The earbuds seem like they'd be really good for people prone to ear infections. By not trapping in moisture and allowing the ear to breath, it should reduce the risks of infection. I'd love to see data on it!
While the linkbuds may be lacking bass (there is still more than I expected), the mids and highs are unlike anything I've experienced from any earbuds, aside from iems, before. There's a crispness to the sound that seems to be extremely difficult for manufacturers to achieve in any ear/headphones without them being legitimately open backed. Not having to touch the earbuds themselves is such a gamechanger since there's no chance of knocking them loose while frustratingly trying to get the touch pad to work, and it seems to be way more consistent than any the controls of any other touch- controlled earbuds I've used.
I'd recommend these to anyone who still wants to be connected to the outside world while walking around/going on a hike.
They're also perfect for people like me who have older cars with stereo systems that are mediocre and/or don't work at all since I can still hear what's going on around me while listening to decent sounding music. The fact that the plastics are recycled from car parts makes them that much more fitting for that purpose
Good comment, I want them now lol
@@chromaticvisuelle I'd suggest waiting a a couple months.. While $180 is less than I'd have expected them to launch at, a $20 or $30 price drop, or sale, is more than likely to happen once they're past the introductory period
Man really spit out a well-written headphone review in a UA-cam comment😂
@@pawa303 it's weird cause I HATED reading and writing in high school, but now I do things like this and I give journalists shit for not putting in enough effort into their research 🤣
Do they produce any sound at all below 100Hz ish for you? Mine don't, I listen to a lot of metal etc so no problem there, but when I tried listening to Kendrick Lamar I thought the earbuds were broken. There is literally no bass coming through in a lot of his songs. That plus the fact that they're extremely uncomfortable for my ears means that i have to return them... I really hope they implement the skin touch control on future earbuds though.
The most surprising thing about this is Sony using actual words to name their product
Don't worry, they also have the name "WF-L900"... Naming them "LinkBuds" is definitely an improvement.
RIGHT?!

