The greatest part about this movie is the way they turn Dennis' menacing into a result of his energy and curiosity. Like he's not doing all this intentionally to be horrible but just being a boy who doesn't really think before he does something and is very curious, creative and oblivious. Perhaps it's due to the mix of his "brainy" dad and the "oblivious" blonde mom that created his personality. It makes you really like the character and have impact when Mr. Wilson yell's at him and he "runs away", instead of despising him like if he were just an intentionally chaotic demon child.

Me too bc we were in Hinsdale Illinois where they filmed it. My house is in the backround in the pkayground scene where Christopher lloyd takes the purse.
Fun fact: Dennis the Menace Strikes Again was actually Don Rickles' last live action movie. I say live action because he was in Toy Story 2 and 3 after Dennis the Menace Strikes Again.
How do you compare *Dennis the Menace* and *Once Were Warriors?* The former is a family comedy about the misadventures of a suburban American rapscallion; the latter is a heavy drama about poverty, alcoholism, and domestic abuse involving an urban Maori family in New Zealand.
After watching Minty’s review, my kids (3&6yr) loved so much, that we’re currently watching Dennis (the Menace) in the UK. Cheers Minty, keeping them quiet!
Bill Watterson was approached many times by various animation studios, he always turned them down because he was afraid they'd commercialize the cartoon. C&H is loosely based on his own childhood memories.
@@crakatoot5480 Not disputing that, but considering how the cartoons ruined Garfield, Dilbert, and others, I think Bill made the right choice. Even Berkeley Breathed tried making Bloom County into a cartoon, and quickly regretted it.
I at first was going to mention how the word "homely" means ugly, and that Minty unintentionally said that Goldsmith did an ugly score, but I decided to check Google to see if there were other meanings for the word. Sure enough, the British definition of the word "homely" is the equivalent to our (American) definition of the word "homey".

The fact that Christopher Lloyd went from doc brown one most likable characters in film history to switch blade Sam one of the most creepiest villains in a kids movie shows his versatility as an actor

This was like Home Alone in the summer time for me as a kid. Thanks Minty!!
fun fact when this movie was casting they had ads out in the paper for kid actors. my mom sent in a photo of me but we never heard back. this was in SE wisconsin
Should have had a live worm in your pocket
Me too bc we were in Hinsdale Illinois where they filmed it. My house is in the backround in the pkayground scene where Christopher lloyd takes the purse.
Lmfao I watched it before school too. I miss the early 90’s.
dunston checks in and babys day out were both lighthearted , cute, fun flicks for the family to enjoy
My younger self was a spitting image of the kid in this movie.....it was glorious.
I think this movie is my top 50 favorite movies of all time
Fun fact: Dennis the Menace Strikes Again was actually Don Rickles' last live action movie. I say live action because he was in Toy Story 2 and 3 after Dennis the Menace Strikes Again.
Id say it's a tie with Dirty Work
@@advancedhell42069 Yeah they both came out in 1998 but Dennis the Menace Strikes Again came out after Dirty Work.
@@JaredGriffiths2000 yup
Oh my god, little Minty!
I WAS Dennis the Menace. Thanks Minty for all the memories you bring to my many years as a child. SMILE...
I used to watch this movie on HBO growing up.
Home Body Odor
@@DW3010 actually it stands for home box office
One year after this Jake the Muss was much more menacing in “Once Were Warriors”
How do you compare *Dennis the Menace* and *Once Were Warriors?* The former is a family comedy about the misadventures of a suburban American rapscallion; the latter is a heavy drama about poverty, alcoholism, and domestic abuse involving an urban Maori family in New Zealand.
@@musicaltheatergeek79 Was just saying that minty needs to do an episode on 10 things you didn’t know about once were warriors
"She's up in my mom's bathroom using the armpit perfume. She says you're such a stud, she gets nervous and sweats a lot."
After watching Minty’s review, my kids (3&6yr) loved so much, that we’re currently watching Dennis (the Menace) in the UK. Cheers Minty, keeping them quiet!
Though it would prob suck, I’d LOVE to see a Calvin and Hobbes animated movie
Bill Watterson was approached many times by various animation studios, he always turned them down because he was afraid they'd commercialize the cartoon. C&H is loosely based on his own childhood memories.
@@DeWin157 well granted they would but think how many more people would be exposed to his work. I mean do kids even read the funnies anymore
@@crakatoot5480 Not disputing that, but considering how the cartoons ruined Garfield, Dilbert, and others, I think Bill made the right choice. Even Berkeley Breathed tried making Bloom County into a cartoon, and quickly regretted it.
@@DeWin157 Garfield and Friends and the animated specials that preceded it were the best thing to come out of that comic strip
Interesting. I didn't know that.
The cartoon was amazingly well animated for the time and still holds up today.
Man, love all the 80s and 90s movie videos you make, keep them coming!
Since you are praising Walter Matthau, how about you cover Grumpy old men??
You schmuck!
Do dracula 1931
4:41 Awww! So adorable, Minty! Glad you shared 👍🤟
As a 35 year old, I have to say, this is one of my favorite movies as a kid and as you said every once in a while my fiancé and I watch it...(I almost said pop the tape in lmao 😂 I guess I am getting old) even if it just for the nostalgia!! I’d love to see you do one one either Beethoven 2 or The Little Rascals (the 90’s one of course) or now that think about it...a GREAT ONE would be “Little Giants” (not sure if you know that movie though) as that’s one of my fiancé’s favorites, she LOVES that movie (as do I)
Sorry, Casper was so much better, but I loved Chris in this.

