You know Remember the Combat form on the last Mission of Halo3. On the Spire you could hear the Gravemind stating He had Fleets of Thousands, however none of these were seen. Meaning....they must have been in other galaxies..oh noo
Except that wasn't how it went. They tested it thoroughly with advanced tecniques and technology, found nothing, and even then they DIDN'T just start feeding it to their pets, they did ban that at first. BUT, it made people's pets desirable, so some people still wanted it despite the ban, so the black market stepped in. Over decades and decades it became normalized (as it would) and eventually they stopped banning it. The rest is history. Sorry to break it to you, but yes, humans are kinda dumb, and something like that totally WOULD happen. It took time, and they didn't outright trust the powder immediately, but people soon forget.
I only recently discovered this channel and I have to say I absolutely love your content! I have an idea for a lore video you could make - a simple timeline of the early human-covenant war leading up to the fall of reach So which colonies fell when, which major battles took place, etc. There’s nothing quite like that on UA-cam and no clear timeline of major events from that period on the halo wiki. I think that would be a really interesting video if you could find the time to make it :)
This is why the Flood is the number 1 of my top 10 most horrifying monsters/species of any media, for 4 reasons: . Unlike Zombies and the absurd bite infection that's been already disproven by sciencists, the Flood says "screw that shit" and mutate everytime they say so: airborne infection, water virus, bloodstreams and simple touch... To put it simply, they're the perfect plague. . Despite being based off the Xenomorphs to some extent, the Flood actually beat them because they don't even need hosts to breed. Even the fucking Tyranids (in my opinion) would have a fair fight against them. . They are intelligent and adaptive to the most hideous extreme imaginable: pretending to be a harmless power boost for livestock only to strike at the worst moment, taking over ENTIRE fleets and using coordinated tactics to attack more targets and cut off any escape route, subverting planetary defenses against their owners, and eliminating the Forerunners by forcing them to use their last resort (the Halos) to destroy everything, including themselves and their own culture. . They Can't Die. They are everywhere and can attack anytime, have infected other GALAXIES and UNIVERSES, turned entire planets into one of their own, it will always exist even as fucking knowledge in the air, their lore is so disturbing even the creators of the Halo franchise don't know how to make them less creepy, and their story is tragic as hell, so much that even Shakespeare would consider to check it out. I hope humanity never find creatures like, or worse than the Flood when space travel becomes a reality.
Only thing I don't really like about the flood is just how overwhelming it is. Make's everything you do in halo feel meaningless because it's always going to be there.
Ah but according to the halo forerunner trilogy the flood only exist to avenge the fallen precursors, and they are only coordinated by the “Prisoner”, when the iso didact managed to trap the original “Prisoner” he basically asked it why it doing this and why they were losing in which it responded with something like “You did not unite for which you are unworthy of the Mantle”. Now to get to another galaxy the flood would have to take thousands of years of non stop slipstream travel as shown by the librarian traveling to a galaxy nearest the Milky Way. Unless the flood use some sort of precursor tech then they will have reached the andromeda galaxy around the events of halo 3 give or take a few thousand years. Now were the domain destroyed the flood would loose there intergalactic communication and begin to collapse. You have to remember that the flood isn’t like the T-virus it has a purpose. Now if the flood wars are completely ended the flood could later, if they aren’t destroyed by the “Prisoner” could try to grow again and evolve back into that ancient race they were spawned from. In the end this story will have a silver lining, they always do.
They should make a flood ether movie or like a documentary on them because they are very interesting. And include some of the most unknown lore and me lore to. Also grt vids m8
2 years later and I still say Dead Space is the best example of what a flood horror game would be. And you still get to play as a Badass that doesn't hide from the enemy.
Yup! Remove the weird yellow things on the hive minds face and you got a literal grave mind. Necromorphs and the flood are near identical. Slashers can easily pass as another sort of combat form along with leapers. Dead space brutes can also pass as flood pure forms
