BBQ for the homeless event moved after Phoenix Police learn group was trespassing

- Опубліковано 3 лип 2022
- An attempt to help the homeless on July 3 was cut short after police officers told organizers to leave the area.
An organization called Hearts for the Homeless AZ was hosting its second annual 'Barbecue for the Homeless' near 7th Avenue and Jefferson Street, and about an hour into the event, Phoenix Police arrived, and officers told the organization that they were trespassing, and would have to leave.
The group's organizers said they've held events at the same property before, without any issues.

You can't drive a mile without seeing an empty strip mall, yet there's no place for all these people...
Exactly
Greed!! The city would rather hold a vacant lot in hopes to one day turn it into revenue(that may not ever happen) instead of helping those in need for the time being. It’s just sad and sickening 👎🏾

Ok for one we did not get a permit. My mistake. We take months to plan such a event. But the coos were very nice about the situation and found us a new location with the help of the volunteers and the homeless we moved across the street and continued to help over 400 that would not of had a 4th of July. There are many reasons why someone is homeless but regardless of the reason we help them. I have seen some get help and get off the streets and alot that have died due to the heat if you don't feel like helping those on need that is your choice and that's ok. I have alot to be greatful for. My son was also out doing bad for 8 years. He is now clean and helps me by serving those in need.lesson I will get a permit next year but I will still continue to help those in need every sunday just in a new spot downtown and on the streets. With the housing costs going up more and more are homeless.
Just thought I would let you all know the cops were awsone with us. The owner never called them they were letting us know before they called so we chose to move.
Those police should be ashamed of themselves.
Someone called about this event being on their property. What were they supposed to do? Do in front of your house then. Then there's no problem.
The city does not want to fix the issue. Very sad.
It gives them a reason to exist. More problems more funding. That’s why people are allowed to smoke fentanyl in city buses, restaurants, parks, on business property because the city will federal funds to “fix” things. Some cleaning crews and locking up junkies would solve a ton of issues with crime and filth in the streets.
Phoenix can be a rotton place.
JUST WTH!!! Permit or not! Let these give some relief to all who are suffering on this day of Freedom. How people on the streets are surving in this heat is beyond me!
Nope.
Have these mostly drug addicts in your backyard...Put you money where your mouth is..
@Magic Go out and meets some of the homeless because they are not all drug and alcohol abusers. Are you so heartless as to think no one may need a helping hand from time to time. Most people want a hand up! Not a hand out!
@Ghost Tape No. 9 Great! Would welcome it!
So embarrassing my state would do this. I have been homeless in PHX in my early 20s willingly due to mental health issues and now live in Chandler at 41, barely getting by this past year. Facing a potential eviction. My son is currently in a residential treatment center and I do not dare tell him how I am trying to get by right now. Step dad started a job may 31st , as he was unemployed since November 2021. No benefits, just me working all the hours I could to get us by. But we are in a predicament. We are close to living once as we used to with no struggles, but all I can do is put on a smile when I see him and act as if everything is normal. I just want him to focus on his mental health and not worry. While I'm over here putting in the hours for work and step dad as well with his new job
It's terrible that PHX PD would do this. So many people are facing hardships right now. And not what many people want to put us all in a category for.
I pray for those struggling and especially in this heat.
Right now, I am thankful for my roof and ac which may be gone soon.
I have animals and a job. But if I lose my housing, I'm done for.
We are so close to being out of this rut. So close.
Well the cops came and said they were trespassing well the only way they could be trespassers at the owners of the property told the cops to trespass them then we had to be warmed to leave it didn’t leave then they would be arrested so you need to find out who the owner of the property is and find out if they called the police and said these people were trespassing on their property if not the cops took it upon themselves to violate peoples rights and Arizona is known to do that just like Los Angeles
😢
Maybe city will sponsor another event for shutting this one down.
It's the least they could do to mend a few bridges.
Making connections matter for any city.
Food, water, maybe some free supplies. Music hope.
It is a dream. I will pray for it.
Thanks to all those who are like power house's no matter what happens you are there for the homeless.
I bow to you and all your drive, money, just plain good will.
You all are what we need in our communities and I apologize you are always having to fight for the right to give a hand up to those going through hell.
I appreciate each one of you.
This is very lazy reporting. Instead of discovering why the event was shut, (and this doesn't require extensive research) the report focuses on why the event is "justified", ie people are needy. Here you see an example of "the ends justify the means". That the event is being held on property that apparently doesn't belong to the organizers, and to whom no permission was given, is subsumed by the "needs" of the organizers and their clients. What you see here is the organizers helping themselves to someone else's property, (however temporary) because they believe their cause is just. This is very similar to the tactics the homeless themselves use. They need some place to sleep, so they occupy and soil sidewalks, streets and parks and even private property which do not belong to them, for their own convenience. Most of the report is spent telling us how needy the recipients are. I believe it. The news channel could at least discover why the event was shut down. Ok I'll stop yelling now.
You are assuming the police got a call about this. Unfortunately what your not mentioning is that Phoenix police keep everyone from dispersing help in the " zone ". Quit lying the police had the property owners permission to remove them because that's false. They do this every weekend. People like you disgust me
Yep, pure emotional appeal BS. Advocacy journalism, as usual.
Facts 👏👏
I feel for both sides. They should of asked permission first but at the same time ppl need help.