This video definitely had some interesting tech. Thanks for always bringing the great content and wow, on the tech you’re giving away. Also, thank you for using your platform and stage positively
The Sony Linkbuds are pretty cool and make a lot of sense (say, from a Japanese commuter and handheld gaming perspective), since a lot of people commute, walk several kilometers a day and even still game-on-the-go. They made it so you could still hear and speak in public without having to pop out and possibly lose those tiny earpieces. As a Sony (Playstation) fangirl myself, the "tapping the area in front of your ear" reminds me of Aloy's Focus (a triangular device she uses to scan, see data of and interact with "the old world" - our world/time) in (Sony) Playstation's Horizon Forbidden West. PRETTY COOL!
its a cool concept and would like to seem them improve, but the Audio quality is SOOOOO BAD
Overrated Airpods
They also suck lol. Extremely uncomfortable and non-existent bass below 100Hz ish
If Apple had made he tapping feature you wouldn’t hear the end of it
I like that it let's your inner ears breath
Hey Marques, I was just using my Sony link buds when your video popped up. Honestly, its one of the weirdest and coolest tech I ever had. Thanks for the review!
Looks like I need to get me ones ☺️
Waiting for it to launch in my country Sadge
Can other people hear your audio? Like phone conversation or music?
@@alanzlinsky not really.. my kid had to really go up close to my shoulder to hear it.
He mentioned the hole for your hearing your surroundings but forgot to mention their actual main purpose. One of the problems with ear buds is that they build up pressure in your ear and prolonged use can cause ear issues. These ones from Sony you won't have that issue.
I think Sony actually worked a really long time on these kind of earphones.
I remember like 6 years ago my mother participated on a market research, where she got to test these kind of earphones for about two weeks and then give feedback on what her thoughts were about them.
She gave them to me for a day to test them myself and of course they were still completely wired and really didn't sound good at all, in fact very canny and trebbly sound with a total of zero bass. But that might really just been something like an prototype.
I don't actually know if Sony ever released them or were just working on them until they have a finalized product they think is good enough for the open market.
Where does your mom work?
they actually don‘t have bass and still don‘t sound good...
@@NutzerLive they sound good. Stop lie
@@tauqeerahmad3988 They sound worse than Airpods 3. If you think that's still good enough then yes.
@@safwanhamza Oh she didn't work there, she just participated on a market research.
Pretty much all the big companies do market researches every now and then to get an opinion from normal people on new products, movies, marketing campaigns and video games. A company for this example Sony approaches a market research company who does that for them and then shares the opinions and thoughts of the people with Sony. My mom just participated on this market research as a volunteer. But they always pay you a bit for the time you took.
If there's a market research company in your city, try to sign up, its very interesting and makes a lot of fun! Whenever they search for people they send emails and you can sign up for them. Of course they always take different people with different pre-knowledge on the topic and different level of education, living situation and age to get widespread opinions from different target groups
Really enjoy your videos! Explaining in a way that even a non-tech person will get hocked up and understand what you are explaining 😊
12:58 I believe that's why technology exists. Making positive impacts. Great job you both.
The control on the Sony's with tapping the skin is incredible
It's the same as the Galaxy Buds feature where you double tap your ear for volume up/down.
I've been using this feature for 2 years...
It's the same function as a wave-to-flush toilet lol. It doesn't actually have anything to do with you touching your skin.
@@misssummersalt you're supposed to tap the earbud edge for that, not your ear.
Also works with airpods 2. Amazing
@@ViggoMor10sen It works better tapping your ear though, even though the app lists it as the earbud’s edge.
The Xbox screen was dope! The giveaway is also nice especially with the charity component. Two of the best in tech teaming up can only = 🔥
The Xbox screen is useless get an IPad, download the Xbox app and start Remote Play.
@@Anonym-dx2tp the latency....
A normal portable screen > xscreen shit > ipad + 10^9 ms latency.
Gamecube had the same screen attachment 20 years ago lol
@@GlitterGuru PS1 had the same Screen attachment, 27 years ago hahaha, But it´s cool is coming back
Would be neat if it wasn't for the fact that any gaming laptop can do the same with an Xbox controller and a wireless dongle seeing as pc gets all the Xbox games.
As a backer of Xscreen and person who's interested in the Sony Airbuds, this was an awesome vid to see!
Gstory did it first xscreen is a rip off
Your videos are absolutely fantastic and I have so much fun with them. Every time I learning something new for technology. Continue with the good work, you are a inspiration.
It’s a good era in tech when Sony starts dropping weirdos like those buds. The Sony Mylo and the Vaio P were bizarre devices, but their designs were a ton of fun.
Just got a pair of link buds, one really cool feature is that if you have a touque on in the winter, tapping basically anywhere on the side of your hat will work. Very useful when it's cold af and you don't want to have to take off gloves or hat.
🤞🏻 appreciate everything you do for the tech community!
I genuinely think as someone with dyspraxia tapping the side of my head for controls will be a lot easier than hitting the earbuds as I find it very hard to actually tap a tiny earbud, with my coordination.
I usually rest my thumb and middle finger on my cheek, so it makes it easier to hit the earbud
@@Hyped_Panda oh really I'll try that out next time, thanks for the advice
Samsung galaxy buds 2 have this feature and it works insanely accurately.
What’s dyspraxia?
Just looked that up, and man or man, have I got a way to avoid the draft now
I’m in love with these Sony ear buds. Sony is killing it with its innovation. How often do we see big companies think out of the box. Kudos to Sony again
How often? All the freaking time. It’s what makes them grow 🧐
These earbuds are just the negative of open back in ears without the sound quality benefits. PLEASE just get an open back if you want this, the sound quality will be much better.
What does kudos mean?
@@oscarramos5681it's basically just a compliment
Love the work you guys are doing ❤️
Regarding the tap near the ear on the Link Budst, the Freebuds 3 and 4 from Huawei had this feature for years. It's great in my experience, better than touch controls.
Bro this brings back some nostalgia, I remember back when I had my PlayStation 1 with the screen flip up like this one. Granted, it's not the best screen by any means, but it was enough to just be able to see what's happening on the fly.
fun fact: the original playstation was called the PS1, but the one with the flip up screen was actually called the PS One, and they’re two distinct units
On the note of AirPods Pro amplifying the environment around you, they’ll also turn themselves down if noise around you gets too loud. I use mine around machinery with only one in and transparency on and if a machine makes a really loud noise it messes with me a bit because I won’t hear it in the ear with the airpod even though transparency is on.
Although this can initially sound like a good idea, then I strongly urge you to wear real ear protectives as your ears still can get damaged around loud noises with noise canceling.
@@tari0048 I do! We have them readily available where I’m at and I understand that AirPods definitely aren’t proper hearing protection
I notcied they do this when alarms go off near me.
@@tari0048 Yeah, I agree wear proper protection, but active noise cancellation was actually initially designed to protect airline pilots from hearing loss.
As always, a fantastic product review.
The LED cable is an excellent option. I'm going for broke.

