Nick Reinhart is a musical genius and like offensively underrated
Not underrated, just unrecognized
@@alexheist4888 Not unrecognized, just unhonored
so fucking true
Prefer Spencer.
Everything good is under recognized now can't find real people to talk about anything with
Okay, when Tera Melos came the year (or two) before this, they played at the Biltmore. I was high on acid giving away apples freshly picked from the okanagan. Nick & Nate both took huge honey crisps. Nick said he would play super cool sounds for me. But noticed they didn't play 40 rods.
Night of this show, I approached Nick, "dude, you gotta play 40 rods tonight", Nick's all like, ask John. I approach Jon, hes stoked until I mention playing 40 rods then becomes serious.
I remember the look John gave Nick that night as they were playing 40 rods as an encore.
Fine.
Thanks John.
I'd imagine at the time, he wasn't completely comfortable with the song yet. I think not long before this show, they only played Ambassadors and the intro.
Or maybe it gets requested all the time and he's gotten sick of it. That probably the case now.
I admittedly can't really remember this exchange, but if there's ever reservation about playing 40 Rods, it's pretty much always a set time/curfew issue. I always enjoy playing this one :))
Dude, that Biltmore show, with Boris and Master Musicians of Bukkake? That show was nuts. I eventually got Wata's autograph that night. and Skerik took a sick photo of me with all the Tera Melos boys...man...
@@johnclardymusic hi John, sending love
MOM..?
My brother cannot stand their music because he thinks that they are uncoordinated and its all just improvised noise, but damn, these guys truly are tight-knit. This is a band worth traveling to see!
imagine being this dedicated to your art
you can't imagine dedication. all you can imagine is the affect/reward
you have to live dedication to understand it and even then, the results will rarely be your imaginings
you'll always surprise yourself if you keep your head in the game, block out the noise, and just go for it!
Most underrated guitarist on planet Earth.
clix089 nah just not recognized, everyone that knows him loves him
Mike G - Agreed. Thomas Erak is a machine.
Mike G Love Erak, but have you heard any of the first three Tera melos albums? Nick isn't a virtuoso in a traditional sense, but how could you say he relies too much on effects when Spoonful Of Slurry and When Worms Learn To Fly exist?
@@brandonvu5429 Thomas Erak relies on his own fingers more so than operating pedals. I've also met Nick at a show with Minus the Bear and he comes across as very jealous of The Fall of Troy even though Tera Melos we're one of the bands to bring math rock into a more mainstream audience. It's cool his pedal board has 20 some different options but Thomas can do more with like 10. They are both amazing, do t get me wrong.
@@taylorgardner9562 Obviously Nick would be jealous of Erak or rather alot of people are. Erak already made really good shit when he was 16 - 17 like the 30YW EP. On top of all that, he made a hit song with fcpremix not on accident, but Thomas knew it was going to be the main dish of the Doppelganger album.
I first heard these guys when they opened a Fall of Troy show in dallas some years back. Nick came out in an Aphex Twin hoodie while the Looney Tunes song was blasting through the PA. I love this band.
ahhhhg FoT and Tera Melos would be an insane show
What was that 08 with portugal the man too? I wanted to go to that shit sooo bad when it came nearby
That wasn’t the time they tried to baby bird was it?
@@jamesc1469 It was. I saw that tour as well. It was an INSANELY good show.
@@ysf-psfx im sure! Ive seen some of the Tommy jam footage from that tour shits cool
nick is the master at faking it when he forgets a part
How do you tell, sounds like they made this up as they went along.
Kev Mac okay boomer
@@beau691 Don't take me the wrong way, I like Nick and this isn't the first time listening to them but he seems sorta improv minded to me anyways. Also this Boomer has always loved the noisey angular stuff for decades. Was getting asked "what the fuck do you call music?"30 years ago listening to Killdozer or Scraping Foetus off the Wheel.Capt.Beefheart is an idol, doesn't get weirder than Trout mask Replica. It has been said "there's no accounting for taste".Every generation has it's off killter shit. It's all fun!
@@kevmac1230 Nick Reinhart would probably say it sounds like he made it up along the way too, what you said is definitely not an insult.
Kev Mac nice! I understand now. And thanks for the recommendations :)
idk why but every time I listen to Tera Melos it brings me back to my 90's childhood. Watching Pete & Pete and not having a care in the world but eating PB&J's for lunch.
do you not like PP&J?
so right man
Might be partially the wacky, cartoony sounds he says he goes for.
They recently just took a photo with Pete & Pete. look at their facebook to find it.
