Itadori is more of a plot device than a character. He really lacks any clear personal motivations or goals. He’s truly there to just facilitate Sakuna and have the plot move forward
Itadori is a poor protagonist! This was true until the last chapter. His relationship with Sukuna was the only thing that gave interest to his existence in the manga, but the author is now trying to redeem him with the recent chapters. If the upcoming chapters manage to explain in more detail Sukuna's feelings towards Itadori, his battle against the King of Curses will be even more interesting, and it will give value to this protagonist who, for now, remains average.

I don't agree at all, even though many events in the manga are above him, his still the driving force on the narrative.
