To create a sliced terrain map from SketchUp location data, we're going to use the extension Joint Push Pull to create a solid from the terrain data, then use the extension slicer to slice the model into different planes.

we are a group of students from Dr Congo. your videos help us a lot to progress in learning Sketch up! God bless you!
You are incredible at teaching. I've modeled an entire house in Sketchup and then transferred it to Layout with floorplans and various viewpoints, all within one week of opening Sketchup for the first time ever-just from watching your videos. Now I'm onto a new project, trying to model a site in Uganda where the NGO I run is setting up a water service, and once again, your videos have rapid-fired knowledge and skills into my brain. It's like I'm matrix downloading skills, that's how good your videos are.
I realize this tutorial is almost three years old and there may be newer magic available now, but this was very very helpful. I'm switching over my CAD stuff to SketchUp Pro, and about ready to model a new house I'm designing, hoping to "place" it on a geolocated terrain model. So this--along with many of your other toots--was most welcome. Thanks again!

I have been looking for this for several months but didn't even know hat it is. Thanks. Subscribed.
Thanks for creating this video and others. They are a tremendous help in creating what I need to create while cutting the learning curve down to size.
👍😀
Thank you!
That was exactly the type of video i needed for some months!!!! Very great!

Thanks a lot justin, I was looking for this for a while and finally ended up with your video , thank you 🙏
Thanks so much been trying build and open cast mine into the side of a mountain with the geology below this is gonna be a huge help.
Thanks! This video may be a bit helpful as well - ua-cam.com/video/BmW900ZMV70/v-deo.html - Thanks!
Awesome! Thanks I have a large piece of property with terrain and I am designing the land planning. I want to see the low areas in order to provide lakes in them.
this is exactly something that I need in a lot easy way.
Try Rhino, it's much easier and faster to do that
Great! Answered a lot of questions I had about terrain modeling!
Thanks Micheal - Glad you found it helpful!

Thanks for this tutorial Justin ..it was very helpful !
Thanks for watching!
no doubt you are becoming a master in this ,keep it up...
Thanks very much! :)
This was great. Very helpful. Any thoughts on the best way/extension to trace or show the road?
Just what I was looking for. Thank you.
Glad I could help!
This is so cool 😭😭😭
Thank you ❤️
This offers so much opportunity for presentation of a proposed building to councils for approval purposes. Your detail is brilliant but perhaps a little more video clarity on the actual control keys for these operations would help. thanks for your great video.
Thanks for the feedback Darin - I probably should have spent a bit more time on the actual operation of the extensions - maybe an opportunity for a follow up video! Thanks again!
Amazing videos! So helpful thank you! Wish i knew these when i was in the uni!!!
Glad you like them!

Great tutorial dude!!! Thank you!
Thanks for watching!
Justin hello! Thanks for your tutorial. I'm an oldie-but-goodie (pre-computer age) back at school at UDC. Before I knew about all this I created my own terrain in SketchUp which is ass backwards. Because I think in reality as an adult you almost never have a flat surface to build on. Thanx!
Lol - you pretty much never get to start with a completely flat surface - that's why we have to hire earthwork contractors! :) Glad you found it helpful!
I liked the scientific ad that came before your tutorial also, about digitizing feedback from the universe. It prepares you for your tutorial.
Nice, I learned a lot from you
thanks so much, this video is very helpful. And is there any tutorial about putting buildings on this kind of terrain?
cool & really useful video Thank u so much
You are an angel!!!! Thank you so much!!!
Thanks!
Helpful videos, thank you
Glad you like them!
waw! thanks a lot man. keep it going.
Hi, I'm having a bit trouble the plug-in push and pull seems not working with Sketchup I can't able to run it.
try to download this first sketchucation.com/plugin/903-libfredo6 , then go to extension manager install both of it then restart your app
Thanks for this video. But I have question, how I can find that toggle terrain tools in sketch up 2018? you kind assistance is highly appreciated. thanks
Thanks so much for all the videos that you do. I'm a builder/owner trying to design our house, and your videos have been a huge help! I tried to enroll into your course, but it has already finished. Any chance you'll run another course? Thanks.
Hi Karin - I believe course registration will be opening up again in February(ish) - you can get on the list to get notified here - www.thesketchupessentials.com/course - thanks!
I agree with Darin, the Joint Push Pull along with slicer is a very quick and efficient tool for creating terrain.... However, for future video presentations I would appreciate a much more direct step by step in creating a simple terrain ( hold off on the sideline comments). Then address variations of results AFTER the initial process is revealed. Thank you for the time and effort, regardless.
Great Videos. Seems that joint push pull no longer availabale on sketchucation , and slicer not available for 2021 version... Any other ways to do something similar as depicted here ?
Thanks for share. I'm using Joint Push Pull LibFredo6, but it doesn't have Finishing & Border Option as yours. Any idea?
Hello, thanks for the tutorial. How can I import a bigger terrain? Should I manually intersect the frames everytime?
thank u. it's really help full for me
Awesome - thanks for watching!
thank you so much! super helpful
Glad it helped!
Hey , great tutorial but what happened to Slice5 in the extension warehouse? Is there another slicer add-on that will allow a terrain feature to be sliced and ready to send to CNC? I am trying to decide on software and looking for the fastest method. Any input would be helpful.
Is the link below the video not working for you?
Thaaaaaaank u
U are the king of skp
Bravo bro
very informative..... thanks
Thank you for the video! :)

Thank you Sir. Very useful video:)
Glad it was helpful!
Thanks dude! Great video as always... my question is: how accurate are the google maps terrains???