It’s one thing to have this kind of mastery of guitar, but to augment it with his unprecedented pedal implementation is simple astonishing.
I haven't listned in like a year and I still seem to have the rhythms internalized
For real. My right foot just went along with the kick drum perfectly at 8:42 before I even realized it lol
Me too. Studio version and this live variation. You know what that means: if we started a band we could make something very technical and complex and trust each other to memorize it. I wish I had band mates like that, because mine never remember their parts and I remind them how it goes…
Honestly the audio quality of this is really good. Big ups to the sound engineer(s)
I didn't do it but love to see us sound peoples get praise :)
I met the drummer when I was seeing Boris in Dallas ! Such a nice guy! Also when they toured with Dillinger in 2014, nick walked up to me with my Dillinger vinyl and told me “bro I have the same pressing!!!” and not knowing who he was I was like “sick man!” Then he got on stage and fucking blew my mind
I was at this show. It changed my life for the better. Really glad that these archives exist. Shout-out to Tera Melos!!
John doesn't get enough praise. He's totally on par with Vince as a drummer for tera melos. He's so goddamn good and just fits right in.
straight up
This effing band.
I mean, I knew they were good, but this is stunning. Would love to catch them in Europe if they were to tour there ...
Are you going to see them when they go to Europe this year?
I've heard this song hundreds of times and it never gets old and I will probably never be able to play it but I love it so damned much
The most hard hitting beautiful performance of 40 rods...after first hearing this song 3 years ago I am stunned....wow.
I'm with you.. this is my new favorite version.... This cements these guys as just plain genius for me...
Si, estoy acá gracias pepis music. Ya relanjense
I've seen this like 20 times and it blows my mind every time.
I'll never get over this.
Nick's approach to guitar pedals is groundbreaking and I think guitar players should stop binging on Pro guitar shop for nice reverbs and start worshipping Nick
nope lol
OkSharkey Yep lol
We don’t all that kinda budget man I just wanna make spacey guitar sounds
@@Laizerdisk Go for cheapo obscure pedals. There's no such thing as a bad pedal, just a pedal used in the wrong context.
@@Laizerdisk nick keeps saying he got most of his stuff free from people who didn't want shit or thought it was too broken to use
Gracias pepis por recomendar tan buena música
like, okay I understand people just have musical compatibility. but i come back to this video for like the 1000th time still asking "how?"
Kernel Buttcustard you just gotta find a drummer to suit your guitar playing, or if you're a drummer, a guitarist to fit your fills. look at Hella man their chemistry is like what what
@@slowMOTIONswells hella is litterally impossible for any other duo in existence
@@NeivGabay there will never be another hella and thats why they rip
This is still the best video in the world
I've watched this video every single day since I first watched it! It is infinite! a constant build and destroy! Genius stuff! God I want to see them live.
I know man! but dude I also love their newer stuff, both PR and Xed Out. I appreciate they keep changing! It demonstrates how good artists they are. They dont stick to what once worked. They'll loose fans but they win new ones too :)
Saw two great shows in Switzerland. Would love to see them again.
Aaaah everything about this video is perfect.
Top 3 favorite live videos in existence.
Ok i know I've seen this too many times when the volume is off but i still know what part is playing by the faces Nick make.
yes. just yes to all of it.
HOT DOG MAN FOR PRESIDENT
I miss when they sounded like this
I was at this show. they hadn't played 40 Rods in quite some time and I'm fairly certain them playing it was somewhat of a 'challenge' from a friend of theirs. glad I was there. It was during the X'd Out tour
At 1:50 - 2:00 roughly. I love that riff and how it flows
Never even heard of these guys until today; I'm totally hooked!! What a way to end the world!!! Make mine a double.....
Corndog Sanchez Still kickin?
YES!
goes tf in!
This shit goes so fucking hard I swear
Seeing them on Saturday, praying to hear this
I just bought a squier supersonic because of nick... turns out I still suck... but now I suck with style
Can't wait for them in italy!
their chemistry is like what ...amazing !!
2024 about to be 2025 and this STILL SLAPS
Simply brilliant!
This is super random but last year when my mental health was extremely bad I remember seeing this video and for some reason Nathan's hair being kinda messy made me extremely stressed out and made me extremely paranoid and it took me almost a week to recover from it, and several months to get out of the hole I was in then. I am now doing the best I have in recent memory, and I saw this video in my feed... Nathan, your hair is fine. I was just crazy. This band rules, always has.
Can we just acknowledge the fact that the hot dog man dance happens right at 7:11. Such a beautiful coincidence!
