I did add one ratchet strap both long ways and through the width so even if box fails, it will stay in place to get to a stop/side of the road. Nice review!
Curious to know how is it loud? Unless it's a really windy day, I don't notice any noise.
@@ReviewingLiterallyEverything To be fair, the noise could be from my ratchet straps as it surely creates some drag. I’ve never used it without the straps.
In addition to the ratchet straps I used zip ties to secure each hook end to the rails in case the straps also failed for whatever reason. I noticed some Amazon reviews saying the latches failed and top blew off.
I’d rather do all this than pay $800 or so for the big name brand.
@@ReviewingLiterallyEverything Update! After mulling over your comment about noise and on the eve of another 2K mile trip, I made an adjustment.
Took off my ratchet straps spanninng from roof rail to roof rail and took a test drive. Voila! Zero noise! lol, so my security straps now only go front to rear and around but not where they attach to the rails so ZERO noise!

I have a 2022 Toyota Highlander do you recommend this storage unit with that vehicle.
How far are the horizontal cross rails apart? This comes with pre-drilled holes that are 24" apart, but you can drill holes to fit your cross rails if need be.
How many medium sized suit cases would you say could fit?
It would entirely depend on the dimensions of each, of course. But we can easily fit three or four carry-on sized suitcases (overhead compartment sized), plus a couple more backpacks and small hand bags. It's really quite large.

How was it tied down?
It uses nuts that screw onto a metal bar, that goes under the cross bars and through the carrier. It shows the process in this video.
This thing has got to be the biggest junk roof rack I have ever seen. I actually bought one and the crossmember bars to that hold it up kept popping loose in the Wind. Once small Breeze sent the lid flying right off the vehicle even with two of the locks engaged on the opposite side. Other than that it seemed to disconnect and twist in weird directions on one side or the other. Then why when I was driving down the road with it the loud noise was a bit much. Making it difficult to talk to the person next to me. Lastly there must have been a breakdown in the quality-control because one of the locks completely smashed the plastic it was around causing a break in the edge. At least the customer service was good and they allowed me to return it without paying return shipping.
Thanks for sharing your experience. I've gotten a lot of use out of mine, and it's been great. But yes, quality control can definitely oftentimes be a problem with products such as these.
