I’m gonna need another half dozen explanations to really understand these nuances. Thank you.
Great job Robert! It’s all so confusing, and I love how you break it down.
Thank you!
Thank you so much. Had watched previous videos from others but was still very confused. Loved the way you included different scenarios. We are from the UK and are considering buying into DVC. Although we have visited WDW many, many times and stayed at various Disney Resorts the price was worth it as Disney included the Dining Plan and also made life simpler with the Magical Express or free parking. As those benefits have now disappeared we could not justify the price of "room only".
Glad it was helpful! It's a tricky concept to grasp but once you "get it," your membership is so much easier to understand!
Great explanation! Thanks!
You’re welcome!
So informative! Thank you!
You’re welcome!
Great info! Thanks
You’re welcome!
Best to have January use year. All deeds expire on January 31st. Only members with January UY will receive points in the final year of their deed.
Thank you, this was very helpful
Glad to hear it!
You've made something that is very confusing understandable. Thank you for your explanation. This was great! Looking forward to the other videos. Will you also be discussing about extending stays by renting points? Or renting points for a DVC stay?
Yes we will 😊
Our new use year is December so this helped me understand what that means for us :)
So glad! 😃
The photo is brilliant Good job sir
Thanks! 😄
I'm not sure if you're still interested in this playlist as this is over a year and a half ago, but I'd love more information if you have any.
Thanks for this video! Question…
I’m looking at a contract for a June use year. We usually travel in June. Would it be unwise to purchase a contract with a June use year? Would an April or March be more beneficial? Thanks for the clarification!!!
Do you have a video explaining using points for cruises?
Could you do a video on how to rent points and tips for renting? ??
We plan to eventually. 😊
Use Year made simple. QQQ, Is there any limitation(s) on when you can borrow from the upcoming Use Year? Also, you touched on some of the differences between direct buy vs. resale- could you do a detailed video on the differences (basically what do you lose if you buy resale)?
Thank you Robert, we found this very helpful!. We are from the UK (Scotland) and hoping to get back "home" next year. As we normally have our vacation in October, we are thinking that our Use Year would ideally start in November/December? Would this be correct? We are booked for April & October 2022 and hope to become DVC members on either of the trips. We are hoping for the Riveria - do you know if this is still available. Thanks you! Have an awesome day. Ava :)
Thanks for the kind words Ava! If you're planning to travel in October each year, then you should look at an October UY. That would give you points each year on the first of October that can be banked if you need to change or cancel your October trip. If you often travel in April as well, then October is STILL a great UY because the banking deadline is the end of May, so you'd be able to bank the points from a cancelled April trip as well. I'd definitely recommend buying on your April trip (or possibly even before if possible) so that you can use the points for the October trip AND you can get those "bonus" points for the current use year.
As for Riviera, Disney has plenty of inventory still available and that's extremely unlikely to change before your trip. :)
@@HereWithTheEars Thank you for even more advice 😀.
April is an extra vacay for us as our last trip was cancelled due to 🦠. We normally take our trips during school holidays which are mid October which made us think that November would be a better UY for us?
My husband is hoping for the Riveria as we spoke with DVC CM on our last trip (Oct 2019) and we planned to buy in 2020 but COVID got in the way!
Thanks for keeping us updated from across the pond and 🤞🏻 we can get back soon. Thanks care 😀💖
Thank you for such a great video clarifying things that are very confusing! I may have missed this in the video, but can you use banked points from a previous year, add them to you current UY, and borrow points for the next year all for the same booking? For example, let's say I have a 250 points plan and it is currently the year 2022. And let's say I've already banked my points from 2021 so now I have access to 500 points for 2022. Can I also borrow points from 2023, and therefore book a vacation in 2022 using 750 points? That would give me the flexibility to sometimes do a Disney Vacation once every 3 years instead of once every 1 or 2 years for times when we wish to travel to other non-Disney destinations.
Hi! You are correct that you can use 3 years worth of points at once by banking, borrowing, and using your current UY. At least, that's the case in "normal" times. At the moment, members are limited to borrowing 50% of their next UY. So in your example you could borrow only 125 of your 2023 points, resulting in 625 total points available. We don't yet know if/when the 50% restriction will be lifted, but DVC has indicated that they plan to do so as soon as they can.
This is really helpful! Thank you for taking the time to explain this.
We’re considering purchasing DVC but want to avoid having to finance the purchase and are considering first buying a small resale then maybe purchasing add on contracts to work towards the coveted “blue card”.
I have a few questions that I’m still not clear about.
If we own a small resale contract, are we eligible to purchase small Add On direct contracts even if we don’t have 125 points yet? How small can add on contract be?
What are the restrictions for moving points of different contracts? I think it would be really helpful to see that kind of info in a single reference.
Great questions! We’ll add them to our list to be sure we answer them in future videos 😃
@@HereWithTheEars , that sounds great. Looking forward to seeing it😁
Hi I'm looking to buy Direct and I usually travel in February and then again either in September or December. Struggling with what month I should choose. When I suggested a June use year I realized that I am almost up to the deadline for banking those points so I would have to know right away what I'm doing for spring and summer, otherwise bank those june 2021 pts by jan 31, correct?
Since you have so many times you normally travel, choosing a UY is a little more tricky. If you're buying direct though you don't have to worry about the banking deadline when you first purchase. DVC will make a one-time exception and bank whatever points you purchase if needed. For example, we have a December UY and added on a direct contract on 11/30 one year. Those points should've expired the next day, but they banked them for us. Hope that helps!
Very informative, Robert! I do have a question about Use Year and the deed expiration date of the resort contract. I understand that all contracts will expire on January 31st of the expiration year. So, Riviera 's contract expires on January 31st, 2070. If I have a December UY, what happens to my points that get loaded on December 01st. 2069? Do I have to use them all by January 31st, 2070? Thanks!!!
Great question! Since we haven't come up to any resort expiration yet, we don't know 100% for sure. But based on current policies, it seems like you would have to use those December 2069 UY points between December 1, 2069, and January 31, 2070, unless you borrowed them back into 2068. We have a December UY so that's the boat that we're in too. But we stay pretty "borrowed" so there's not much concern 😂
@@HereWithTheEars Thanks for answering my question! I guess we'll have to see what happens in 2042 when some of those contracts get set to expire. :-)
Really good info! Do how many points total do you guys have?😃
We have 475 total 😊
@@HereWithTheEars l am jealous 😅 we only have 270
So if I plan to take a trip to Disney World 2 or 3 times a year (in February, June, and September/December (If only 2, then take out sept./dec.) what would be the best option so that I can bank the points for the sept. / dec. trip for the following year?
With going that many times throughout the year, use year won’t be as important for you. But I’d recommend either a February or June use year, and I’d like towards June personally. This is because your Sept/Dec trip is more likely to be canceled between the others, so a June UY would allow you to bank those points up to January 31 if that happens.
@@HereWithTheEars ok! Thank you so much! You guys are very helpful!
How is a JUNE use year best if you travel in July? Unless you are booking at your home resort because you would need to wait for 7 month window otherwise and miss your July travel - yes????
No. Your points for each Use Year are loaded BEFORE the 11 month window in your account. So if you had a June UY and booked today for July 4, 2024, you would book that using your June 2024 points for that booking. You do NOT have to wait for the use year to book using its points.
