    I spoke to a rep from one of the big optics manufacturer. He said, that the $3000 optics cost them about $400 to make. Talk about making some gross profits.

      Depends.. Some have different mechanisms on the inside that facilitate how they moving action works, with different arms ect.. and have very precise parts that are not easy to make every time. So there is always a throwaway percentage that doesn't pass QC--- because something is out of spec. So normally the most expensive optics are just the cherry pick of the liter that are actually correctly calibrated. So yeah, maybe it only took $400 on it's face--- but maybe they had to make 5k of them and only get to pick 100 good one's out of all of those. And sell the others as a lesser spec'ed option. This exact same thing happens in the tech world. When you buy a processor or graphics card--- they are making thousands of them--- and then sorting them by their actual tested performance... so you'll be able to buy a xx60, xx70, xx80 or xx90, ..ect..... and yeah sure, maybe they were all made the same way. But there's only 100 that came out as xx90's and 7500 of them were xx60's--- so obviously "supply" becomes a factor. Also, it comes down to manufacturing capacity-- if they are only able to make 1000 of them per year because they are a small company-- then they have to price them enough to keep the lights on---- Where as a giant warehouse that has the capacity to make 100k of them, will have a lot of inventory laying around and they will drop prices just to get it out the door.... Plus you end up finding that cheap labor/ almost slave labor becomes a factor too................... There's a simple answer to this-- if you don't need that top tier precision then don't buy it... get a primary arms and be happy-- that's what I do.

Second, all the other videos had a link with a discount code, so their reviews are suspect to me because the reviewers are getting kick backs. Instead of the tall-target test, do a small-target test. At 100 yards, shoot a three shot group. Adjust 8 clicks up, 8 clicks right, 8 clicks down, and then 8 clicks left. Fire another three shot group. See if the group is in the same place as the first. Most scopes will fail this test.

    • @joshpod007
      @joshpod007 Місяць тому

      That's a turret test on returning to zero. The other test is to make sure if you adjust 40 clicks or 10 inches up the clicks actually move your poi 10 inches. I saw one guy do both tests in one. He had a center dot he shot at then in a square pattern he had four more targets ten inches up, down left and right and only made scope adjustments while always shooting at the center dot to see if it tracked properly and hit each dot in all four corners then returned it to zero for one last center shot grouping.

No problem with clarity or durability as I’ve dropped my rifle a couple times. What else do you want your scope to do, make the adjustments for you and pull the trigger??

      The NF scopes do win out for weight and glass but where they lack a bit (and I do mean by a "hair") is tracking precision. With both the Arken or even the SWFA scopes their tracking accuracy is typically 99% or higher, vs around 98% with the NF scopes on average, doesn't sound like much but for longer ranges out to 1k+ yards that makes a huge difference with that much scope error IF you shoot that far. Most folks won't even notice that, but if you're trying to pop a Coyote at that range...

      Worse, I'm a bit of a natural at shooting. I saw a well intentioned post about how hunters shouldn't assume they can shoot long shots because they bought the tools. It showed a 700 yard target from a national PRS match that I felt was pretty pathetic, at a known distance, practically dead calm wind all day and still not many 'kill shots' on a deer sized target.
      My first time shooting at that distance was in variable 10mph winds, swirling L/R down the long bendy canyon I was shooting up into. I missed the 1st shot then went 11 out of 12 on a 10" gong. Care to talk about Coriolis effect, copper equilibrium, harmonics?

      Also don't be cheap when it comes to your optics. While the higher quality optics May cost a little more than they should this is mainly because of the r&d that they did to perfect their optics and then have other companies copy their work. R&d does not mean receive and duplicate. By the way the issued optic is a fixed 10 power. That is what would be on your M-24 or mini-14.

    You may have misspoke when you say the tall target test indicates the reticle accuracy, it's more relative to the turret adjustment accuracy, and that rifle in the right hands is a very capable 1000 yard rifle, and the scope is more than capable of getting the right rifle on at 1000 and well beyond. I have one and it's easily comparative to lots of $1000+ dollar scopes. Feels like this is as much a review of the gun, as it is the scope. Don't much care how a scope performs on a clear day against a bright white target out in the open. Everything does well in ideal conditions.
    Take it out fifteen minutes before sundown, against a greyed out target that's nestled against mixed foliage and shadow. Then stack it against Leupold, Nightforce, Zeiss, Vortex, or otherwise in the $1500-2400 range.

    Eric, I saw one review that talked about the eye having to be very tight center or getting artifacts/fuzzy edges - and that if you move to a new position like in competition, it will be hard to get your eye positioned correctly. Did you notice any problem acquiring the eye piece center? And on full magnification, you didn't note any issues with artifacts.
