this is amazingly well-produced, indeed! and it sounds SICK! Certain brains can likely handle it, but we should all pay attention to the dosage, set and setting!
I've only recently gotten used to seeing them on a stage.

It’s incredible to me that a band with so much destructive chaotic fuck-it energy can also be so adventurous and fun and inspiring. It’s like they’re trying to tell people that there’s more, not in a good or bad way just MORE
So basically, one guy plays a bass with guitar strings using lots of effects and another guy plays high speed drums while screaming mumbo jumbo wearing a mask... and it's fucking awesome!
My exact reaction when I first saw these guys! Two high strings are actually banjo strings I just read.

LOL I've seen them loads of times, last time I saw them must have been in 2006. My ears are still ringing and it's 2022... Go see them. You only live once, and LB might not be in the afterlife.
Every time I saw them at the church in Philly, my head ended up in his bass drum. It can never get loud enough. Seeing them this Friday in LA! So stoked.

Unprofessional? That's what every musician does in a live band setting. They'll have rehearsed some cues but not always - more often than not a "Ready?" is what you get.

Its like a heavier version of Primus, but the Drummer is the singer and the bass player is playing both the bass and the guitar parts. I love it.

Agreed, and the human wave that ensued around them was next-level. Problem was everyone would crowd around a fully set-up drumkit and cabinet stack out in the crowd, basically drawing everyone away from the openers
The speed of Brian Gibson's picking fingers is just crazy.
So here's a little story: I work as a bike messenger in the city where this festival is, and I couldn't really afford a full ticket (just for seeing LB) but a friend of mine was going, so I asked him to call me when they were going to play, to see if he could usher me in somehow. They were scheduled for 2 to 3 AM. I set a couple of alarm clocks and went to bed, since I was exhausted from working all day (and in the evening as well). Unfortunately, I slept through all my alarms.. I did, apparently, answer his call but was sleep drunk and immediately fell asleep afterwards. The next morning I woke up, and realised I had missed Lightning Bolt.. OH well, at least I get to see (a part of) the performance on UA-cam now anyways, so thanks Le Guess Who! I hope to see them next time around.

I saw them in a car-repair shop in Brooklyn a few albums ago. They passed out dozens of waterbottles into the crowd because we were going fucknuts crazy. I saw them again a few months later and it was outdoors in broad daylight in a vacant lot and I was sober but I felt like I had just taken everything. Best live act I've ever seen (along with Giraffes? Giraffes!)

The end of USA is a Psycho insane. It sounds like a computer stuttering.
And Black Pus is the most polite frontman of any band I've seen.

I discovered LB in 2007 on MySpace and I was glad to see them in Paris at La villette in 2009. 15 years later, they still stand as one of my favorite bands. They are really cool and smart.

For some time my main hobby has been watching videos of Lighting Bolt live sets which probably for a matter of contrasts have the effect of putting me at peace with the world around me, an effect comparable to the vaunted meditation I guess.... but all this to just say that after having seen and heard an honestly considerable number of live performances by the two Brians I think I can say, fook yes! this is the best. Guys goin better and better.

I saw these guys in '98 in NYC at this place called Brownies. I think it was the Wicked Farleys, Les Savy Fav, and Lightning Bolt. Man, what a religious experience.
Blow To the Head is INTENSE. that moment right at 9:00 when he starts doing crazy Slipknot snare fills is like going over the top of a roller coaster and immediately finding yourself cresting the peak of a second, even taller roller coaster. a crescendo followed by a crescendo. Lightning Bolt fuckin' rules.
Don’t insult them with a a Slipknot comparison like that. It’s okay though. You’ll grow older and learn what really insane drums are.

@Asian Caillou I heard the guy from Thee Oh Sees call his technique less-than-perfect (can't recall exact words) but he still had to give it up to him, still loves him. Wonder what Ginger Baker woulda thought, since he was such a gruff drumming snob. Now we'll never know (unless he said so before he died recently)

I saw them in Newport, KY at the Southgate House in 2005. 100s of concerts later, and it's still at the top of my fav live music experiences. Dracula Mountain man. I still go back and look and the pics on their website sometimes, I'm the arm in the air with the bad star tattoos lol.