This is so tight!
the badassery is unreal
I miss you guys.
נביא מיכאל what
i just fucking love this video, i can't help but returning to it
its like the most pleasant of trips
god I love this band
Subtitle: "If Polvo had money to buy stompboxes"
I'd say Polvo is mathy grunge, where tera melos is mathy punk/surf.
+Russell Grant please, next time, it is noise rock, not grunge!, please don't do that again, don't call them a grunge band, that's offensive!
i think they'll be ok
AthalWarja these Grunge dudes are great!
they'd be better with a kick ass lead singer with stage presence.
My car gets 40 rods to the hogshead and that's the way I like it
i can't help but like this.
Stoop kid never leaves his stoop!!!
Freddy is right behind you dude. You should be running for your life. Oblivious characters always end up killed.
Damn hotdog man got some broken ankles, you see the way his feet were flopping around?
I guess whoever filmed this has something against drummers because HE NEVER FUCKING FILMED HIM
sorry bud. we'll try to get more of john next time
it was the moustache bro he couldn't keep it together
Dat boi was wearing a TOY MACHINE TEE!
This is a MASTERPIECE!
This is just so much awesome crammed into 12 minutes haha.
Holy SHIT.
How do they remember all this? I am a drummer myself and I play gigs and teach lessons and am still blown away lol
+Seth Bailen they are robots
I realize that this is an old comment, but Tera Melos had always emphasized on improvisation.
This is fucking amazing.
this reminds so much of Hella. Both great bands
well, he played with death grips
how did I not know this version until just now?
Those cymbals are whispering in my ear.
christ put the camera on the drummer every now and then
such a good video! always loved this song
Does anyone know what pedal Nick is using to make his guitar "stutter" like @1:22 thanks
Jiganomics most likely a boss DD-5 or DD-6 using the hold setting to create a "glitch" effect.
This band kicks so much ass!
sounds like all of them collectively are playing the devil for their souls and winning
Epic.
Him and Damon Che need to do a side project.
And that's the way I like it!
parece un sonido re loco pero todo es friamente calculado por los artistas de tera melos
3:26 FUCK YES that was epic!
this performance is crazy good but man, they played it so so so much better in the Vince era
im the dead pixel on stage left cam thats me
I left this playing in a separate tab. I click back a few minutes in and this shit is happening... 6:56
Back in the day, he would sprint really fast and jump kick a member in the audience while he was playing and the second guitarist at the time climbed up his amp and climb the ceiling. I'm sure you can find them on UA-cam.
WHAT MANNER OF SORCERY IS THIS??!!!!
must be a zappa-fan
*king crimson
Odds are they liked both
No pos wow
Roy Castrillo equis de
gottdamn!
Why on earth are the "drummers" in great forward hopping bands like these guys still playing the ancient trap set?!?... holds the whole thing back if ya ask me.
Can someone transcribe the music 🎼?
😄
I need those sweet New Balance shoes now lol
insane :) love u nick hahaha
i just dropped my face on the ground
Anybody know what bass Nathan is playing? Looks like a 70s Gibson Ripper?
it’s actually a gibson grabber, close though
wizardry.
since when does he play his guitar upside down?
it's a fake lefty!
Squier Supersonic
Better than Jimi Hendrix IMHO
nah, jimi's stuff is in another level of creativity in all regards. Musically, sound design wise considering pedals, in terms of artistry and creating vanguard. This has some pretty dope moments but there are parts where the flow breaks and you just hear nick playing like a 6 year old. He should practice to avoid those parts that completly kill the mood.
na shutup dont care
Are you talking about when he just goes all over the fretboard and plays random shit? That's intentional and it's never gonna go away. If you seriously think he's doing it to avoid playing something technical, then you need to listen to Untitled and Drugs to the Dear Youth because he has plenty of talent to avoid those parts.
Jimi Hendrix is innovative but so is Tera Melos, have you ever heard another band that sounds like them? I sure haven't, unless you're going to stretch it and say something like Hella simply because they're both math rock.
0:24 best melos moment ever
what has the cameraman got against the drummer!
it is gonna be my goal to find out how TF he got that tone at 4:39
sounds like some delay and octave pedals with a bit of reverb
Earthquaker Organizer with the lag knob up, if you haven't figured it out yet.
Is he playing with a fender bullet mustang guitar ?
Pado 6 it's a squier super sonic
john McLaughlin of the math world.
The only reason I clicked this video was because I thought Blake from Workaholics was playing drums.
"ya way" but not the hidden gods way
What happened to the full video of this live set??
