Actually never realized that what happened to her was explained somewhere. Is it from a book? In any case, this makes me look at Cortana after Halo 2 in a new light for sure. I thought she was fine after Chief rescued her but man, she must be traumatized. Or, whatever the AI equivalent of trauma is

"Now... at last, I see.... Her secret is revealed!!" I have been DYING to finally know the torture methods the Gravemind used on Cortana. Thank you. As a Psych Major knowing the form of trauma and what exactly happen can better shed light on a person's.. or in this situation human-like A.I.'s mental state.
Halo probably has the best lore and details in any game I’ve seen so far So many stories that ties into halo wether it’s a side story or a random marine
Master chief needs to go back to his awesomeness but also still feels emotionally about losing cortana from halo 4 and has to fight her, since chief was disappointing from halo 5.
I absolutely love your videos and appreciate the unfathomable quality that goes into each and every one!!! I love them!!! I would like to introduce a thought, the flood is capable of showing Cortana memories of those it has consumed. Could it potentially show dreams or figments of imagination? I mean this as a form of psychological torture that could have been used to effectively break and gain access to her information much more quickly. Picture this, it’s similar to what happened in Halo 3. Cortana is rescued by the chief, flown away in a pelican with the Arbiter, etc. Except, it’s all a hallucination or a dreamlike sequence implemented by the flood. To give her the false feeling of security and escape only to whisk it back and bring her back to the reality that she remains on high charity. Picture multiple scenarios playing out like that of being rescued and escaping only to ultimately see that it was an illusion fabricated by the gravemind. It would make her I guess numb or disillusioned to actually escaping and being rescued which could result in two scenarios. Such psychological torture is sufficient to make her break and allow the gravemind to win OR it would make her disillusioned when the chief makes it. Imagine how it would have played in the game cutscene? To see her basically crazy saying that this is another hallucination or that that wasn’t really chief or that she’s tired of experiencing this over and over, only to find out that this time it REALLY WAS chief and that she was actually rescued and not discarded like equipment as the gravemind had implied. I believe that would’ve made an already emotional reunion sooooo much more emotional and so much more impactful. Just a thought
There's another story I'd like to know about, even if it's a really short one, is the story behind the ODST, with the Flamethrower, you can find on the mission Cortana.
*book idea* Halo: quarantine/overrun/sectioned off A small group of marines and or elites and or brutes are in the last remaining non infected areas or sections of high charity, forced to team up and last as long as they can, over hearing the distant echos of the flood gravemind talking to cortana, with them trying to communicate to her or maybe the survivors on the ring, but obviously we’d know how it ends. If anyone sees this please add to the plot or critisise it, feel free to help
Looking at each species, especially Humanity, in this series had me taking a step back. Looking at AI’s as well also had me take a step back. Ultimately realizing that there is this overall sense of right and wrong, yet those are constructs to justify actions taken. Meaning that there is no real right or wrong as an absolute, but as a concept of perspective by the beholder. Halo, when looked at with all available material, is filled with great philosophy and thought provoking questions. It’s about how we as humans are both perfect and flawed. That we can encompass all that is right and wrong at the same time. Deep stuff for what most look at as a shooter about a space marine fighting aliens...
Also can AI like Cortana experience love? Did she view John and her relationship with him like that of a family? Or friend? Or romantic? Did she ever even think about the extent of their relationship?
Enjoy some more creepy Flood lore fellas! Leave your suggestions for what I should cover next in the replies to this comment!😊

Then before halo 4 she spent literally, if I remember correctly, 4 years alone with her thoughts after all that had happened..
Great content, keep up the good work man!!
@The Honerguard fucking true mate, and halofollower is boring too
6:17 Think that Marine could have been our boy Jenkins?
Probably, that must've been terrible. *shudders* *starts remembering Jenkins mind while infected when reading Halo: The Flood*
Jenkins was infected on Installation 04. Nowhere near Installation 05 where the gravemind was.
Then again the precoursor neural physics would allow that, but only if Jenkins's mind was linked to a gravemind on installation 04, which it wasn't.
So it couldn't have been him. But another human from the In Amber Clad.
It was some random female marine if I remember
( O_〉O)? Does it have to be a Gravemind specifically or are the combat forms neurally connected?
@@o_o-037
There aren’t separate gravemind there’s only been the one, this one fought was the one who took down the forerunners and the one we face throughout 1-3, the proto graveminds are more or less subordinates to the greater mind they help to control and guide the feral combat forms of the flood and the reason we see on in halo 1 is because the flood were trying to use it to pilot the ccs battlecrusier so the gravemind could spread the infection but chief halted that plan leaving the flood stranded on the *installations. It wasn’t until halo 2 that the gravemind had another chance this time though he was in direct control, he took over [en Amber clad] (the ship we see Miranda commanding in beginning of delta halo(mission) and crashed it into high charity. The gravemind controls all of the flood no question so Jenkins memory would be embedded somewhere within it.
Listening to this I want to give Cortana a hug now
me, personally, i would give her a hug regardless

