I purchased this unit based upon your review and agree that it gived the most bang for the buck. Easy to install and use. Thank you for taking the anxiety out of making this purchase.
Very well done video. It convinced me to try this unit. I like the fact that you included the installation instructions as well as your evaluation. Thanks a lot!
I was waiting to find such a presentation, the idea of going with a car in which I can have additional space delights me. Thanks for the presentation,
I had difficulties with this thing the first time I tried it. I had it all installed looking good, and then I propped up the lid, leaving the locks on the other side engaged. The crossbars that hold it up where in place, but instead of it holding in the wind. The wind took the top off completely. I can see how it's supposed to work, but it was only a small Breeze that made it fly off. Even when you tried to shake it in the video, it started to pop off. It was also extremely loud going down the road. At least the customer service was good because I was able to get a refund without having to pay for the return cost, which was a bit extreme. I would definitely recommend paying a bit extra to get the better brand.
Extremely helpful. Gonna slap this sob on my Subaru Impreza Sedan 😂 Probably going to have to drill holes because my crossbars are not adjustable but seeing it is designed for that makes me feel better.
Just bought one. Can’t wait to use it. I can’t believe how much those Yakima and Thule’s cost for what they are ($700-800). These Jegs are like 1/3 of the price.
Great video. Thank you very much. One question which I don't think was covered in the review. Have you had any issues with leaks while traveling in rain storms?
Great review! Thank you. Trying to figure out if this will hold two sets of golf clubs side by side and a few suit cases. We've got the same setup with the dog in the back of our Highlander. I've used the big Thule and Yakima before with no issues. But they are longer.
great video, and thanks for taking the time to review it for us people looking for a cargo box thats not to expensive. what size did you purchase? i have a rav4 prime 2023. taking a12 hour road trip. found your video really helpful
Hope it still worked out for you. I have used it a bunch now and really like it more and more. Gives the dog much more room in the car on road trips...lol
@@kenilykustoms it's been a few months now I mainly bought it because of my dog as well it's pretty good value for the price I use 190 lb load capacity cross bars.
Great review on this cargo carrier! I appreciate your opinions and how you describe its simplicity. Did it include tie down straps inside to secure items during travel? I did not see them. The comparison in prices.....compared to the prices you described a year ago....today the Jegs price is up by $30 and the Thule is up by $200!! Although it lacks the bells and whistles of the more expensive units.....simplicity and durability always win hands down for me! BTW....Love the Richie Norton quote...whoever he is! Thanks!
That was actually my concern about Road noise I heard other experience with other ones that rooftop cargoes just make too much noise, especially on highways. But you said nothing on the jegs one right
We have a sunroof on the Lincoln and the cross bars we have allow enough clearance for it to operate. As far as centering it I just stood back and used my trusty eyeball. Thanks for watching!!!
It will depend on your vehicle setup. You might be able to slide it back enough to see out the front. Because it stands off the roof and it is narrower than our sunroof, we can still see out and get lots of light in. It is obviously an obstructed view, but we can see out. With our crossbar height, it also allows us to open the sunroof. Be careful when testing yours to make sure you have clearance first. Thanks for watching!!
We have one of those suitcase sets with the carry-on size, a large suitcase and an extra large suitcase. We can fit all three in the carrier with plenty of room for other stuff. The extra large suitcase we have is big enough for my wife and I to pack for a week. It is very big. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching!!
*thanks for the review I just ordered one, the brackets don’t fit my roof rack my bars are the thick ones. But I’m going to my some adjustments and still use it*
I bought Brightlines cross bars off of Amazon. They are $169 for the silver ones and $199 for black. I have had them for a few years now with no issues.
Thanks for the video! It was very helpful. We’re looking for a hard shell cargo carrier for my RAV4. We plan to drive from Florida to Wyoming/Montana this summer and need to stash our camping gear, at least as much of it as we can! Have you had any issues with the locks? I’ve read some reviews on Amazon that people said the locks didn’t hold up and had to drill additional holes to add extra locks. For the price compared to Thule and Yakima it’s a no brainer.
Glad it was helpful. We have had zero issues with it so far. We only use it a few times per year but when we need it, we are sure glad we have it. Gives us so much more room to bring luggage and gifts and still ride in comfort in the car with the dog... Thanks for watching!!
I dont think it's overly critical about the stickers. I've been looking at the cargo carrier and I'm going to pull the trigger and purchase it. Hopefully Jegs took the sticker issue to heart.
Are cross bars necessary, for this brand, if your vehicle comes with manufactured rails? I am wanting at least long enough to put 6ft wire wracks in a carrier that would fit on top a Mercedes GLK Class small SUV type vehicle???
I have not removed them since the day I installed them. I always double check tightness when putting the carrier on, but that's it. I am not sure why you need to remove them. We use them for our kayaks too when not using the carrier.
Relieved to find this review! I do van camping & need more space but I am on a serious budget. Simple yet no-nonsense design. Thanks again :) Lol and as far as the stickers, I hope they’re easy to remove!
Not a drop of water! Has been used in snow and light rain. I have not had it out in any storms yet, but I can only assume it would stay dry. Thanks for watching extended neighbor!!!
If it did it was minor and not noticeable. I didn't actually check it, but we didn't have to make any extra fuel stops on our trips. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching!
Good call. I am from Wisconsin, although living down in Tennessee I am often accused of being from Canada. I just tell them close enough...lol Thanks for watching!!
I just double checked the link and it should be correct. It takes me to the one I ordered. If you are having trouble with the link just type in Jegs Rooftop Carrier in Amazon and you should be able to find it. I bought the 18cuft model. Hope this helps! Thanks for watching.

