up and don't really know whether anyone considered what happens when you back over a PVC pipe full of rocks and sand while the mower blades are running. The brush solution avoids that issue altogether.
His mower has the Accel Deep deck- it has better vacuum suction than the normal Edge Deck (1" flatter in the rear), which helps out with the clumping already if you want mow faster. Ultimately, mowing slower and at a higher deck height with proper mulching blades (which help with the vacuuming) will allow more processing time to avoid clumps.
Yep, there are a lot of free/almost free options but they have downsides. Dragging something behind you means when you go over hard surfaces it drags on those too.
at the time of the video i didn't, but for the past year i have had the john deere mulch kit with the included mulching blades. Absolutely love it, probably more then the striping kit because its allowed me to no longer bag leaves
My 2012 Cub Cadet RZT 50 makes stripes like that....without a striping kit lol. However, I just bought a JD Z920M so we will see how it does without a kit.
That stripes very nice. I actually zip tied a finish concrete broom to my manual 7 blade earthwise and it did an ok job. Does better than the little rollers on it.
Removing the key and sparkplug is to keep idiots from trying g to put it on while it's running. Did you REALLY have to remove the key and plug wire.. and what's a "socket wrench"?
I've used it for every mow for the past 3 years, and i'm surprised it hasn't worn down yet. It still stripes as good as the day i got it. highly recommend
Al Beebe Thanks for responding. I was at the JD Dealer today ordering one. $100 A roller stripper is almost 3 times more $. I’ll let you know how I like it in a couple weeks.
@@mikemorris8497 taller you mow the darker the stripes, mow from SW->NE and NE->SW so they shine in the afternoon sun, the more you mow in the same direction the deeper the stripes get. Al Beebe I still like to change my direction when mowing. I have been at my property 22 years.14000 sf TTTF/ KBG mix. For 10 years I mowed mostly the same direction, and the lawn gets a washboard look. Especially when it’s dormant during winter. I don’t have that issue any more. If we are having a party or something I’ll mow the same direction 2-3 times to define the stripes. Learned that from Pete GCI Turf.
@@micholob86 what would I search for. I tried searching the site for lawn stripping or stripping brush. What should I look for. I need a new brush. Thanks.
How fast do the bristle wear out? Or better yet, are the bristles looking like they'll last long? Thinking about buying but someone said just make one out of chains
ANTHONY SOPRANO commercial vs homeowner. The ballfield mower is going to mow more grass in 1 year vs what a homeowner is going to mow in 20. Brush wouldn’t last long enough.
because golf courses and sports fields mow at sub 1" heights while landscapers and home owners ( which this product is intended for ) tend to cut well above 2 inches...
I couldn’t believe you actually took the key out and pulled the spark plug wires.... but then you got confused about bolt size vs nut size, tried to use a 3” bolt to attach the thin metal bracket, and installed carriage bolts backwards. Sticking to every letter of the instructions is probably a good idea for you.
The first two bolts you put in upside down. The square part of the bolt goes in the square hole.
Steve Wright damn, good eye. i totally missed that
I saw that and it bothered me. lol

3:02 so….your carriage bolts are in upside down….the square at the bolt head matches the square hole on the mounting bracket 😉
ill admit im an idiot haha
Came here to comment this. 👌🏼
First time buying one and we love it

Can someone tell me if there is something similar for my scag patriot '52
Wow Great instruction video.. I was inspired to finish putting my kit. on. Back surgery eight weeks ago slowed me down some, but can't wait.
Did you leave the brush all the way down
Is the kit universal to all Deere 42 inch decks
Looks good. Did you do your second cut pass at a lower cut height ?
Seemed like there was decent lines before you even mowed though?
Great job 👏🏼, Happy Birthday 🎂. Your lawn looks magnificent!
Does this kit help to eliminate any grass clumps that mulching occasionally leaves on the surface of the lawn by brushing them into the turf?

How long is the actual striper
Looks nice. I tied a piece of chain link fence and dragged it for mine.

Do you have a mulch kit, gator blades etc on your mower great stripes.

I love UA-cam. Anytime I have questions, someone has made a video about it!👍🏻
Bolts were upside down at the beginning of the install, good review though 👍
Wonder if it fits on x320

5/16 refers to the size of the inside hole. Not the outside

5/16 refers to the bolt size not the socket size.. they tricked you
Mike Beebe yah i'm an idiot. realized this after i posted.
i heard that the best cure for "over lawning" is more blowjobs
Removing the key and sparkplug is to keep idiots from trying g to put it on while it's running. Did you REALLY have to remove the key and plug wire.. and what's a "socket wrench"?
It does a good job. How thick is the brush? I'm thinking about buying the brush and making my own striper for another machine.
94BULLITT it’s about as thick as a typical household broom, and the green brushes are not very stiff.
1/2 drive bolt is 5/16-18 thread pitch
Does not fit the Z335?
i have a z335e from home depot and it fits my mower
How is the brushes holding up three years later? I’m ready to go buy one instead of a roller.
I've used it for every mow for the past 3 years, and i'm surprised it hasn't worn down yet. It still stripes as good as the day i got it. highly recommend

Are you going to do a lawn up date video ?
I bought the brush kit, do you leave the brush on the ground for the initial cut?
Do you run hi-lift blades?
i've been using the john deere mulching blade all season for 2 years
Looks great with striping kit. How do the stripes look before you installed the kit? Thanks
You still have the JD? Im thinking of buying one but I have THICK grass lol seems like a good mower
i still have and i still love it. The cut quality is excellent, gas mileage is great, and its fast.
@@AlBeebe Nice!! I'm thinking about it! Thanks man!
5/16 is the bolt size buddy
Al, once striped, how long does the striping show. I would assume as the grass recovers and grows, the stripes disappear rather quickly, n'est-ce pas?
Welsh Rabbit they last between mows and if you mow the same direction each time they just keep getting better and better
I might be late to reply but you can find a suitable replacement brush for a little of nothing through McMaster Carr

@@dancikovic4598 they are just industrial brushes, not lawn brushes specifically. take measurements and find one that has the same measurements.

Very nice touch. I'm running a brush on my Z445 and Z540M they work very well even with a 54 inch decks.
Must be a Briggs engine, started right up, mine have Kawasaki engines and they start sluggish but run great....
I had a briggs intek 20hp vtwin. From brand new started up slow until warm. Was very reliable though

bhrojas09 bristles after one season barely look worn out. It’s john deere, they’re high quality.
Mine lasted 3 seasons before the bristle strands slowly fell out, looking to purchase another this season.
Damn that looks nice!
Lawn looks great! What's the model number on your striping kit? I have a z335e as well and having trouble finding one online for this model.

Great video and I agree ... wow
Kind of cheap that John Deere would supply a brush as a stripper and not a roller.
ANTHONY SOPRANO that was my initial thought but i’m now if the opinion that the brush works the same if not better then a roller
@@AlBeebe okay, wonder why the grounds crew in MLB ball parks don't use brushes then instead of rollers