I love the small detail of chief resting his head on his arm when kneeling down to talk to cortana after finding her.
Orange...
Bloringe. Mountain in Wales.
You can force Door Hinge to rhyme with Orange.
But not any singular word truly rhymes except for “sporange” which is what a mushroom’s spores are held in.
@@unreal727 I thought it was a part of a fern
@@Finn_7117 Nope, only fungi have them since they’re the only things that use spores, for which the sporange is named after :)
Lozenge is an obvious one people never mention.
@@gothic_baby_doll I’m not sure how that’s supposed to rhyme. There’s not even an “r” in it. By the logic of “lozenge” then words like “syringe” rhyme with “orange” but that’s not how rhyming works
Imagine knowing this while playing the mission Cortana for the first time.
How dedicated to finding her you'd be.
I still get chills when Chief finally rescues Cortana in that scene
This would make a wonderful short
I even felt shivers when you said "John"
Another amazing video. I’ve always loved the halo games but I’ve never really delve deeper into the lore further from the games. Thanks to your videos, I have a new appreciation for the series. They have even inspired me to buy the books for myself and see what more the universe has to offer. So far the flood graveminds as well as mendicant bias are my favorite characters about this series! Keep up with what you’re doing, its truly some great stuff.
Ayyy thanks man, that’s great to hear! Always feelsgoodman getting people into Halo’s expanded universe :D
@@HiddenXperia the one thing ive wondered is what happened in between 1 and 2
Wow, Cortana really went through a lot during her time with the Flood and it also shows how the Flood are so Corrupted. It’s terrifying that the Flood will do anything physically and mentally to other species to spread out to the rest of the Galaxy. Even Al’s aren’t safe!
The gravemind actually speaks in iambic HEPTameter, meaning seven beats per verse, as opposed to pentameter, or five beats per verse
Just imagine beeing tortured by Gravemind himself. Pretty scary to picture.
Or maybe I should say Gravemind THEMSELFS.
3 years late.. but I couldn’t imagine the Captain Keyes terminal gets me all the time. I couldn’t imagine being tortured by that thing.

i know its not lore accurate but i always liked the idea of cortana completely ignoring the gravemind when he tried to talk to her or simply powering herself down
Good vid, thanks for all the details. I love Cortana & MC. MC rescuing her is definitely one of the highlights of the series for me and just how their affection for each other developed so well.
Holy friggin wow bro!!! This was an AMAZING cideo! Such a sad and kimda scary story, poor cortana. It shows just how smart and powerful the gravemind can be, truly a horrifying thing that flood.
This was actually one of my favourite short stories from Halo: Evolution. Loved that book.

Actually never realized that what happened to her was explained somewhere. Is it from a book? In any case, this makes me look at Cortana after Halo 2 in a new light for sure. I thought she was fine after Chief rescued her but man, she must be traumatized. Or, whatever the AI equivalent of trauma is
Given AI are based on human minds, the AI equivalent to trauma is probably just trauma.

He told her about the microtransactions in halo infinite
"Tell me a word that rhymes with orange"
*Eminem confidently walks out*
God, words cannot describe how utterly sorry I am for Cortana and the hell she had to go through.

I genuinely hope they reveal that Cortana has the Logic Plague.
There's another story I'd like to know about, even if it's a really short one, is the story behind the ODST, with the Flamethrower, you can find on the mission Cortana.
Goddamn the scene when chief saves cortana still gives me the feels

Halo: quarantine/overrun/sectioned off
A small group of marines and or elites and or brutes are in the last remaining non infected areas or sections of high charity, forced to team up and last as long as they can, over hearing the distant echos of the flood gravemind talking to cortana, with them trying to communicate to her or maybe the survivors on the ring, but obviously we’d know how it ends.
If anyone sees this please add to the plot or critisise it, feel free to help
Professor Yusuf oh ik
Johnson:"chief... Where's Cortana??"
Chief:"She stayed behind.. "

Also can AI like Cortana experience love? Did she view John and her relationship with him like that of a family? Or friend? Or romantic? Did she ever even think about the extent of their relationship?
