I'm very put off by the prices these days and brands won't be stopping increases anytime soon because there will always be people who will buy at any price point, nothing wrong about that but for me I've changed how I see beauty and the price i'am willing to pay. Great topic to discuss. Hope you have a wonderful week ahead.
What I miss is that my older products last way past their expiration date while these "better" and clean products have gone off on me prior to the even the shelf life. That is irritating.
I’ve had the same experience with some so-called “clean” color products that start drying out, separating, changing their color, smelling off, etc. before the shelf life.
@@karenalexander8249 True, which leads to consumers paying more for products that don’t last nearly as long. In general, products that are disposable are usually priced lower than products that are more durable. That hasn’t been the case in the cosmetic industry-the durability has been reduced, but the price has risen disproportionate to the cost of living. It’s that discrepancy that many consumers find troubling.
Thank you for your content! I miss diorifics, I agree with you, and thank you for speaking on inflated prices so comprehensively. Would also appreciate your opinions on other related industries (fragrance, clothing, etc.)
Quite a interesting look back in a nostalgia type reflection in our beauty arsenal. Once a penny for your thoughts on a lavish approach to luxury beauty is now more like a 💯💸 if you even dare mention designer inspired beauty.
I have one of the By Terry denseless blushes & it is a beautiful formula. Also have a couple of their 2 tone blush/bronzer duo powders that are now discontinued & also a beautiful soft & silky formula.
I agree about the base , I feel they have improved their formulas. Eye shadows ? I don’t agree. Maybe some I haven’t tried. I think companies are charging so much. Even ones who were makeup artist or even influencers. It blows my mind the prices. I’m like. It’s makeup ! 😂😂😂
So true Jennifer looking beautiful 😍 my friend we are having cold 🥶 fronts early morning 🌄 and late night 🌙 here in Vegas but sunny 🌞 and be warmer 😀 today 60's -70's .... ❤ have a great day 😊
I feel like the quality of some of the up and coming (and less expensive) brands is so good. They will start to take away sales from luxury brands. For example, the Patrick Ta foundation is amazing. I find myself reaching for it more than my more expensive ones.
I just bought the Tom Ford lip liner on your recommendation,…the shade Private Client is incredible! A stunning red. Was looking for a good red lip liner that lasts - and I smudged it across my lips to act like a base lipstick, it’s perfection. Also got the new limited Gucci blush shade in Ruby…not only is it gorgeous but looks great with the Tom Ford lip liner in Private Client. What I love about this blush colour is it’s a cool red, so that when you layer it with your bronzer it actually looks red, like rosy cheeks! not warm/orange like most red blushes on top of bronzer
I hope you love it! It’s a nice option to wear with a cool-toned makeup look. And I think it fits right in with colder weather now. It’s quite pigmented, so just use a tiny dab!
Your look is especially beautiful for this video! Great topic! I'm totally down with actually trying to use up my hoard of older eyeshadow palettes and blush. At this point in those categories brands need to wow me to get to buy their products.
The directions I don't like are "no more talc," overboard dimethicone/silicones, and actives *skincare ingredients in makeup. The talc ban is wayyy overboard, most luxury brands can find test-ed talc, people got overly hysterical. I miss body talc even more, but Yardley still around. My older makeup with talc is superior. Dimethicones are an option for people with normal to dry skin who want blurring. But on oily skins, the makeup looks shiny, texture is emphasized, it settles into pores and quickly breaks up. Why does every makeup product have these ingredients? Actives in makeup. We are going to see more people with damaged skin, who are wearing too many actives. Makeup often doesn"t even disclose the actives until the fine print. So much makeup with niacinamide and Vit C, these are fine in skincare, but unnecessary in makeup and degrades the cosmetic faster.
The Dioriffic lipsticks were beautiful. I wonder if Lisa Eldridge took some inspiration from them for her new lippies? The TF She Wolf eyeshadow is beautiful on you!