Quadratec sells the same carrier under the name Tactik currently on sale for $161.70.
Great video. Thanks very much. I plan to order one today . USA made is a plus . I plan to paint top to match vehicle and correctly mount USA decal.
So glad it helped. I hope it works out for you. We still love ours. Thanks for watching!!

I would also like some hooks or loops to secure items inside from sliding around if you are not traveling with a full load

Hope you enjoy it! Thanks for watching and for the compliment on the property!!

No leaks at all. Thanks for watching!!
Thanks for the review! Did you have any problems with water (while driving) getting inside at any time you used it? Thank you in advance!
Never had a drop of water get inside. We have drove through all types of rain, sleet and snow and it has held up excellent! Thanks for watching.

Under normal conditions I can't hear a difference. When it rains, I get a kind of hum sound. Have used this a bunch and still very happy with it!
Good enough for me....thanks
This was very helpful. Thank you. I ordered the same one.

how do I know how to center the carrier on the roof?. Not sure if it should be closer to front or back. i have a sun roof on a rav4.
We have a sunroof on the Lincoln and the cross bars we have allow enough clearance for it to operate. As far as centering it I just stood back and used my trusty eyeball. Thanks for watching!!!
Should it be close to the front or back of the car for balance
you mean you centered it from front to back
Is it possible to mount where you can still use/see out the sunroof?
It will depend on your vehicle setup. You might be able to slide it back enough to see out the front. What can you fit in there as far as suitcases go? Trying to decide if it's large enough for what I need to carry.

What crossbars did you have? My car also have the flushed rails and it's been kinda hard finding good roof rails. (Cross bars) Thanks!

Yes, you do need cross bars for this unit.
Is it loud - wind noise - when on freeway?
No wind noise but I do get some noise when its raining. To be expected.
excellent review, thank you very much

Great video! I have the same model. Did you have to use a tie down strap to make it more secure? I've seen others do it.
No, I don't see a need for it. I think between the locks and the front clasp it is plenty secure. Thanks for watching!!
Heat the stickers up with a heat gun or hair dryer and take them off. Then put on what you want.
I just pealed them off and cleaned it up. Looks good!!
