Fantastic video, got answers to questions I didn't even know I had! Thanks so much for making this. For me personally the noise test will actually be a huge deal as it just attracts way too much attention when you're screaming around on an overpowered e-bike in my opinion. Also massive props to Cyc for taking the time to answer questions in such detail, and making so many options backwards compatible! I'm very interested in the gen3...the only thing that put me of buying previous models was the noise. If I ever see an ebike pulled by the police it's always got a huge hub motor and a huge battery zip tied in the frame...it's not a good look.
Right. There will be a noise comparison apparently to show how much quieter it is than the previous generations. I would wait and see. The situation in the UK and AUS with ebikes is insane and I will be addressing it at some point as I get more time.
If you use the motor for mountain biking don’t try and save a few bucks with Gen 2. The motor cutouts (a major driver for the new controller) especially on steep climbs will drive you absolutely nuts. I’m super pumped for the upgrades and going to order the complete upgrade kit and use the x12 to replace the BAC855.
@ 4:00 you mentioned the Stealth version is available to work with the 120mm BB. I had placed an order for a Stealth X1 Gen 3 motor and I just found out they are now saying the 120mm BB width is not available to work with the Stealth motor. I'm really disappointed with this but they offered the X1 PRO Gen 3 at the same price. That was nice of them to do that, but I wonder what the issue was...

I gotta say the answer concerning VESC source availability is discouraging. They have GPL logos all over the X-series page but it seems like they don't understand the legal requirements. Releasing the source code is not optional.
It wasn't a yes absolutely but it also wasn't a no. I will encourage them in my interactions as I think that they would be worse off by closing the branch. There are several gear ratio options available when you buy. Do you know of any guidance sources or information to make the best decisions on these? thanks
Actually that will make a pretty good subject for a video. It depends on the type of bike you have and the riding you will do. Also the kind of rear cassette you have. You can change that stuff though if you wanted to. Look at the biggest sprocket you have on the back and relate that to the options. If your biggest is a 42t then you might want to go with one of the larger options. If you you have only a 28t then maybe the smaller options. If you have a heavy bike and ride offroad then the smaller option will be again better as you will put less stress on your motor. If you have a lighter road or gravel type bike then you can go with a larger option as the motor will be able to drive the bike forward without too much stress. This is a video I did just yesterday on gearing. The latter part talks about my CYC bike. I use the middle of the options on it as it gives a good balance. Its a gravel bike and the largest gear at the back I think is a 36t. ua-cam.com/video/tW_swtyk7v0/v-deo.html
Hi, I’m considering this motor are there any reviews or updates yet ? The plan is to put it on a (high end) full suspension enduro Mtb. Any advice or suggestions for maybe other options?
I think they are shipping but I am yet to hear anything concrete as far as a review. Some people on our discord have ordered them though so it should be pretty soon!
It "seems" that the rotor on the CYC X1 Pro Gen3 ,for some, is losing magnets and over heating. I wish I knew what % of the sold motors had this problem. Maybe the Gen2 is something to consider. Any one else hear anything more about the rotor burnout?
Good info there, cheers buddy. The extensions are available, if you go through the process of making an order, the options are there as before on the gen2. I don't suppose you know if they're going to have a new UK distributor, Electron cycles aren't going to stock the gen 3 ?
@@HighVoltageKits yes it certainly looks that way, his options for bbshd kits and 60-72v batteries are non existent. He's always been my go to for batteries.
Potentially but I'd check. I don't think it's an official option. However essentially they are the same as a brake cutoff so it could be implemented if desired. They are not the best IMO.
@@billymore2790 Personally I just use the break cutoff for gearing as well. If you adjust the breaks a tiny bit so that you can do taps without them taking then you basically have the dual functionality in the break levers and you can drop the extra button on your handlebar. Feels really intuitive as well in my opinion!
Has anyone besides me had multiple issues with the freewheel 2.0 at the crankset? I'm not sure if it's water ingress or what, but they have gotten really stiff making hard to pedal, despite replacement and no pressure washing... ??
On a different issue, I use an egg rider v2, any ideas if they are producing any firmware updates, there doesn't seem to be any firmware to download now, has it reached its limits or are they working on a v3 model
Thats a good question. The egg is based on the swo2. It must be close to maxed out in terms of what the firmware can do. I have not heard of a v3. I'd imagine they would need a more beefy platform. I'll ask George at Egg tho.
@@HighVoltageKits ok thanks, I noticed that there used to be two firmware files in the download section, but now there's nothing there, and just wondered why.
I love my bbshd. Very reliable and you can hotrod it. The gen 3 looks promising but not seen it run. I'd wait and see what people who are buying them say. They are working hard on it. I hope it does well.
I saw now that the x1 gen 3 is coming with both a 3kW and 5kW option and to me that sounds like an almost dangerous amount of power. I mean 5kW is more than quite a few electric mopeds, can a normal bike really handle that kind of power safely?
I have a frame - graphan carbon from a brand called Poison (German). I was wondering if this kit would fit. ( It has a BSA 68mm BB). And if it does fit, what's the maximum size battery I can put on it? Any pointers appreciated.
The BB is not a problem. In terms of the rest its hard to say without seeing it. You are welcome to post photos on our discord channel to get advice. The link is in the description.
@@HighVoltageKits Thanks for the reply. I'll join the discord and post pictures. If anything, I am looking forward to learning more about other projects as well.
Good question and I am not 100% sure. Break sensors I think are a guarantee. If need be you can also use one of them for a gear sensor. You just need to make sure the wiring is correct.
Range very much depends on how big your battery is and how much power you consume. This video is using another CYC motor but you can set this motor to a similar level and you would get similar results. ua-cam.com/video/hOlGnPOuVgg/v-deo.html
You can order them now. Its in full production so the wait should be no more than a few weeks of shipping depending on how many orders they have etc. The times on the website are accurate apparently.
Too expensive. And shipping alone is 120 US dollars. Buying a motor and a battery combo will be enough t buy a new whole bike like the REI COOP 2.1 mid drive Bosc motor.
DIY kits are not for everyone. Most people get them because they want the joy of converting a bike they already own. The performance of these also vastly outstrips the Bosch ones and it's not a locked down system. So yes you could get a bike for $2000 but it won't go particularly fast and the components on it will be bottom of the line. Most people using these kits converts Downhill bikes and are already invested in high quality drivetrains etc. Its all about what you want from your bike and budget. Great comment. Cheers