You always look so beautiful! Great video. I completely agree with you. Formulas are better for the most part. But not all (Chanel powder blush, Prism Libre Powder to name two) Packaging and expirations dates....not so good. I see a lot of repeat colors and less creativity, especially in holiday merchandise. And high prices. Remember the 2018 Chantecaille 20th Anniversary Moonlit Perle Glow compact? Stunning and weighty. Pearls felt like glass pearls. Very impressive. A few year later they came out with a small Pearl topped collection including a perle lumiere highlighter (a repeated pinkish highlighter from a former needlepoint special edition a year or two before that), eyeshadow and blush. The packaging was much cheaper and lighter and pearls felt plastic.
So funny! I hear what you’re saying about the old products 😀I have a VERY old highlighter from Chanel - first highlighter I ever owned and I used it today! As eyeshadow 😬tell no one……
I did do some price comparisons over the last months and if you're taking into account amounts too which we should I saw somewhere around 25-30% price increases for make up since 2020 everywhere... Drugstore to luxury . I notice quality differences across quite a number of brands not just luxury. I kept a lot of older powder make up. Older products continue to perform to a high standard well past the expiration dates whereas new products don't last as long even when they're not clean. And yes I often see more luxurious feeling packaging and perhaps just more thoughtful presentation and that goes for high end and prestige brands too. Which would make a lot of sense with brands having to do less releases in the past. I'm not saying there isn't some innovation but much is also just cyclical and past formulations are coming back around
One of the best eyeshadows of old is Burberry. My quads are quite old, but they outperform all my new ones. I have not seen their cosmetics for sale for a long time. I don’t know what happened to them.
I think the formulae were better with talc. It’s easy enough to use improved mining and quality checks and eliminate the asbestos threat in talc. I also think things don’t last as long. I don’t buy as much luxury products as I used to. I feel cheated when I pay so much more without the same longevity and quality.
One thing we also need to consider is, a lot less people could pay 60$ for a TF product 10 years ago.... I think even at 90$, nowadays many more can actually pay the price.
While I can’t disagree, I believe it has to do more with people justifying beauty purchases…even when they really can’t afford it. Beauty UA-cam channels, Instagram, etc. has had a HUGE impact on the industry as well as people’s purchasing decisions. Whether people can truly ‘afford’ the products or not.
@@Jennifer-uc2oh 100%! They’re either putting it on credit cards and making small payments or using “buy now pay later” that didn’t used to exist. People think they need it and these are “necessary expenses”… I’ve seen compilations of TikTok videos here on UA-cam where people complain about cost of living and not being able to pay their bills, meanwhile they have lip filler, Botox, professionally done fake nails, laminated eyebrows, and full on glam makeup to go to the Starbucks drive-thru. Couldn’t see their clothes in these videos but this is stuff that was never addressed in their complaints about the economy. People are making horrible financial choices and then don’t understand why they can never make enough money.
@@Jennifer-uc2oh sure thing. That's why I said "pay the price". Being able to afford is a different convo altogether. "Pay the price" has a total different meaning than "afford" to me.
A lot of "innovations" in skincare and make up are truly copies of KBeauty that came out new before prices exploded after 2020 so to me I know they are not just worth more or more expensive. And you can still get them for less from other brands. This is about greed not value
IMO the makeup qualities have not changed and I have found "eco" brands do not last because the "eco" brands contain fewer chemicals to make them last.
Yes older makeup esp mascara was better. Shadows were better. Powders were better. Everything is awful and I'm tired of the horrid colors red shadows. I stopped buying. Lipsticks all brown. I want the old chanel colors. Coco pink, Pink flame. Stopped buying. It's repetitious and drug store quality. I put on the new Chanel lipsticks and they bleed all over like a $5 product. Disgusted with quality. Their shadows are terrible now. I don' t like the new YSL lipsticks they bleed. I don't like their new shadow formula. Awful and expensive.

Clean beauty does not have the preservatives in them so won’t last as long.

There was no expiration date 😊
I'm suspecting that it's the use of natural oils that go rancid whereas mineral oil based products last forever.
Wow your makeup is absolutely flawless and the green headband if perfection 💚💚
