Your videos always make me feel like you are talking directly to me. Can tell you are an educator. Great info Patrick. Just what I needed to know. Thank You!!
Thank you so much Patrick and Patty for this video. This great to know what to do with your slide out. How to lubricate it and make sure that the rubber doesn’t wear out and get water in the slide. I can see why that would be needed. I’m glad you did a video on this. It’s very helpful. See you soon!
Nice Video! I am a Lance owner as well and I think you are spot on with the need for slide lubrication and maintenance. Another thing to be aware of is the situation where the exterior slide rails begin to tear loose from the side of the trailer. Due to the floating design of the slide in these Lances, the entire weight of the slide is carried by the wall. As you go down the road, all that weight is pushing down on the inside portion of the slide (especially if you carry your cast iron cookware collection in the dinette drawers). Over time you will likely have problems with the slide rail hardware starting to strip out and the rails separating from the trailer side. I also installed the Camco step braces under the inside of my slide to help support the slide in transit. I don't screw the braces down too tight.............Just tight enough to keep the inside of the slide from bouncing too much when traveling. I also made some carpeted pads to go under the braces so the braces don't put marks in the laminated floor. This is just my opinion, but I think the Schwintek system should only be used on small light slides like perhaps a small wardrobe slide. I think this Super Dinette slide is too much slide for this system. Here's looking forward to my next trailer without the Schwintek slide system............or perhaps no slide at all! Happy Camping!
Great video. My last RV had the Schwintek slide system and I never had any problems with it for the 7 years I owned that trailer. My new Flagstaff trailer also has the Schwintek slide and it has already started squeaking a little bit when retracing the slide. Time to get the CRC Power Lube out and give it the first lube treatment. Also love your Lance trailer - they build a really nice unit but it was a bit out of our price range.
Thanks for the great information. I really like the idea of using the stair supports for the slide out. We've had issues with ours and all of you ideas will help out.
I received the link with no problem. I do not have a slide out on my Tab 400 but I did get some good information on lubrication of my window, door, and hatches. Thank you
Very informative! We still need to get those stair supports!! Such a good idea. I would have never thought about wanting to prevent slide problems once it’s inside, but some of those roads (most of those roads lol) are terrible!
Thank you very much! For most slides that are on the floor, it's not an issue. These Lance slides are very big and heavy and sit about 12" above the floor when in.
I attended a Lippert slideout system seminar. Your information in holding the button down 3 to 5 seconds is spot on. But they also told us to not spray anything in the rubber seals. They said the seals should be cleaned with mild soap (Dawn) and water only and using any of the seal conditioners on the market will actually cause the seals to deteriorate quicker.
Thanks for sharing. When I was at Lippert service, I asked for recommendations on the seals and was told they don’t make the seals so they didn’t really make recommendations concerning them. Sounds like they are now giving advice on them.
@@TravelswithDelaney They mentioned at the seminar (August 2022) it is a new recommendation based on their conversations with the actual seal manufacturer.
Thank you. We are making the switch from Tab 400 to a Lance 1575. We want to make sure we are doing everything right and dealerships dont know everything 😊
When we bought our 2019 Lance 1995 the salesman ran the slide out and it was VERY noisy, I asked about the noise and he said that’s normal. I had been a member of the Lance website for approximately two years already and was very familiar with the Schwintec problems and need for lubrication so I didn’t say anything but after taking delivery I stopped at my local NAPA store and bought a can of CRC and lubed the slide when I arrived home. Dang that slide got quiet and has been quiet ever since😃!
Nice video... not sure if this is universal but you also have large floor rollers that support the bulk of the weight. These can be located by using a flashlight and get under the slide out and pulling down the seal. I marked my roller locations and lubricate these as well.
Good job with this video! We're only 2 years into our RV habit and while the slide out on our Lance has worked fine, I'm always wondering what to do if it stops doing so as well as proper maintenance. Thanks!
🤣I'm sorry Tim! Some of my friends had shirts made that has our logo on it with the words "Good Influencer; Bad Influence" because they say the same thing you said. You can find both of those products in our Amazon Shop under RV Gear. The link to the shop is in the video description if you need that.
@@TravelswithDelaney thanks....in reading my post to you I must have been typing with my toes. We have a 2021 1985 and we are in our second year with it. Really love it and appreciate all of the good advice you are giving.
I have a 2017 2285. Just a couple extra points with slide. Don't forget to lube the rollers underneath the slide. Just a squirt on each end. We don't use supports when retracted. The biggest issue is too much weight in dinette drawers. Don't think we have more than 15 lbs in either one. Never put heavy items like canned food or cast iron in them. 6 years with our Lance & have never had an issue with slide. Not once!
My 2021 Lance 1985 slide just failed on our last trip - 360 days after purchase and 5 days within warranty. The dealer said Lance and Lippert came up with a repair about a month ago and they have been super busy repairing slides on Lance trailers. He said he has done so many, he has the part number memorized. Anyway, the trailer is at the dealer and I am now waiting to hear when it will be fixed. The projected timeline is 2-3 weeks. I am anxious to hear what the repair is...
Hi Patrick. I was hoping you could tell me if you have to change your converter if you switch to a lithium battery. I’m looking at getting a 100 amp hour battery. Can you suggest where I might find this kind of information? I’ve tried googling and I end up down a rabbit hole of info I don’t understand. Is it possible to get a simple answer?
Its possible you won’t need a new converter if your trailer has a converter that can be switched to lithium. Lance in 2020 started using converters that could be switched. If your trailer doesn’t have one like that with the built in switch, then you’d need to change the converter which is what we had to do in the T@B 400
@@TravelswithDelaney thank you! I have a 2020 Forest River Mini lite that has port for a solar panel so maybe? But at least I can check my owners manual or contact the manufacturer to see if my model has a switch. At least I now know what to ask! Thank you!!!!
In the video, you said not to slide the slide out halfway and stop. In order for me to condition the seals on the top, I can only reach them when the slide is halfway out, even when on a ladder. Is this okay for the couple of minutes while I condition the seals, or do you have other suggestions for reaching the seals?
Ever notice most people complaining about slides are complaining about schwintek slides? Why manufacturers keep using them is beyond me. Luckily all 3 of our slides are rack and pinion. They do require some maintenance but I think they're a lot less problematic.
We had the rack and pinion ones on our 5th wheel and in 8 years of ownership, never had an issue with them. I think manufacturers use the Schwintek on slides that are too big and heavy. It works fine on smaller slides like closet slides.
@@TravelswithDelaney yeah, I can't argue with that. But as a mechanic, the design and positioning of the schwintek motor system just plain sucks. Extremely difficult to work on. With that said, belly covers don't make thru frame rack and pinion particularly easy but given their higher reliability I think it's less of an issue. Also in many cases they can be cranked in if they fail.
Thor actually put this awful slide system on their big wall slide on their diesel pushers -unbelievably cheap-we got rid of that Motorhome because of the awful slide system 🤯🚌🇺🇸

We’d love to upgrade to the Vroom

Hi Patrick. Great video. A question... Do the rollers on the very bottom, underneath the slide require lube or any other maintenance?
Thabk you. I have been lubricating them recently and they seem to roll smoother and quieter. I just squirt a little on the bolts.
The rolls have sealed bearings. You cannot lube them by spraying them.

I’m glad to hear you’re still under warranty and they are taking care of it for you.
So never stop part way but to fix it stop part way several times?
Is it worth installing a Vroom slide out system?
We have talked about that as an option.
