  • As many of you may know, we've been dreaming of a fixed bed in our van for many years now, and the time has finally come to create one!
    Seating area is also incredibly important for us, so we have created a design that allows us to both sit comfortably with lots of room and still have everything we need - including a SLIDE OUT TOILET compartment!
    See how we cladded the van here: • The ONLY Van with this...

    The look on your faces you both look so excited and pleased with your selves as you should be ... I love what you have done so far, however, I would rethink the light blue for the covers it would show any little mark but a middle blue would be great [I love blue] ... can't wait for the next post ... thank you for posting.

    Hi, put a pair of rollers beneath your drawer, the runners won’t take your weight if you plan on using the toilet in place when extended out. If you can’t find rollers then just lower the facia drawer front so it’s a few millimetres from the floor just it will still slide out but when you pull it out to use it will only flex down a few millimetres before it it’s the floor and therefore give you the support you need to use in place 🤙🏾🤙🏾🤙🏾

    Theo's drilling skills are definitely coming along nicely :). Still think it would be a good idea to isolate the bed frame from the garage (and insulate) to act as a dustrap. Hardboard or cheap laminated flooring would work fine.

    In the second guessing category; I wouldn't have used a pocket hole jig for much of that sofa, I'd have used metal angle brackets or 90 degree rigid brackets and then screwed into it. Pocket jig holes look really pretty but strength-wise I'm not sure that's ideal, that's more for stuff where you want it pretty. Angle brackets would probably have resulted in a stronger frame. Hopefully what you have is sufficiently beefy, but still. (Granted, my personal plan is to construct the entire skeleton for everything in the van out of t-slot aluminium, probably 20 x 20 mm, and bolting it all up with mechanical bolts.)

    Put some little caster wheels on the bottom of the toilet draw that way you will not have anything dragging on the floor and it will support the toilet :)

    I'm busy revamping my Transit Minibus Campervan so I'm keen to see how you guys get on. What are the internal dimensions of your van? I have 3.1m length ways & 1.75m width at floor level. I cheated and bought a pine double bed frame for £25 & cut it to size. Raising it to window height means we can sleep across the van saving space & giving us masses of under bed storage. Our double foam mattress came from eBay for £85 delivered & super comfy. We had bought caravan cushions almost identical to yours but when we pulled the covers off the foam looked old and yellow so they went in the skip. Good luck with the build and keep blogging. I've pinched loads of ideas from yours and other 'Vans you feature, plus Rustic Campers on Facebook.

    I think you are going to need to add a support to the toilet platform, something taking the weight off the draw sliders to the floor. I doubt the draw slides will take your weight.

  • @marionsutcliffe1119
    @marionsutcliffe1119 6 років тому

    How about leaving a fixed-flat section (maybe 4" deep) at the back of the liftable seats, so that you aren't fighting the cushion when you lift? i.e. the hinge would not be at the very back, but 4" from the back. Disadvantage would be that it wouldn't open fully for very large rigid items e.g. a plastic tub.

    my plan is like yours but i am adding a toilet cubicle next to the door so i can still have my l shaped seating..then have the kitchen behind the drivers seat..i dont have plans for overhead cupboards but i am having cargo nets on the roof for clothes and blankets but leaving a space down the middle un obstructed..it is army style..

    • @trollhunter9156
      @trollhunter9156 6 років тому

      i havent got time or space for cupboards to smash my head on or things to fall out..hahaha.them cargo nets can be really tight and secure and not too bulky i recon.and you can see where things are through the nets without ratching through cupboards..saves on weight too i recon but still look good..the main thing is to get the basic jobs done well like you guys are doing..like walls floor and bed etc..a few cargo nets add a bit of flavor for me..im loving your attention to detail.

    Doesn't it make the weight too heavy for the gliders? Do they not bend? Is it maybe better to mount them on the floor of the van so the weight comes on top? What is your experience?
