Found a fire giant in Ruins of Unte and it really feels like you can wake him up so you can enter the ruins. And you can, but you have to use the correct item to do so. Help on killing the thing is a whole different matter.

Yeah I wasted 3 hefty furnace pots on the one outside of shadow keep. Given there's a note by it talking about furnace pots, I was very surprised that one can't be woken.

you can actually get in without doing any of this, theres a big opening on the backside of the ruins, just bug your horse on the gaps of the structure skyrim style and jump inside

Then you miss out on a great tear. But yeah, if you don’t care about that then the opening in the back is pretty obvious, but I don’t know how to “bug” Torrent into getting over the wall (although I didn’t try too hard because I think I’m one of the few that enjoys fighting the Furnace Golems).

If you are using mods restore all files to normal do the stuff and re apply your mods. Certain things weren’t working for me because of my mods.

Circle around his legs with the horse and use someting fast weapon (since im faith/str i’ve used marikas hammer). I’ve also used a tear that help me in poise break, and a talisman that also help me in poise break, so i can tear him down quite fast for a critical attack.

Best weapon is the anvil hammer imo. The key is breaking his stance so you can get a crit, so heavy weapons will dobthis quickest. The skill wrecks the fire golem and stuns him quickly allowing the critical (plus it has fire damage and they're weak to fire).
Make sure to wear fire negating talismans, armor and eat buff items that negate fire damage, and use any spells you have that boost fire damage negation. It's quite easy once you do this.