Thank you for this video.
I finally got what I was searching for after months of searching. Though I still need to figure out a lot of other things. (Proper placement of plots to the terrain, etc.)
BTW, what would happen if I pressed 'Yes' to 'Outlines of adjacent spaces'? I tried that option, but it only looked the same if I pressed 'No"

Thank You for Tutorial ! Mr. Justin Geis I hope you to make more tutorial !
Thanks very much!
I just found your channel, it seems that you have very cool videos, a question i have is where the add location button is located in sketch up?
You're awesome!!!
Útil y rápido. 100% recomendado.
😎
Amazing!
How can I import data from Total station & GPS receiver?
Hello sir, What is the extension used? Is it a free version in extension warehouse?
Thank you, this helped me a lot!
Thanks for watching!
Hello, I would like to show contour lines on agricultural land. I use sketchup 2017. But it is not possible to choose a type of map (like google earth with satellite view) Only . How do I find the option to change my map? Thank you for your precious help.
first of all thanks for the video and ı have a problem ı download the plugin but there are not two options near the finishing. bolder and near the bolder. how can ı fix it
Great thank you
Can you add roads and utilities into the mix on this program?
Thank you for the video
Thanks for watching!
hi, thanks for ur great tubes. slicer is working but push pull is not showing up on the sketchup after I downloaded from below pls help> i do not why
This was GREAT. Seriously. Thank you-
Also, I looked everywhere for the "project on plan" option but it's just nowhere to be found. I couldn't find it in additional settings or anything
I think in the new version of the extension, there's a right arrow that you have to click labeled "More options" or something on the left hand side of the toolbar. Give that a try and let me know if it helps!
I also couldn't find "project on plan" option. Its hard to see the "more options" button on the tool strip.
Look for three little green arrows like this "
@@Thesketchupessentials Hey!, What the name of the new extension? Cant find the jointpushpull one on sketchup..
Hi buddy, does sketch up 2018 currently has this add location option?
Hi! Great video, any tipos on how to place multiple buildings in this terrain? i have over 100 surfaces to pushpull to correct height and "attach" the floor to the terrain... thanks!
Hi there! You could try to extrude them first, then use an extension like this one (ua-cam.com/video/GaWf4O2VcIA/v-deo.html) to drop them onto the terrain - thanks!
Thank you sir
great one
Hi awesome video thanks. Would it be possible to 3D print this finished product ?
Great tutoral
Hello sir. I have a question. Please notice me. I have designed terrain/surface generated from civil 3D (.dwg) file. How can i import it into sketchup? In 1 month time i will be doing as built of a powerplant using sketchup. Me and my manager want to use sketchup in making this 3D presentation to client. Hope you reply. Thank you.
Hi. Trying to follow your great instructions but I just downloaded the JOINT PUSH PULL and the "project shape on a plane button" is not there. I am using SketchUpPro 2021. Can you please tell me how to find this function?! Thanks!
nad how can i do that in the Free 2017 Make version because there i only have the Street view and not the Satelite view
awesome!
once you get the slices...how do you revert back to the terrain?
I'm very new to this. I have been looking for a while to carve tarrain for different states on my CNC. Can you show a little more detail on getting the data, creating the state outlines and how to save it as an .stl of maybe even a gray scale height map without the slices? I would be extremely grateful

Excellent thanks
Thanks!
Hi thank you for this I just downloaded the push pull rbz file but it is not working on my skp 2021 can you help me by that
great stuff!
Thank you!
Is there any hope that we can get quality Google Earth in Sketchup again?
Unfortunately no - Google was the one that removed access to this functionality, not SketchUp. My understanding is that they wouldn't make access to their map data available anymore, meaning that SketchUp had to find a new provider for the data. I think everyone is struggling to find a replacement with the quality data that Google had.
Do you know if you can then import this file into solidworks?
good tutorial
are the scale accurate?
Great when I get Sketchup, I’m going to make a town out of this
Sounds fun :)
Thanks a lot!
Thanks for watching!
Great video
Thanks!
Thank you
I am using sketchup 2019 pro and I can not find install extension button in the extension manager
I've never heard of this issue
You are extremely helpful friend however I too am struggling with this - i can't make the bottom of the terrain flat when using the vector push pull - it seems to be missing from the link you provided - I'm running 2018 SKUP Pro please advise?
There should be a right arrow button in the newer versions of the add-on that pops out more options
@@Thesketchupessentials Wow, thanks for updating us on where Fredo hid that option. I was starting to panic thinking maybe he removed it :/
Hi! Question, how can I possibly create cut and fill in this kind of model, maybe even a basement cut? Do you also have tutorial on that?
Like this? ua-cam.com/video/aW1veScnQs0/v-deo.html
I tried the Geo location option and turning the terrain on but it gives me data which through physical survey i am sure isnt true. It shows me hills where there is clearly flat ground. Please let me know if there could be accuracy issue and the way it could be corrected. Note that the satellite image imported is on scale. Is the google satellite image from a very primitive time ?
Well I'm sure if it's showing hills, and then you go look at the area and there are no hills, it's an accuracy issue. I'm not really aware of a way to correct it short of getting grades for the site and plugging them into an extension like TopoShaper - ua-cam.com/video/-Jd-wiznAbo/v-deo.html
I have the same problem but I've come to the conclussion that th software takes the imput if heights for the satelites, so any height (including buildings) is taken as part of the terrain. So check if there's any high rise buildings in the site you're modeling.
hello dear
thanks a lot for these tutorials, was very useful.
i need to slice a bigger area, so i need to import multiple imagery and then I can not merge them or make them solid clearly, I tried to use some plugins for merging multiple solids but it had lots of errors on overlaps which is seems to impossible
Hmmm...haven't tried this, so not sure how I'd do it. You could maybe create multiple different sets of terrain, then use the subtract or merge tools in solid tools to merge them together...
Have you find out how to slice a bigger area? (maybe without using merge, because i dont have this extension and it's 15$...)