Turns out officers got a tip a Snorlax was in the vicinity so they shut down the organizers efforts, yet sadly the Snorlax fled the scene and got away.

They were trespassing on private property and asked to move across the street but they chose to pack up and leave.
yup sadly to say..... trespassing perhaps without knowing....& yes it's the people who care ...NOT so much the city!
It suck that the guys getting told what to do catch all the flack
If it was a trespassing complaint the officers were simply enforcing the law and the organizers failed to obtain the permission of property owners who's property was being used. I think you might be a bit tiffed if someone simply decided to offer free food for the homeless, in your front yard, without asking your permission. Things like this require proper planning and the organizers appear to have failed in that regard.
If they did it in my front yard I'd rush out to help.😞
@@TJB-zt9tx Giving your permission, which is your choice. The property owner here was not contacted and had previously asked that their property not be used at all by unauthorized parties.

So questions... Questions that this article or video does not address... Was the charitable station set up on private property? Did the givers have the permission of the private property owner to set up the stations? Did the owner of the private property request enforcement action? Is there prior documentation of the owner of the private property requesting enforcement action? Where did the givers relocate to? Did the giving continue after relocation? All of these are questions that do not seem to be addressed by this video/article. This article seems to imply that the police arbitrarily told the charitable people to leave a piece of private property. It is my understanding that under the law the police do not order people off of private property unless it is at the request of the private property owner. These people have no right or authority to set up a feeding station on anyone's private property or in a right of way, thoroughfare or roadway. This article seems to imply that the police acted imprudently... But doesn't seem to address the fact that the police did what the police are paid to do which is enforced the law.
Get to the core... poor reporting damn police are just following orders the organizers are on private property 🙄

Phx never had homeless? Lmao that's a lie
Some & most homeless wont go to other areas or downtown shelters , because: easy money. Panhandling $5 bills is better than 25cents outside of downtown PHX. I lived downtown for 32yrs & its sad they called 👮🚓 but property owners are tired of this 40yrs of the same . hope they all want different shelters , and have less homeless in one area . drugs 💉 , money💵 is the problem & not the feeding part of it.
ITS TIME FOR A REVOLUTION
This city will boil over, when a quarter of it's people cannot afford housing. Then you'll see what kind of game this is. Good luck.
If law and order disappeared in Phoenix the 'homeless' problem would be solved almost overnight....very brutally and effectively...and quite a few personal disputes would be settled the same way at the same time. The question is would the vigilante groups bother the bury the bodies of the previously homeless, or just leave it to chance and time? Those police everyone on the Left loves to hate, and the system they enforce, is the only thing standing between the 'homeless' and a quick and brutal end to their 'homelessness'. Be careful what you wish for.