Love my linkbuds! I work at a grocery store and we are only allowed to have one earbud in. Still like them a lot better than regular ones and I can hear everything around me that I need to. Best part is they don't fall out no matter how hard I try which is a must for me.
Nice! I'm seriously considering it.

@@girlsdrinkfeck Lucky lol we aren't suppose to have them at all but this one guy has gotten fired countless times and the union keeps bringing him back. He always has one in so the union and management agree on one earbud unless it gets out of hand for some reason again.
Just loved the pods and the cable too 😌 great initiative for the greater cause 👏

I seriously wanna try those Sony airbuds. I really do use earbuds on commute, at moderate volumes yet the lack of awareness on my environment while listening to music makes me miss stops and car horns lol

Thanks for the review....keep them coming.
The double tap the skin/ear to adjust volume is actually available on Samsung Buds too. It is under "labs" options. But you can only change volume (up or down, depending on the side), there is no option to map to other things.
The Xbox Xacreen thing is pretty cool. I had a similar attachment for my PS2 slim, and it would just attach to the back of the PS with 2 screws and it even had a car outlet. Pretty cool since I didn’t have a TV in my room. Could literally play anywhere I wanted.
I’ve been waiting to see you talk about these earbuds!
WOW! the earbuds with the audio controllers being "integrated" with the owners skull are very dope!!
It sure gives cyberpunk vibes being able to controll the device by tapping on your skull, as if it was an audio implant (but it is just an earbud that is able to sense the taps). Very cool!
The gaming tablet is also very cool, very pricey, but cool!
Just when I think tech is getting stale we get all this cool stuff. Link buds are a super cool concept, the asus tablet looks nuts. Heck even the cables are getting cool

I tested the linkbuds. While the concept is very cool, there's lots to be improved. There's nowhere near enough bass in it, and the volume wasn't loud enough for our openspace office with 20 people. Still happy to see something different.

Loved the design of Sony link buds🤙
So I've been watching these while wearing my Galaxy Buds 2. I thought that the gesture control of the Sony buds which is tapping near the outer ear was too weird so I tried to do it just to know how does that feel. To my surprise the volume of my Buds 2 was raised after tapping near my right ear just as shown by Marques in the video. It was probably just the sensor being too sensitive since the pause/play feature wasn't working but still a great discovery. 😂 Have Buds too? Go try it to see if it will work also. 😅
Actually it's an intentional feature though I thought you had to turn it on in the the labs section of the wearable app.
Does the Boston Dynamics Tee mean we'll see a video about robots soon 👀?
Interesting question
My Galaxy Buds+ have that tap on skin feature, I use it to increase volume, ridiculously useful! It's in the labs menu in the app, and it technically says tap the side of the earbud but works well if you tap on back of ear or temple bone.
Now this is the kinda video I love.
I don't really like the feeling of noise cancellation or sticking things in my ear canal so iv been thinking about getting the standard Airpods, but then the link buds came out and now I'm wondering which one to get haha
linkbuds don‘t have bass, so probably airpods are better
If you want to listen to music, don't buy the link buds..

@@ImJustPeter you can get better sound for $35, Soundpeats Air 3: Semi in-ear, ear detection, app, custom EQ, full touch controls, gaming mode, aptx adaptive, and pretty good mics (the linkbuds have better mics though, but the Soundpeats are not bad at all), they are really tiny and the case is even smaller than sony's.
I own them, and could give you my EQ settings, it makes them sound cleaner
@@Ricky_RSC Looking them up in Amazon, they are really cheap. I'll look up some reviews on them.
Those are the perfect earbuds I've been waiting my entire life without knowing it. Let me explain. First and foremost, these sound easily the best against any top tier earbuds I've tried. They always try to mimic the "open back" soundscape, but it's always just that. "Trying". The mids and highs are just incredible and organic. Most earbuds almost always has too much bass and the highs are at best harsh. The next point is the feel. I can almost forget I'm wearing these, even when I'm listening music at ambient levels. Feels like I'm in the music if that makes any sense? Like in the middle of concert or something. Incredible. Easily the greatest innovation in earbud design ever.
Nice tech! Really like you!
I really love the 'two-circle' design of the earbuds, they look so comfortable. I really hope they make a closed back ANC pair with the same design.