Good info there, cheers buddy. The extensions are available, if you go through the process of making an order, the options are there as before on the gen2. I don't suppose you know if they're going to have a new UK distributor, Electron cycles aren't going to stock the gen 3 ?
I'm not sure about the UK. I think Francis is focusing maybe on the Sur Ron higher power mods maybe. Good news on the extensions. That's great.
@@HighVoltageKits yes it certainly looks that way, his options for bbshd kits and 60-72v batteries are non existent. He's always been my go to for batteries.
Can a Bafang gear-switching sensor be used with a Gen 3 X1 or Stealth CYC ? Thanks.
Potentially but I'd check. I don't think it's an official option. However essentially they are the same as a brake cutoff so it could be implemented if desired. They are not the best IMO.
What would be your suggestion to aid shifting…or is nothing needed ? Thanks
Do you know when the new x12 controller will finally be available for the x1 pro gen 3?
March is what is being stated. That was a while ago tho.
@@HighVoltageKits thanks
Has anyone besides me had multiple issues with the freewheel 2.0 at the crankset? I'm not sure if it's water ingress or what, but they have gotten really stiff making hard to pedal, despite replacement and no pressure washing... ??
I have heard less issues with 2.0 It's possible you have a faulty unit. I would send video to CYC and they will help.
Thinking about one of these for my cotic rocket, i really dont wanna saw off my chainguide tab but is the bafang worth it?
I love my bbshd. Very reliable and you can hotrod it. The gen 3 looks promising but not seen it run. I'd wait and see what people who are buying them say. They are working hard on it. I hope it does well.
I saw now that the x1 gen 3 is coming with both a 3kW and 5kW option and to me that sounds like an almost dangerous amount of power.
I mean 5kW is more than quite a few electric mopeds, can a normal bike really handle that kind of power safely?
Its a very good point and it is far too much for many frames. DH frames tend to be massively overbuilt so handle the stress better.
This motor appears not to fit a Bosch gen 4 frame.
You need a bottom bracket, and the Bosch motors tend to be integrated units that bolt in.
Welcome. That's what the place is for. Cheers
@@HighVoltageKits joined the discord and have posted my question. Cheers.
Can I run a 56v 11ah battery on the stealth version ?
Never heard of 56. 52 yes. Higher depends on the version.
Do these things have a break and gear sensor?
I don’t hear any mention of sensors
Good question and I am not 100% sure. Break sensors I think are a guarantee. If need be you can also use one of them for a gear sensor. You just need to make sure the wiring is correct.
What bike is the one shown with the motor in the video?
I think its all renders. They sent me a bunch of stuff to use. Its definitely a DH frame. I'll see what I can find out.
What is the range ?
Range very much depends on how big your battery is and how much power you consume. This video is using another CYC motor but you can set this motor to a similar level and you would get similar results. ua-cam.com/video/hOlGnPOuVgg/v-deo.html

any word on the CYC X12 controller?
I was told end of March. Not heard anymore tho.
When will these be available?
You can order them now. Its in full production so the wait should be no more than a few weeks of shipping depending on how many orders they have etc. The times on the website are accurate apparently.
As long as they don't go down the awful route that Bafang has over recent years
Yes. I don't think they will because they engage very much with the DIY community.
Cheers