Dude, Are you sure there isn't an infection form living inside of you? I've never seen anyone that loves the flood as much as you do. AND DAT INTRO THO, Great Work Elzie!
The flood cannibal cults story element would be right at home in the Dead Space Universe or basically anything made by David Cronenberg based on the works of HP Lovecraft. That's what I think of when I think of the flood if HP Lovecraft and David Cronenberg had a baby it would be the flood.
we have a race of elder lords that created life in the galaxy get corrupted almost as a ghostly vengeance against the species that eradicated them, a war so massive it rendered humanity back to stone age; making the Sumerian myths true in a way and a horror so massive, even our gods went insane from fighting it... sounds like HPL to me as well
Not gonna lie, that intro startled me a bit. Still a badass intro nonetheless. Great to see that #2 mentioned something that I've wanted an answer to for a long time.
I love the new intro and also the first thing on your list made a question come to mind (if you've answered this before I apologize for asking a redundant question) and that is how did people like the Arbiter not get infected by flood spores despite a massive amount of contact with the flood in halo 2 and 3. Also is there a piece in lore saying the average amount of time it takes for a flood spore to have its host show signs of infection (ie: hours, days, weeks, etc...). I'd really appreciate it if when you get the chance you answer those if you can. Also I really enjoy your youtube series. I've been watching for a long time now, and I like what you're doing. Good luck with your classes.
First off. New intro is epic AF. Secondly. Flood cannibalism cults... why is this not a more mainstream thing in Halo ? 😂😂😂 best horror game ever right there
I couldn’t stop looking at your new intro man so creative job well done man I love your videos I always look forward to your videos every time I get on UA-cam
If you look at one of my halo Wars videos, an ODST says "One of them bit me and ran off is that bad?" And then says "Something's wrong. I feel funny" and then gets infected
about the bitting thing we see it in halo wars we hear "one of those things bite me and ran off" then shortly after that he becomes a infected combat form
How tf is earth still flood clean?? Like Shipmaster glassed the crash in New Mombasa, and Chief blew the reaction core, but there’s like a shit ton of spores and residual material at the glass site. Like, how tf do you contain that? I bet ONI is shitting their pants right now.
Imagine how you shortly die and get reanimated and you aren't able to control yourself and you suffer for eternity if some random thing doesn't kill you.
The flood presumably originates from the Path Kethona galaxy, which in fact is the Large Magellanic Cloud, which is orbiting our milky way galaxy along with 1 or 2 other small galaxies. So its not that far away. And given that Path Kethona has been cleansed by a halo of the greater ark, and the flood has never been seen inventing or creating its own technology, i think its very unlikely that the flood has infected any other meaningful galaxies.
He literally explains it in the video. At the the height of their power at the end of the Forerunner/Flood war (right before the final firing of the full Halo array, when the forerunners were too overwhelmed to even react), the Flood WERE powerful enough to leave the galaxy and travel to others. They don't NEED to create their own technology, they just absorb everyone elses, and the Gravemind never forgets, and has already consumed countless civilizations.
In regards to #2, where you asked if the Flood were something _more_ - there were cults within the Covenant that believed that the Flood were a holy blessing of the Forerunners.
First off. that new intro is mad sexy. Second. I recently purchased 17 of the major Halo books and plan on getting caught up on Halo lore but to the experts; How much do we know about the Halo universe outside of the Milky Way galaxy? This is coming from someone with very light knowledge of the lore but what if the precursors are not entirely gone? What if they or some other entity are using the flood sort of as population control or as thought of before, a test of some sorts, if not for the mantle, then something else. Surely some powerful being outside of the Milky Way would have the capability right? How much do we know about the Andromeda, LMC, Whirlpool galaxies etc, in the Halo Universe? Also, The flood are literally the reason for the Halo installations,; Please bring them back in main games 343.
