Sam - I think you are right. There is a growing desire to help the countryside recover. More change sooner would be better, but these things do take time to build momentum.

Absolutely and I think we all need to hold on to something positive right now, I guess you could call it hope. Thanks Ed!

Good video Sam! And it reflects very well a climate like the Scottish and Basque where it rains a lot and finding dry wood and making fire are a real test !👏👏👏👌

I love to hear the info from a boots on the ground, you understand the needs of the forests and hopefully can explain it to us. Love seeing Darach in the videos.
Shame about the rain, shame there’s so little original trees left.
    Great content, thanks
    All the best

Another very informative video Sam, I do hope that more time and effort is put into bringing back Scotland's native woodland. Although to be honest I feel like a little bit of a fraud, I have a keen interest in the subject but as an offshore worker I dont genrally get too vocal about environmental matters!!

Thanks so much for watching 🙌 yes if you watch a few of my videos you'll see I don't often have a fire directly on the ground and often used a little wood stove to keep it contained. The mobile firepits are very handy too! Have a good weekend 😁👍

Sad to hear about the situation.. it’s so hard when nature always comes last when that should be the most important to take care off…

Good video bud. Those spruce plantations are hell for me. Too many poking branches trying to pluck out my eyes 😂 still haven’t camped with just a tarp need to give it a try this year I think 👍

Hey Sam just saw your video and was as you are concerned about the loss of our native forests.
Is there a programme in place to collect seeds from the trees in the remnant areas.
This could help by growing off site away from deer and protecting the lineage of the trees from that area with a view to expanding in remnant areas with protection.
Mainly I was thinking is there a seed banking system in place to protect and preserve the lineage of these woodlands.
I live in the Southwest and like you I am angered by the mindless destruction of our native woodlands by commercial forestry of non native species.
Let me know if a seed bank system exists for reafforestation that will preserve the originality of native species from a particular area.
Love to hear your thoughts....and keep up the Vids love the fact you are fighting to preserve our natural heritage.
    Thank you.

Hi thanks so much for watching and commenting!
There has been efforts over the years to collect seed from these remnants for the Millenium Seed Bank through projects such as the UK National Tree Seed Project etc.
On a more local level if there is demand for trees from a certain remnant, efforts will be made to collect seed and grow it on to produce seedlings. Sometimes this is carried out at small local nurseries or sometimes sent away to bigger nurseries. Collecting seed isn't always easy if there hasn't been a good seed year and just general access to the seed trees. They are not always in the most accessible locations. Currently there are additional restrictions / protocols for planting native Scots Pine near existing Ancient Caledonian remnants to avoid spreading diseases like Dothistroma too!
So to answer your question...yes :D but it's not always easy for straightforward!
