  • The "Doctor" is a great talker to his radio audience when he is in a confident mood. He can jive with the best DJs of his era.
    Never a fan of disco, the new music fad of the era, he is a lover of rock and roll, although he feels he is getting too old to be a DJ in the genre (aside from two episodes on which he adopts a disco persona for a high-paying television job).

    WKRP in cincinnati was my inspiration for me to become a radio disc jockey either a morning show or a quiet Storm host

    Thank you for posting. The last scene of Johhny Comes Back is the very first time I heard the opening of Layla. I was 12 years old. It took me nearly three years to find out who sang that song. My kids think it is hilarious, but there was no internet or shazaam to help me then.

    Howard Hesseman was a solid actor. The voice, the attitude, the shift from Johnny Fever to Rip Tide was great, even though that kind of 'shift' doesn't happen that fast. Taxi did the same thing--Latka as Vic Ferrari--but it was interesting to watch. WKRP was a criminally underrated show. A really good cast, not going for the one-liners but building multilevel characters. Those were good times.

    5:56 So many people viewed Loni Anderson as "eye candy" and on the show just for her looks... But when the writers gave her something to do with some real dialog, "Jennifer" could really shine and deliver - as in this scene with Johnny. A simple "no" became so much more.

    The L.A. Station Andy was talking about where Johnny was fired as Johnny Sunshine for saying the word "booger" implied he had been a Boss Jock on 93 KHJ AM. The flagship station for Boss Radio

      The producer talks about how much it cost to have original music on _WKRP_ . Search for the Foundation Interview.

    Hey Dave K. There's a channel called FoundationINTERVIEWS. Sometime go there and search Hugh Wilson. He was the producer of WKRP, and writer of both songs, theme and outro. A wealth of firsthand knowledge with the click of a mouse. If you want a link, let me know. You'll be surprised at how much 10 or 15 seconds of a song cost to play. Makes me wonder how That 70's Show managed so much music.

    I just realized the WKRP theme song is about Johnny - “town to town up and down the dial”

      I liked Johnny's story from being on top to 'rock bottom' (WKRP).

      Apparently, the theme song wasn't supposed to be connected to Johnny, but it is so clearly about a DJ that has worked all over the country and on every kind of station, and that's Johnny Caravella.

      It could be about Venus too…just sayin!

    • @pacificostudios
      @pacificostudios 2 роки тому +1

      @@charlesgreen8703 - It's not Venus, because he came to Cincy after being a part-time radio host and full-time schoolteacher to New Orleans. That's fandom canon. Unless its one of the many other hosts on that station. A station like WKRP would have to have more than two hosts and Les Nessman.

      It was common for DJs in general to bounce around numerous, small markets. They all hoped for a hire in a huge market in a desirable time slot that didn't involve waking at 3am or doing the overnight shift. As is often the case even now, comparatively few get lucky enough to secure high pay and normal hours--- but are then under constant pressure to maintain listenership to justify their salary.