TymesRhymes that is basically what’s happening the flood are devolved precursors and there going to be used to test humanity for the mantle of responsibility
New intro is awesome! Early congrats to finishing school and I wish you the best future! Those flood cannibals have to be the most disturbing thing I’ve discovered in the entire Halo universe!
@@ruthstewart8725 I mean, Thanos could have decided to have the entirety of the flood and its existance whiped out, which would probably mean whiping out any other remains of the Precursors as well, seeing as the Precursors and Flood are one and the same.
Alright, so I keep on thinking of ways to counter the flood, or at least certain forms of the flood, and I thought about a way to counter the flood super cell. The idea I have is that the flood super cells act much like a rapid virus, taking over the nervous system and using biomass that the host no longer needs in order to grow, however it is never explained just how exactly the organisms function after for extended periods of time as the combat forms probably have organs and such used for the extra biomass, and they never exactly explain how the flood "starve", so what if it is not about starving the flood of biomass and more of starving them of the items that let any organism live? proteins, vitamins, that sort of stuff which the flood can no longer exactly get without a constant source of food (aka living organisms), so the idea is not on as grand of a scale as the halo rings or just killing people off, but rather attacking these very things inside of the bodies via chemical reactions on a massive scale, as asides from most of the body being made of proteins and such, it is likely that a harmful chemical reaction will cause the flood to rapidly break down as even if the bodies of the floor are left, they will probably be left in such a condition that the only things that will be left is the biomass as the chemical reaction will probably destroy the super cells which require these to even function in the first place, and unlike a war machine or a strategy, the flood wont be able to properly combat this sort of bio weapon as they themselves are completely organic, and if the bio weapon causes a chain reaction between the flood, then it means a planet can be quickly purified without glassing and similar, even spores wont be able to infect without a flood super cell present, so the only problem would be clean up of the biomass, and I am already sure that a bio weapon like this should work as even though we are told that the flood do not actively infect plants and such, we do not see any living plants in flood infected area or any remains of decaying plants, hinting that they are possibly using plants to help feed them.
It would work, to some extend. however there are massive problems. Distribution, you somehow need to get this chemical agent get in contact with the flood, preferably from a safe distance and in large enough quantities to cleanse outbreaks or even an entire planet. *flood anwser* Target supply lines if they reached high enough intelligence, attempt to quickly kill distributors and then convert them later. Wait out a cleanse until the chemicals have stopped working, then reinfect the biomass laying around. Effectiveness, a chemical that utterly degrades living things essentially. Is highly likely to also degrade any living organism. it won't be discriminate between flood or people. Meaning even if you manage to cleanse a planet, you have effectively killed off the entire planet. Sure the planet would be killed off by the flood anyway but this would restrict the usage of this chemical to mostly areas that are in threat of being overun, aren't important enough or are flood invested already. *flood anwser if coordinated* Attack and infect important areas first. Longetivity, if the chemical is short working, the flood may not be fully cleansed or capable of reinfecting an area. If long working, it will make many places incapable of supporting life for a long time, at which points you effectively nuked entire planets. it either gives only breathing room or has a neutral result as it is essentially scorching the earth. A chemical wouldn't work, however. There is something that is capable of infecting and taking over cells. A virus, as specifically engineered anti flood supercell virus would be able in due time cleanse entire areas of flood infestation. And only flood infestation. But this runs into issues as well, without hosts, virusses are shortlived. resulting in the possibility of reinfecting the biomass, virusses mutate quikcly and could go from being flood specific towards other living creatures, and if the flood somehow absorb the virus and repurpose it to infect living things, congrats you made the flood even more dangerous.

