The Flood tried so hard to adsorb a person who could fly it to Earth, yet I don't believe the ship could have broken orbit due to the weight of Cpt. Keyes' massive iridium balls
I'm surprised the ship was still in the air with how heavy they must have been

Captain Keyes stayed faithful to the Code of Conduct through the end:

Aldo Torres damm forgot about that one....guy is a freaking beast, good thing the flood killed him or halo might of ended a lot sooner with him at the spearhead
In my softer moods, I find the idea of so many good men, following this code, during torture and to their deaths, absolutely heartbreaking.
ExpertSystems agreed but I suppose that’s one more reason to honour and respect there deaths, terrible as it may be

Doesn't matter. He may have believed he never told the flood anything, but the flood knows, all the same.
@@lycan623 Which is even worse, because they knew the moment he began to remember. Which meant that it was holding out his own consciousness to tell him that he couldn't save anyone.

5:06 This is actually something that military personnel are taught to do if captured by the enemy and interrogated. They are told to reveal nothing to their interrogators - and presumably torturers, but their name, rank and service number. In a way, Keyes was compromised by the Flood and was subjected to what was effectively a Flood interrogation technique. Keyes was remembering his training. It was the only way to fight the Flood he had left.
Glad someone said it so i didn't have to
Are you speaking of UNSC? or actual military members, because normal military members aren't taught any techniques on how to deal with being interrogated, the only members of any branch that are taught any techniques and would actually be able to resist something of that sort are members of SOCOM.

@JasonX 117 Thank you, mate :D
5:05 the reason Keyes was repeating his name, rank, and serial number was because it’s based off of a U.S. military rule. If captured by an enemy, you are only to tell them your name, rank, and serial number. No more no less. The gravemind was not mad at him for saying his name, it was mad because he wasn't providing any more info, prompting the Gravemind to have dig deeper.
No gravemind. Infection form. Keyes would have become a gravemind had he sat there for hundreds of years growing and learning.
It's more of a united nations thing than US doctrine for those countries that abide by national law
@@ZemoGames well if you watch the terminal in mcc directly underneath him the gravemind is the one speaking and the one sifting through his memories.
@@alexmackey64 UNSC is directly influenced by the US military. Hence it's fair to say that any law, rule, or tradition in the UNSC will take it from the US military.
@@ZemoGames even if a gravemind, through neural physics, can gain past knowledge of past graveminds, the stage Keyes was in (proto gravmind) was most likely enough to act as command for the flood plus it’s intelligence from past forms, but due to its stage of infection, it’s not enough to take control of technology like ships

Keyes + Flood = Fastest click ever!
I think the scariest thing about this whole thing is that Keyes is obviously not the only one to have this happen to him. Think of the amount of humans/forerunners that this must have happened to
Oh yeah, any forerunner, elite, grunt, human, or brute that had too much intelligence to fly a ship or know the location of places, they suffered an unbearable pain that only ended when they died.
Meh, to be fair, the Forerunners kinda brought this upon themselves by genociding the Precursors and compelling them to become The Flood.
@Devil Zion
Before I give my reply, I suggest you go into a private window and check to see if you can still see your comment. It appears to be hidden in the page for the actual comment section (thanks, UA-cam!)
Anyway, the Precursors didn't do it out of spite. They transmuted themselves into a living dust in order to survive, but too many years and genetic abnormalities (kind of like cancer, I imagine) led to that dust becoming the first Flood particles. The only one who I think had any kind of malice was the Primordial, who for all we know might be simultaneously the last Precursor and the oldest surviving Gravemind/Keymind.
I love how we’ve literally heard the story 74 times yet we still watch it and enjoy it

Captain Keyes: **You like Jazz**
I remember reading the book on Halo CE, The Flood. It actually describes how Keyes had his mind and memories ripped apart as he resisted giving up the location of Earth. It was pretty messed up. Especially in the end when the Gravemind decides its had enough and decides to just fully absorb him into itself and his reaction to feeling his consciousness be assimilated into the Flood. It's such a undeserving end to a good man.
Could you describe this to me in more detail?
@@1980syuppie the captain got his internet history removed by the gravemind (joke aside the flood basically gave alzheimers to Keyes and dug through his memories like a wildfire and made sure they get the info they need to get to earth but chief made it just in time and ended his misery by punching his skull) quite a hudson way to die,but badass and that death would not be in vain as chief destroys the flood in halo 3 then we get to 343’s halo (now I’m saying too much)

DarkBooger I still remember reading this for the first time. It was a gut-wrenching moment.
@@ShawFujikawa Yeah it was, it still is.
This game had identified itself in the worlds greatest, not only because of gameplay, visuals that at the time were ground breaking, and not even for the memories that so many have gathered, but, for the story? Absolutely, hours upon hours of storytelling each story successfully passing the last with sheer emotion, I miss this game, and hope to whatever gods that live, that Halo: Infinite will be the saving grace that Halo so dearly needs, also hope the forge is godlike.
I read this book back in middle school before ever even playing the games, and it's what made me interested in playing them in the first place. That was around fifteen years ago now, but that whole subplot has stuck with me ever since.
@@GentIemanThief I read the book before playing Combat Evolved, I had played every other game since I didn't have a copy of the game on the original console nor did I have anniversary edition on the xbox 360. Then I got my own pc to use and found the PC port for the game. Now I have the MCC on xbox one.
Keyes is mostly only able to see the Truth and Reconciliation, and therefore for about a quarter of the terminal believed he was being interrogated by the Covenant until he started looking more and saw the flood infection forms running around and was reminded of those things and yelled out *"YOU DON'T WANT EARTH! YOU WANT EVERYTHING!"* and he realized he needed to attempt to hide the location of Earth, unfortunately giving away the location of the Pillar Of Autumn's crash site giving Master Chief a harder time fighting in The Maw.

I've always been suspicious about Keyes "death" in the franchise. If neural physics is truly a concept in the game, the essence of Keyes was already absorbed by proto-gravemind by the time the Master Chief arrived on board ship, so maybe he wasn't really dead. It makes me revisit some of the interactions that we see from the new Gravemind as the franchise progressed. Think about it: how fixated the Gravemind was on Master Chief, the odd "rescue/recruitment" it had with him in Halo 2, the way it seemed to have an oddly personal connection with Cortana enough to torture her while trying to get the index, how in Halo 3 when they were all working to stop Truth and Miranda Keyes was killed, the Gravemind only attacked once her body was safely taken into the pelican by Johnson, how Johnson was literally allowed to leave the safely on the pelican with her...very suspicious. I wonder if, having absorbed Captain Keyes, the proto-gravemind was still able to transfer his consciousness into the Flood Gravemind memories and that overall influence was present in the actual Gravemind for the remainder of the series. Kind of interesting to think about eh?
Is this like when Fat buu was in Super and Kid Buu?
Unfortunately, we’re talking about a single great mind being swallowed up by what can be considered billions of lifetimes. One mind isn’t enough to influence a creature that essentially has multitudes of other minds within it. The moments you mention are all just coincidences.
I am actually glad that I played the Anniversary Edition of Halo CE before the original so that I could see the Terminal with the recording of Keyes in his final moments of infection.