It was and it still is one of my favorite movies of all time. It reminds me of my childhood.
Greetings from Canada!! I grew up in the 80’s and 90’s so my introduction to Dennis the Menace was the newspaper comic strip … but I remember also watching and loving the cartoon
First one to see it!
Barely beat me!!!
*"MIIIIINTYYYY"*😎
This movie came out when I was 18 and I still loved it and I've since watched it with my kids who love it too, so glad you covered it on you channel, love your work
I watched this A LOT as an adult as I had a kid at the time who watched this A LOT. And I always loved it! I still do. I'd like to see it again. Maybe I'll go over my daughter's house and we'll put it on. :) There are so many good gags in it.

Awesome summary at the end. '88 baby here, and I grew up on this. The kid with the apple scene? Nightmare fuel back in those days!
Good memories. My mom and I first watched this at my late Great Aunt Becky's house. I liked it so much, I got my own copy and watched it many times. I still watch it now and then.
Also, Mason Gamble got cute in his adulthood. 😊
Minty, thank you for doing this episode this is a great family movie and should not go unrecognized. My brother and I still quote the part tastes like paint and wood and we were born in the 70s it's a great movie.
We have the saying "en ordentlig brand skid!" in danish that translates directly into a "a decent fire fart!" which I'd say THAT really is!! - love that scene, love that movie, seriously good laughs innit! Cheers for the trip down memory lane!
At 36 I bawl like a baby when he embraces Mr Wilson at the end...🤣
I remember when I was a kid and saw this movie, I didn’t even recognize the bad guy was played by Christopher Lloyd. I also remember watching the Dennis The Menace cartoon too. I still quote the line of “Tastes like paint… and wood” and many of the other lines in the movie.
Great job minty, awsome call back to the magical 90's
It was my first movie with real actors, which I watched in cinema. Still, it is one of my favorites! Greetings from Thessaloniki, Greece 🇬🇷
Loved this movie as a kid still enjoyed thus after a recent rewatch. I was a lot like Dennis growing up.
The fact that Christopher Lloyd went from doc brown one most likable characters in film history to switch blade Sam one of the most creepiest villains in a kids movie shows his versatility as an actor
I grew up with the British Dennis and I remember an issue of the beano where they save Christmas and Walter (the softy) tries to ruin Christmas
I love this movie and it's a favorite of my family. We watch it every year around Christmas.
Such a spitting image/character of my little brother when we were kids. He was an absolute menace. *RIP, kiddo. ilu.*
..he didn't smear dookie, though, tg.
I remember watching the trailer of Dennis the Menace in the cinema way back in 1993.