Halo Wars has one line that accidentally shows biting works. "One of them bit me and ran off! Am I going to be okay? I feel weird." - Marine before transforming.
I haven't finished the video. Got to the part with other Galaxies. I thought there could only be 1 gravemind, so for their to be flood that can travel from 1 galaxy to another that would mean they need to be co-ordinated so they need a gravemind. but the Gravemind was killed at the end of Halo 3 and the protoGravemind was defeated in Halo wars 2. I'm just confused with that idea.

"Huh there's nothing unusual about this powder. What should we do with it?"
"DUURRRR LETS FEED IT TO OUR PETS HUR HUR HUR!!!!"
"Great idea Jerry!"

I have an idea for a lore video you could make - a simple timeline of the early human-covenant war leading up to the fall of reach
So which colonies fell when, which major battles took place, etc.
There’s nothing quite like that on UA-cam and no clear timeline of major events from that period on the halo wiki.
I think that would be a really interesting video if you could find the time to make it :)

This is why the Flood is the number 1 of my top 10 most horrifying monsters/species of any media, for 4 reasons:
I hope humanity never find creatures like, or worse than the Flood when space travel becomes a reality.
julio victor manuel schaeffer manrique true, they remind me of the crysis ceph, both are adaptive, and they exterminate life
the game Kit Actually the Flood CONVERT life to it's shape, not destroy it.
julio victor manuel schaeffer manrique although true, I was talking about both being adaptive to anything
julio victor manuel schaeffer manrique it’s fine don’t worry, you can get worse than the motherfucking flood :)
Brace yourself, there maybe a warhammer 40k fan might attack this comment
3) The Gravemind origins.
2) Jenkins, post infection.
1) The Flood.
The Flood really is the scariest enemy ever imagined. I can’t think of anything else that comes close. Good job writers.
The Necromorphs from Dead Space are pretty close.
Only thing I don't really like about the flood is just how overwhelming it is. Make's everything you do in halo feel meaningless because it's always going to be there.
Halosince151101 As the video said, they are techanically pre-cursors so they will be around of course.
And the concept of neuro-physics
I know that feels.
Yea like cancer or aids
That’s the whole point
Love the new intro!

"Through rock and metal and time" makes so much more sense now...

The flood cannibal cults story element would be right at home in the Dead Space Universe or basically anything made by David Cronenberg based on the works of HP Lovecraft. That's what I think of when I think of the flood if HP Lovecraft and David Cronenberg had a baby it would be the flood.
we have a race of elder lords that created life in the galaxy get corrupted almost as a ghostly vengeance against the species that eradicated them, a war so massive it rendered humanity back to stone age; making the Sumerian myths true in a way and a horror so massive, even our gods went insane from fighting it... sounds like HPL to me as well
Jovel Herrera Campos cosmic/body horror at its finest. I hope Halo never gets a movie because no studio could hope to do right by the Flood.
Mike Vasquez movies based on games suck, but imagine next remaster
To be honest, with the Flood being unending and unstoppable, no matter how many times you "win" sounds like an eldritch/lovecraft concept.

I'd imagine that being infected by the flood spores is gonna be alot kore gruesome and painful than infection forms tbh.
NotSoJosh He's THE Darth Vader. On a Halo video, he can do whatever he wants. I find your lack of faith disturbing.
Imagine how you shortly die and get reanimated and you aren't able to control yourself and you suffer for eternity if some random thing doesn't kill you.
The most disturbing thing about the flood is how intelligent they are
WOAHHHH TOTALLY TUBULAR BRO😎
@@Geassguy360 he also created his own tech on the ark aswell
Good luck with the uni work.
I'm in my second year so things are getting pretty intense too. Know what you're going through, appreciate the content
In regards to #2, where you asked if the Flood were something _more_ - there were cults within the Covenant that believed that the Flood were a holy blessing of the Forerunners.
Freaking Love that new intro!!!!!
First off. that new intro is mad sexy.
I guess thanos snapping half of the universe is right
Thanos was right after all
Ha! that moron just weakened Everyone to infection due to weakened defense's.
I mean comic thanos wanted to kill everyone in the universe so... I think he was always right
@@ruthstewart8725 I mean, Thanos could have decided to have the entirety of the flood and its existance whiped out, which would probably mean whiping out any other remains of the Precursors as well, seeing as the Precursors and Flood are one and the same.

We already have a flood horror game. Its called Dead Space

Rhys Brattle The Flood's source of intelligence is basically transcendent thanks to Nurophysics. They can have as many Grave Minds and Key Minds as they want and they'd all draw from the same pool of intellect.
Nope, there's no limit on the number of Graveminds that can exist at one time, just gotta have enough biomass to create more than one
