Best of Hawaii: South Maui - Backroad to Hana

Maui has two roads to Hana. The less traveled backroad to Hana has fewer one way bridges and sharp curves, but has miles more of rough, rutted and dirt roads. The south side of Maui isn’t as forested as the traditional road to Hana, but it can be just as beautiful.
The first drone footage of this video is in the area near St Joseph church. First blessed by Catholic missionaries in 1862, the church was constructed with cement made from coral. Faithful followers dove for coral in the nearby ocean and crushed it to help form the cement to keep the stones in place.
Today, St Joseph church is a mission of St Mary’s church in Hana and services are held here when there is a fifth Sunday. These services are often followed by a pot luck luncheon.
The final scenes of the video are of drone footage around Manawainui Gulch on the south side of Maui.
