I was on the special makeup crew for the designer, Dave Miller & applied "Connie" Michel Burke's makeup as well as several other prosthetic effects for the film. We had a bullpen of the best makeup artists in Hollywood, sometimes numbering up to 30 makeup artists & 20 hair stylists. The cones were very light foam latex & were hollow with a lightweight plastic cone inside that helped contain the actor's hair. FYI, the home movie of young Connie on the beach with her parents was actually portrayed by Dan Ackroyd's young daughter, Daniele. She actually sat for the Conehead makeup to be applied although I had to work very quickly & keep her occupied with stories. Contrary to what was reported, Jane was a great sport in the makeup chair & nothing was ever "ripped off" during removal. only silicone medical adhesive was used & no "Spirit Gum". Jane did however dislike the removal of the "peach fuzz" on her cheeks every application with the best part of the process were nice warm towels after removal. Jane's makeup was applied by Zoltan Elek & Dave Miller applied Dan's makeup. It was a great film to work on with lots of laughs behind the camera.

Men in tights and coneheads in the same week!! Minty is killing it. Watched cone heads 2 days ago(not first time). Very underated movie. It has a lot of depth for a comedy. Thanks for your entertainment in these crappy times.
I think one of the main reasons it wasn't as well received as it should've been was because it was literally following Wayne's World and Blues Brothers, where both those movies were so bat shit insane that they had an edge to them that appealed to a lot of young adults and teens at the time of each of their respective releases. "Coneheads" humor by comparison is a lot more tame given the premise of it, so it was never going to live up to those films. However, I still think it's a good comedy in it's own right, and it's a shame the animated series never took off like Minty was saying, as I can definitely see a lot of story possibilities with Coneheads having their own TV show.
Two things you might not have known: Lorne Michaels is the co-creator of SNL along with Dick Ebersol (who took over producing the show from Michaels in 1980 through 1985), so saying he “worked” there isn’t quite giving him enough credit. Michael McKean also happened to be an SNL cast member in the 94-95 season I enjoyed this one, mate.
I’ve loved this movie for as long as I can remember. Now my four year old nephew loves it. As soon as he comes over that’s the movie that he picks to watch first 🥰
I understand that Dan Aykroyd got pulled over by police on his motorcycle leaving the set of the movie. He still has a cone on his head. So, after that, he had a specially crafted helmet constructed for him to wear. And I think the helmet actually made it into the finished movie.
Also, whatever movie sides means, Dan Akroyd did not wear the prosthetic skull off set.. that doesn’t even make any sense. Why would the create him a special helmet when all he has to do was take the prosthetic skull (which belongs to the studio) off? Makes no sense at all
Of course, these are based on real ETs called “The teros” from the andromeda galaxy, they put the truth right in front of us lol and put it off as fiction

At the rap party for season 2 each department gave the two main stars wrap gifts...stuff like local sports jerseys with there names on them and such. I found the coneheads action figures in a local comic shops bargain bin so I bought all variants of the Connie figure for Michelle's wrap gifts from our department...she had no idea she was an action figure and laughed hysterically! Great lady.
