- In this Video you will learn how to extract elevation from google earth and you use them to create contours in qgis or arcgis.
This method is useful for creating a quick DEM ( digital elevation models) for visualisation purposes.

Hi. Thank you for a very informative video. When I convert the kmz file in GPS Visualizer to plain text, it does not give me the elevation data. Is there something I could be doing wrong in google earth?
Thanks for the video. Contour coordinates are coming in latitude and longitude but actually I need in UTM coordinates system (wgs 84).can we get the details from this coordinates. Please help
hey Kali, you can easily do that in qgis just import the shape file , then search for "Reproject" in the qgis tool box , then reproject the layer from WGS84 to any other system in the world.
it can make the detail topography? because i tried once but there is difference between the cross section from this contour and the elevation profile in the google earth, what method can we use to get the detail topography? thanks before..
unfortunately there is no methods that will give you detailed topography for free , if what you want is 30 m contours or more this method will work for you or check out this method :

google pro should do the job actually i m sure you missed something . but if you want get a topography i have other methods that you can use check the videos below

I enjoy your tutorials. I noticed my Google Earth Pro has a smaller menu (5 items) with fewer choices than on your video 12 items) - My 5 items are FILE - EDIT - VIEW - ADD - HELP
I was also wondering if there is a simple way to convert Lat-Long into NAD 27 or NAD 83 US Foot Coordinates? Maybe you have a tutorial or consult on this issues. Thank you

When I add the layer from the csv file and then click on "XYZ Tiles", I do not see the "ESRI Imagery Satellite" option.
Hey Tom you need to add them in the first time (New connection) then they will be available.
At the end you say “and make a topo map really easily”. Do you have a demo (link) on how to make that data into a topo map?
click on the toolbox, search for TIN interpolation or IDW use that layer as input click run
@@MiningGeologist- Is there any tutorials that you of. I found TIN interpolating but it opens a dialogue that looks like Greek. And I'm not Greek.

Are you serious? The video misses its very point , cause you don't show how to actually then use these magical coordinates to make CONTOUR topography lines. It doesn't teach what to do with and how to obtain the desired result.
Just use TIN interpolation or IDW in the tool box then generate the contours .

What? That didn't tell me anything. How do you get topography lines and download them to use in programs like Photoshop?
